Chapter 14 – Capítulo 14

Some days later, Jesus was in another place with about sixty disciples, one of whom said to Him, “There is Joshua the Faster, who claims to be the Chosen One of God, and Joseph, who proclaims deliverance by the sword, while many say the Enlightener and Deliverer are two men. The gale of words makes it difficult to get a bearing on the harbor entrance.”

Algunos días más tarde, estaba Jesús en otro lugar con sesenta discípulos, y uno de ellos le dijo, “Hay un Joshua el Rápido, que proclama ser el Elegido de Dios, y Joseph, que promete libertad por la espada, mientras muchos dicen que el Iluminado y el Libertador son dos hombres”. El vendaval de las palabras hace difícil elegir la entrada que te lleve a puerto”

Jesus said, “Things are changing, and many alive today will live to see a different world. I come to set men free by removing the shackles of ignorance and to deliver them from evil and from themselves.”

Jesús dijo, “Las cosas están cambiando y muchos de los que están vivos hoy vivirán para ver un mundo diferente. Yo vengo a hacer libres a los hombres de las trabas de la ignorancia y liberarlo del mal y de ellos mismos”

Hearing this, many of the disciples left, and Jesus said to those who remained beside Him, “Do you also wish to go your way?”

Oyendo esto, muchos de los discípulos marcharon y Jesús dijo a los que permanecían junto a Él, “Queréis también seguir vuestro camino”?

Peter answered for all, “Sire, Your teachings excel those of others, for they carry the hope of eternal life. We believe You to be the Chosen Messenger of God who speaks with His voice. We accept what You say because it responds to the yearnings of our hearts.”

Pedro contestó por todos, “Señor, tus enseñanzas superan de de los otros, porque transportan a la esperanza de una vida eterna. Nosotros creemos que Tú eres el Mensajero Elegido por Dios que habla con Su voz. Aceptamos lo que Tú dices porque responde al anhelo de nuestros corazones”

Jesus said, “We all make mistakes, and though I have chosen unwisely with others, I have not been mistaken with you.”

Jesús dijo, “Todos nos equivocamos y aunque Yo he elegido equivocadamente a los otros, no Me he equivocado con vosotros”

Jesus did not proclaim Himself to the people according to their understanding and devoted much time to the teaching of disciples. This concerned mainly the coming Rule of God, but to the twelve He taught many hidden things, for there was knowledge suitable only for a few.

Jesús no se revelaba a Sí mismo al pueblo debido a su entendimiento y dedicaba mucho tiempo a la enseñanza de los discípulos. Esto era en su mayoría en lo concerniente a la llegada del Mandato de Dios, pero a los doce Él les enseñó muchas cosas secretas, porque éste era un conocimiento accesible sólo a unos pocos.

He said to them, “You are among those entitled to know secrets concerning the Rule of God, but to those who are not numbered among the elect, everything should be explained simply and in parables. It is truly written in the Sacred Books, ‘They may see with the eyes and be deceived, and hear without understanding, but if they would only turn to God, their ignorance would be wiped away.’”

Él les dijo, “Estáis entre los elegidos para conocer los secretos concernientes al Mandato de Dios, pero a los que no están entre los elegidos, hay que explicarles todo de forma simple y en parábolas. Así está escrito en verdad en los Libros Sagrados, “Ellos pueden ver con los ojos y ser engañados, y oír sin comprender, pero si simplemente se vuelven hacia Dios, su ignorancia se disipará”

Then Jesus appointed the twelve as envoys to go out among the people and proclaim the things He had said. The twelve were: Simon, renamed Peter; James and John, sons of the Tempest; Andrew Saronides; Philip Bardrush; Bartholomew the Stranger; Matthew the Levite; Thomas, son of Jonas; Thaddeus, called Lebios before he came; James, son of Alfeous; Judas of Iscaroth; and Simon of Cana, the zealot.

Entonces Jesús eligió a doce como encargados de ir entre el pueblo y proclamar las cosas que Él había dicho. Los doce eran: Simón, renombrado Pedro; James y John, hijos de Tempest; Andrés Saronides; Philip Bardrush; Bartolomé el extranjero; Matías el Levita; Tomás, hijo de Jonás; Tadeo, llamado Lebios antes de llegar; James, hijo de Alfeous; Judas Iscariote; y Simón de Caná, el zelote.

Jesus sent them out with these instructions: “Avoid Samaritan towns. Keep away from places where the people are being stirred up for strife, but go to the Jews wherever they are to be found. When entering a dwelling, give the greeting, ‘Peace be on this house.’

Jesús les envió con estas instrucciones: “Evitad las ciudades de Samaria. Apartaos de los lugares en los que el pueblo está siendo alborotado por contiendas, pero id hacia los Judíos dónde quiera que se encuentren. Cuando entréis en un edificio, saludad diciendo, ‘La paz sea en esta casa’

“I know that you are being sent like sheep delivered to the wolves, for you do not bear the message expected by the people. So be careful, always alert, cunning as serpents and harmless as doves. Beware of those who would bring you before their courts, and do not concern yourselves about what to say, for when it becomes necessary, you will receive inspiration from the Holy Spirit, and words will come.

“Yo sé que estáis siendo enviados como ovejas sueltas entre lobos, porque no lleváis el mensaje esperado por el pueblo. Así que cuidaos, siempre atentos, astutos como serpientes e inocentes como palomas. Precaveos de los que os lleven ante sus tribunales, y no os preocupéis de lo que vais a decir, porque cuando sea necesario, recibiréis inspiración del Espíritu Santo, y las palabras llegarán.

“I can assure you of this: Whoever stands by Me, upholding My cause before men, him I will stand beside before the Council of Heaven. Give no heed to what is said about Me - it is already forgiven. But slander against the powers of the Holy Spirit, which is the Hand of God, is unforgivable.”

“Yo os aseguro esto: “A cualquiera que permanezca conmigo, defendiendo Mi causa ante los hombres, yo permaneceré junto a él ante el Tribunal de los Cielos. No prestéis atención a lo que se dice de Mí – eso debe olvidarse. Pero la calumnia contra los poderes del Espíritu Santo, que está en manos de Dios, es inolvidable”

One of the twelve said, “We will meet other teachers, whose words will not be the same as those spoken by You.”

Uno de los doce dijo, “Encontraremos otros maestros, cuyas palabras no serán las mismas que las dichas por Ti”.

Jesus said, “This will certainly be so, for to each man his own road and his own light; but Truth is Truth whoever proclaims it, and must be obeyed. However, Truth is something rarely seen clearly, and even many who see it have difficulty in describing it to others. Speak about the good and evil which are manifest in the lives of men, and tell them each shall be judged according to his works.”

Jesús dijo, “ Ciertamente así será, porque a cada hombre su propio camino y su propia luz; pero la Verdad es la Verdad donde quiera que se la diga, y debe ser obedecida. Sin embargo, la Verdad es algo que raramente se ve con claridad, e incluso muchos que la ven tienen dificultades para describírsela a otros. Hablad sobre la bondad y la maldad que se manifiestan en la vida de los hombres, y decidles que cada uno será juzgado de acuerdo con sus obras”

Jesus said, “Men will always go astray, but those who lead them astray cannot shun responsibility. Remember what I have said about those who stand behind the wrongdoings and foolishness of others, hidden from sight and untouchable by men. It would be better for them to have a millstone hung about their necks and be thrown into the sea than to suffer what they will for leading innocents astray.

Jesús dijo, “Los hombres con frecuencia estarán descarriados, pero los que les hacen descarriar no pueden escapar de la responsabilidad. Recordad lo que he dicho acerca de los que permanecen detrás de los malhechores y la locura de otros, escondidos de la vista e intocables para los hombres. Sería mejor para ellos colgarse una gran piedra alrededor de su cuello y arrojarse al mar que sufrir lo que ellos sufrirán por llevar al engaño a inocentes.

“Be on guard against undutiful inclinations, and work in harmony one with another. If your companion offends you, rebuke him without anger; and if he indicates regret, forgive him wholeheartedly. Even though he offend you many times, and is contrite, forgive him.”

“Estad en guardia contra las inclinaciones irrespetuosas y trabajad en armonía uno con otro. Si vuestro compañero os ofende, reñidle sin ira; y si él da indicios de sentirlo, olvídalo de todo corazón. Incluso aunque te ofenda muchas veces, y se arrepiente, olvídalo.”

Some of the twelve said, “These things are difficult to understand, and we have the natural failings of men. Give us courage, and strengthen us in the cause.”

Jesus replied, “Have faith in what you do, for with faith you could move mountains or cause uprooted trees to replant themselves. All things are possible to those who believe them possible.”

Alguno de los doce dijo, “Estas cosas son difíciles de comprender, y nosotros tenemos la naturaleza defectuosa de los hombres. Danos coraje, y fortalécenos en la causa”

Jesús contestó, “Ten fe en lo que haces, Porque con fe tú podrás mover montañas y hacer que los árboles caídos se vuelvan a plantar ellos mismos. Todas las cosas son posibles para los que las creen posibles”

Nevertheless, He strengthened them by a transfer of Holy Spirit so they had the power of healing.

A pesar de todo, Él les fortaleció transfiriéndoles el Espíritu Santo y así ellos tenían el poder de sanar.

Jesus said, “Those who do not build with Me are destroyers of My works, and those who pay lip service only are useless tools. Never judge any man by the words of his mouth, and keep away from those who pour them out in a torrent. Have no dealings with those who do their good deeds in public, and shun those who push themselves forward for attention. A man whose problems are small will readily come to be eased of his burden, while he who carries a heavy load is often inconspicuous.

Jesús dijo, “Los que no construyen conmigo son destructores de Mis obras, y los que me sirven sólo con la boca sólo son instrumentos inservibles. Nunca juzguéis a un hombre por las palabras de su boca, y apartaos de los que las dicen como un torrente. No tengáis tratos con los que hacen sus buenas obras en público, y evitad a los que se alaban a sí mismo para atraer la atención. Un hombre cuyos problemas son pequeños llegará preparado para ser aliviado de sus cargas, mientras que el que lleva un peso fuerte es a menudo modesto.

“What you do pays no earthly reward; though the reward elsewhere may be great, it is useless claiming one here. If one of you had a man out plowing, would you say to him on his return, ‘Come, sit down and rest’? Is it not more likely you would say, ‘Go and clean yourself. Get my meal ready. And after you have finished, go and eat yourself. Then go to rest’? Is any employer grateful because those who work for him do the things for which he pays them? So it should be with you. Having carried out your orders and done your duty, you should simply say, ‘We have only done the things we were supposed to do.’

“Lo que hacéis no será recompensado en la tierra; aunque la recompensa en otra parte puede ser grande, es inútil que alguien la reclame aquí. Si alguno de vosotros tiene a un hombre arando, acaso le dice a su vuelta, ‘Ven, siéntate y descansa’? No es más amable que le digáis, “Vé y lávate. Coge mi comida dispuesta. Y después de que acabes, vé a comer tú mismo, y después vé a descansar’? Algún patrón está agradecido porque los que trabajan para él hagan estas cosas para que él les pague? Lo mismo ocurrirá con vosotros. Habiendo cumplido vuestras órdenes y hecho vuestro deber, vosotros diréis simplemente, ‘Hemos hecho sólo las cosas que se suponía que teníamos que hacer”

“Many will seek to snare you in a net of words, but avoid the meshes spun by their wiles. Never talk about anything not thoroughly and honestly believed. The blind cannot lead the blind, and if they do, fall into a ditch. No man can walk confidently in darkness without a light. The eye is the lamp of the body; and if the lamp is defective, the whole body is in gloom. The Holy Spirit is the lamp of the soul, but if it remains unlit, it serves no purpose.

“Muchos intentarán engañaros con trampas de palabras, pero evitar las vueltas engañosas de sus ardides. Nunca habléis acerca de nada que no sea creído  pensada y honestamente. El ciego no puede guiar a un ciego, y si hacen esto, caen en una zanja. Ningún hombre camina confiadamente sin una luz. Los ojos son los ojos del cuerpo; y si la lámpara es defectuosa, todo el cuerpo acaba en el polvo. El Espíritu Santo es la lámpara del alma, pero si permanece apagada, no sirve a su propósito.

“Many will mock and scorn you, saying, ‘Fools, we have full stomachs and soft beds; we have everything for our comfort and needs. What have you?’ There is little to be said in reply, for wise men do not mock, knowing that gems of wisdom often fall from the lips of fools. Take no heed of these, for they suffer from a spiritual defect - an ailment blinding them to their own deficiencies while exaggerating the failings of others.

“Muchos se mofarán y harán burla de vosotros, diciendo, ‘Locos, nosotros tenemos los estómagos llenos y camas blandas; tenemos todo para el confort y las necesidades. Qué tenéis vosotros?’. Hay poco que decir y replicar a esto, porque los hombres sabios no se burlan, sabiendo que las gemas de la sabiduría a menudo caen de los labios de los locos. No hagáis caso de éstos, porque ellos sufren de un defecto espiritual – una dolencia les ciega a sus propias deficiencias mientras exageran las faltas de otros.

“Do not offer bright jewels to dogs nor place a string of pearls around the necks of swine, or they will be trampled into the ground. The beasts will turn and rend you for not providing bones or husks.”

“No os rebajéis a llevar joyas para el perro ni coloquéis un collar de perlas alrededor de la garganta de un cerdo, o serán pisados en el lodo. Las bestias se volverán y os atacarán por no llevarles huesos o cáscaras”

Philip said to Jesus, “Sire, You caution us against anger, yet were You not angry when a man beat his ass with a rod?”

Felipe le dijo a Jesús, “Señor, Tú nos adviertes contra la ira, Acaso Tú no te enfadas cuando un hombre castiga a su burro con un látigo?”

Jesus said, “I warn you against anger among brothers, or anger relating to yourself. There is a righteous anger which is justified. In all things there are balances and limitations, and to know these you have the Books of Wisdom. If a man comes against you, threatening harm, he is more dangerous if he is calm and silent than if he is unsteady with anger. The silent biting dog is more to be feared than the barking one. Therefore, is it not in your own interests that I teach you self-control?”

Jesús dijo, “Yo os prevengo de la ira entre hermanos, o con respecto a vosotros mismos. Hay un enfado noble que está justificado. En todas las cosas hay grados y limitaciones, y para saberlo tenéis los Libros de Sabiduría. Si un hombre llega contra vosotros, portando un arma, es más peligroso si está en calma y en silencio que si está nervioso con rabia. El perro silencioso que muerde es más peligroso que el que ladra. Por lo tanto, no es en vuestro propio interés que yo os enseñe auto-control”?

Then Judas asked concerning the coming Rule of God, and Jesus answered, “It is like this: A man scatters seed on the ground. Day follows day until the grain sprouts and grows. But what goes on in the ground to bring this about is beyond his knowledge. The soil produces the crop by its own methods, nourishing the crop until it ripens. When the corn is ripe at harvesting time, the man reaps and gathers in.”

Entonces Judas preguntó acerca de la llegada del Mandato de Dios, y Jesús contestó, “Es algo así: Un sembrador siembra en la tierra. Los días se suceden hasta que el grano prende y crece. Pero lo que ocurre en la tierra para producirlo está más allá de su conocimiento. El suelo produce el maíz por sus propios métodos, nutriendo el maíz hasta que madura. Cuando el maíz está maduro en el tiempo de la cosecha, el hombre lo siega y lo almacena”.

Jesus then said, “To know the nature of the Rule of God is important but difficult for Me to explain to your understanding. It is like the small seed which, once planted, shoots up into a great plant, providing shade for many forms of life. These are able to see and know both the seed and the plant but have no knowledge how one became the other.

Jesús dijo entonces, “Conocer la naturaleza del Mandato de Dios es importante pero difícil para Mí explicárselo a vuestro entendimiento, Es como la pequeña semilla que, una vez plantada, se convierte en una gran planta, proveyendo una porción de muchas formas de vida. Es posible ver y conocer ambas, la semilla y la planta, pero no hay conocimiento de cómo una se convierte en la otra

“Know that, though I am here with you, I am not apart from He Who inspires Me. That which is in Me is not separate from the Spirit of the Father, and that Spirit is wholly in Me. I express the likeness of the Father and contain His power and substance to the full measure. I am the Spirit outflowing from God, given voice and form. I am the Voice and Word of that Spirit. I am of that Spirit but not that Spirit.

“Sabed que, aunque yo estoy aquí con vosotros, no estoy separado de Aquel que me inspira. Lo que está en Mí no está separado del Espíritu del Padre, y que este Espíritu está entero en Mí. Yo expreso la igualdad del Padre y contengo Su poder y sustancia en su plena medida. Yo soy el Espíritu que fluye de Dios, hecho voz y forma. Yo soy la Voz y la Palabra de este Espíritu. Yo soy de ese Espíritu pero no ese Espíritu.

“I am the fulfillment of men’s hopes and the fulfillment of the Father’s wish. As I am, so is the Spirit. As I am, so shall all His children be, for I am the pattern for all men. I am emptied of worldliness in order to hold the Holy Spirit. And I am an answer to the Father’s creative Word.

“Yo soy el cumplimiento de la esperanza de los hombres y el cumplimiento del deseo del Padre. Como yo soy, así es el Espíritu. Como yo soy, así serán todos sus hijos, porque Yo soy un patrón de todos los hombres. Yo estoy vacío de mundanidad con la intención de traer al Espíritu Santo. Y Yo soy una respuesta a la Palabra creativa del Padre.

“A pitcher half filled with water would hold less oil than an empty one. If wine is poured into a jar containing water, the wine is diluted. So when men say, ‘What purpose does it serve to forgo worldly pleasures?’ tell these things to them. If they will not listen, then on their own heads be the illnesses and pains from which they will surely suffer.”

“Un cántaro medio lleno de agua tendrá menos aceite que uno vacío. Si el vino se echa en una jarra que contiene agua, el vino se diluye. Así que cuando los hombres dicen, ‘Qué propósito tiene el privarse de los placeres mundanos’ dicen esas cosas para ellos. Si ellos no escuchan, entonces en sus propias cabezas está la enfermedad y las penas de las que ellos seguramente sufrirán”.

The twelve said, “Great is the hope You have given us, and great is the inspiration of Your words.”

Los doce dijeron, “Grande es la esperanza que Tú nos has dado, y grande es la inspiración de Tus palabras”

Jesus said, “I do not do this of Myself, for I have been filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, which is part of God. With this He created all things. I come that I may bring light to those who dwell in darkness, to bring to those who are on the brink of death a knowledge of life, and to bring consolation to those who suffer.

“I am the Hope of those who despair, the Helper of those who have no guide, the Treasure of the poor, and the Healer of the sick. I am the Light of Eternal Life for all who die. And as I am, so must you be.

Jesús dijo, “ Yo no hago esto por Mí mismo, porque he sido completado con el poder del Espíritu Santo, que es parte de Dios. Con éste Él ha creado todas las cosas. Sucede que yo puedo traer la luz a los que viven en la oscuridad, a dar a los que están en las puertas de la muerte un conocimiento de vida y dar consuelo a los que sufren.

“Yo soy las Esperanza de los que desesperan, el Asistente de los que no tienen guía, el Tesoro de los pobres, y el Sanador de los enfermos. Yo soy las Luz de la Vida Eterna para los que mueren. Y como Yo soy, así debéis ser vosotros.

“Go, carry the good tidings without trepidation or fear, without respect for persons, calling all who listen to follow a path which is direct, narrow and stern. Call them, whatever their circumstances, for each one will have something to contribute.”

“Id, llevad la buena nueva sin temblores de miedo, sin asustarse por las personas, llamando a todos los que escuchan a seguir un camino que es directo, estrecho y austero. Llamadles, cualquiera que sean sus circunstancias, porque cada uno tendrá algo con que contribuir”.

Then John said, “Sire, You have taught us many things and armed our wits. You have taught us how to act towards those who believe in Your cause and those who do not. Yet even among those who most conscientiously follow Your way, even among those who should be brothers, is found jealousy, pettiness, envy and selfishness.”

Entonces John dijo, “Señor, Tú nos has enseñado muchas cosas y armado nuestra inteligencia. Tú nos has enseñado cómo actuar hacia los que creen en Tu causa y los que no lo hacen. Pero incluso entre los que siguen más concienzudamente Tu camino, incluso entre los que deberían ser hermanos, hay celos, insignificancias, envidia y arrogancia”.

Jesus said, “These things are the challenge of life, and inseparable from the present rule of man. The test is your ability to change them. The corn will be gathered into the storehouse of the spirit, and the chaff cast into the fires of transmutation.”

Jesús dijo, “ Esas cosas son el desafío de la vida, e inseparables de la presente norma del hombre. La prueba es vuestra habilidad para cambiarles. El maíz será guardado en el almacén del espíritu, y los deshechos puestos en el fuego de la transmutación”

Jesus taught these things to the twelve in a manner different from His other teachings. There were many other things which may be told, but not all were heard with understanding.

Jesús enseñaba estas cosas a los doce de forma diferente de Sus otras enseñanzas. Había muchas otras cosas que podían ser dichas, pero no todas oídas sin conocimiento.

Peter said, “Let us partake of Your strength, so we can withstand whatever is sent to test us.” Jesus said, “When the test comes, it is never as expected.”

He also said, “The man who says, ‘I may be wrong,’ is always right; the man who says, ‘I am certainly right,’ is always wrong. To avoid a fight is not cowardice, and to fight with the assurance of victory is not courage. Weak men often fight, and strong men often run; motive is all that matters. To judge anyone by their actions is to judge unfairly.”

Pedro dijo, “Danos parte de tu fortaleza, para que podamos resistir cualquier cosa que se mande a probarnos”.

Jesús dijo, “Cuando la prueba viene, no es nunca según se espera”

Él dijo también, El hombre que dice, ‘yo puedo estar equivocado” casi siempre tiene razón; el hombre que dice, ‘Yo estoy con seguridad en lo cierto’ está casi siempre equivocado. Evitar una pelea no es cobardía, y pelear con la seguridad de la victoria no es coraje. Los hombres débiles pelean a menudo, y los hombres fuertes algunas veces corren; la razón son muchas razones. Juzgar a cualquiera por sus acciones es juzgar injustamente”

Then, while they were gathered about Him, Jesus said, “Now, Who do you think I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are surely God’s Anointed.”

Entonces, mientras estaban reunidos a su alrededor, Jesús dijo, “Bien, Quién creéis que soy?” Simón Pedro contestó, “Tú con seguridad eres en Enviado de Dios”

Jesus said, “You are rather rash but, as no mortal disclosure was made to you, fortunate also. Since your name means a rock, and you live up to it, I will establish foundations for the city of My cause upon you. And neither death nor evil shall overthrow it. To you I give the keys of this city, and the kingdom to which it is the gateway shall welcome you as a prince.

Jesús dijo, “Tú eres bastante temerario pero, como la revelación no mortal te ha sido hecha, también afortunado. Desde ahora tu nombre significa roca, y lo cumples. Yo estableceré los firmamentos de la ciudad de Mi causa sobre ti. Y ni la muerte ni el pecado la derribarán. A ti te doy las llaves de esta ciudad, el reino en el que está la puerta te recibirá como a un príncipe.

“In as much as I am the Way, the Truth and the Light, I bring you salvation from ignorance. I am the Savior of all who wander in darkness, but who, seeing My light, follow My lead.”

“En tanto como Yo soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Luz, te traigo la salvación de tu ignorancia. Yo soy el Salvador de todos los que deambulan en la oscuridad, pero que, viento Mi luz, sigue mi mandato”

One of the twelve said, “Sire, You are truly our Salvation, our Hope and our Life.”

Uno de los doce dijo, “Señor, Tú eres en verdad nuestra Salvación, nuestra Esperanza y nuestra Vida.”

Jesus said, “Many will flock to My cause, but few will be chosen to serve; many will follow My way, but turn aside at the obstacles. For if any man believe but fail to put his belief into practice, it will be profitless to him. If anyone take one part of My teachings, shunning the sterner and more inconvenient, the rest will serve no purpose. For it is in the nature of men to accept the easy path and turn aside from the harder one. But there is something in each which tells him this is wrong. Everyone has a spark within which, fanned by the wind of dedication, will kindle the flame of glory.”

Jesús dijo, “Muchos se unirán a mi causa, pero pocos serán elegidos para servir; muchos seguirán mi camino, pero se apartarán en los obstáculos. Porque si algún hombre cree, pero falla en poner su fe en práctica, será inútil para él. Si cualquiera toma parte de mis enseñanzas, evitando la austeridad y demás inconvenientes, la permanencia no tendrá propósito. Porque está en la naturaleza de los hombres aceptar el camino fácil y apartarse del difícil. Pero hay algo en cada uno que les dice que esto está equivocado. One of the twelve said, “Shall we confine our mission to the Jews?” Jesus replied, “Enlightenment is the inheritance of all men. Carry the message to all the seventy nations of the Earth.”

Uno de los doce dijo, “Debemos limitar nuestra misión a los Judíos?” Jesús replicó, “La iluminación es la herencia de todos los hombres. Llevad el mensaje a todas las setenta naciones de la Tierra”

Another asked, “Should we take it to the young and to the old as well? For the thoughts of the young change with every wind, while the old are like seasoned timber into which it is difficult to drive a nail.” Jesus said, “Teach each according to his understanding and capacity.”

Otro preguntó, “Debemos llevarlo a los jóvenes y a los ancianos de la misma forma? Porque el pensamiento de un joven cambia con cada viento, mientras el anciano es como madera seca en la que es difícil meter un clavo”. Jesús dijo, “Enseñad a cada uno de acuerdo con su comprensión y capacidad”

Jesus then said, “Always treat those you meet as you would have them treat you; act towards others as you would have them act towards you. For this is the essence of the law.”

Jesús dijo, “Tratad siempre a los que reunáis como querríais que ellos os trataran; Actuar hacia otros como vosotros querríais que ellos actuaran hacia vosotros. Porque esta es la esencia de la ley

When Jesus had given these instructions to the envoys, they left. And Jesus went with four disciples to carry the message to other towns.

Cuando Jesús hubo dado estas instrucciones a los enviados, ellos marcharon. Y Jesús fue con cuatro discípulo a llevar el mensaje a otros pueblos.

Chapter 13 – Capítulo 13

Jesus went from there to the house of His mother, for Mary had a small inheritance. She was a careful woman; for once, when her children were young, having lost a small silver coin, she swept the floor carefully, sifting until she found it.

Jesús fue desde allí a la casa de Su madre, porque María poseía una pequeña heredad. Era una mujer cuidadosa; en una ocasión, cuando sus hijos eran jóvenes, habiendo perdido una pequeña moneda de plata, rastreó cuidadosamente el suelo, cribándolo hasta que lo encontró.

Leaving there, He withdrew to the sea, for Jesus liked to swim and be among the boats. Now while He was there, a great number came from Galilee, from all of Juda and from Jerusalem, some even from beyond Jordan and from the coast of the Western Sea where He was known.

Saliendo de allí, se encaminó hacia el mar, porque Jesús quería nadar y estar entre los botes. Pues bien, mientras estaca allí, un gran número vino de Galilea, de todo Judá y de Jerusalén, algunos incluso de más allá del Jordán y de la costa del Mar del Oeste, dónde Él era conocido.

Jesus bid His followers prepare a small ship as quickly as possible to take Him away from the great crowd pressing about Him. As He had cured so many who were afflicted, those still uncured tried to touch Him, and there was a constant shoving and scuffling to get nearer.

Jesús mandó a sus seguidores preparar una pequeña barca tan pronto como fuera posible para llevarle lejos de la gran multitud que Le rodeaba. Como había curado a muchos que estaban afligidos , los que no habían sido curados todavía intentaban tocarle, y había un constante reñir y empujar para estar más cerca.

Escaping the boat, He went with it a short distance to where a path led up a hillside. Climbing this to a small mount, He sat down with His disciples. The time for celebrating the great festival was approaching, and Jesus had sent out many envoys and heralds.

Escapando en bote, hizo con él un corto trayecto hacia un camino que conducía a una planicie. Subiendo ésta hasta un pequeño monte, Él se sentó con sus discípulos. El momento para la celebración del gran festival estaba próximo, y Jesús mandó muchos enviados y mensajeros.

Seeing that a large crowd had gathered on the hillside, Jesus stood up and addressed the people, after they were seated, in this manner: “This is a night of ignorance when men wander, lost in the darkness of worldly conditions. I am the Light and Hope of men.

Viendo que una gran multitud se había reunido en la planicie, Jesús se levantó y se dirigió a la gente, después de que ellos se sentaran, de esta manera:,”Esta es una noche de ignorancia en la que los hombres andan errantes, abandonado en la oscuridad de las condiciones mundanas. Yo soy la Luz y la Esperanza de los hombres.

“These are the people I support and accept, and this is the message I give to them. For I have come to unsheathe the sword of the spirit among men and to lead them forth to fight the battles of God. The sword is the spirit, even as the body is the scabbard. Let your swords be bright and keen for the fray. Be stalwart and resolute, and the Rule of God will surely sweep all wickedness and evil, all pain and distress from the face of the Earth.

“Hay personas que aguanto y acepto y este es el mensaje que les doy. Pero Yo he venido a desenvainar la espada del espíritu entre los hombres y llevarles a luchar las batallas de Dios. La espada es el espíritu, mientras el cuerpo es la vaina. Mantener vuestras espadas relucientes y dispuestas para la batalla. Con lealtad y resolución y la Guía de Dios borraréis con seguridad toda la maldad y el pecado, todas las penas y desgracias de la faz de la Tierra.

“I accept the oppressed and dispirited, for they shall inherit glory in the Kingdom of the Spirit.

“Yo acepto a los oprimidos y abatidos, porque ellos heredarán la gloria en el Reino del Espíritu.

“I accept those who grieve, for they should not be without a comforter. Is it not written, ‘Let the words of God be an unquenchable light within you, and they will shorten your days of sorrow’?

“Yo acepto a los agraviados, porque no estarán sin consuelo. No se ha escrito,’ Dejad que las palabras de Dios sean una inextinguible luz en vosotros, y ellas acortarán vuestros días de dolor’?

“I accept the disinherited, for they shall inherit the Earth. Is it not written, ‘The disinherited shall be joyful amid bounty and peace’?

“Acepto a los desheredados, porque ellos heredarán la Tierra. No ha sido escrito, ‘Los desheredados serán felices entre bondad y paz’?

“I accept those who hunger after enlightenment, for they shall be satisfied. Is it not written, ‘The pleasures of the food table sit heavily on the stomach, but wisdom fills the heart with satisfaction and content’?

“Acepto a los que tienen hambre de sabiduría, porque ellos serán satisfechos. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Los placeres y las comidas de la mesa sientan malamente al estómago, pero la sabiduría colma el corazón con satisfacción y alegría’?

“I accept the compassionate, for they shall be compensated. Is it not written, ‘He who has compassion builds a fountain of consolation for his time of need’?

“Acepto a los compasivos, porque ellos serán compensados. Acaso no está escrito, ‘El que tiene compasión construye una fuente de consuelo para sus días de necesidad’?

“I accept the pure-hearted, for their nature draws them closer to God. Is it not written, ‘He whose hands and heart are clean receives the fullest measure of spiritpower’?

“Acepto a los puros de corazón, porque su naturaleza les coloca cercanos a Dios. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Aquel cuyas manos y corazón son limpios recibe la mayor cantidad del poder espiritual’?

“I accept the peacemakers, for they are truly the heirs of God. Is it not written, ‘Listen, My children, and I will teach you the ways that are good, causing you to seek for peace and maintain it’?

“Acepto a los que firman la paz, porque ellos son los verdaderos herederos de Dios. Acaso no se ha escrito, ‘Escuchad, hijos míos, y yo os enseñaré el buen camino, que te llevará a buscar la paz y mantenerla’?

“I accept those who suffer in the cause of mankind, for on them shall fall the mantle of glory in the Kingdom of the Spirit. Is it not written, ‘When they scorned and abused Me, I was strengthened by the Spirit of God, and nothing can now dismay Me’?

“Acepto a los que sufren por causa de la humanidad, porque sobre ellos caerá un manto de gloria en el Reino del Espíritu. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Cuando Me humillen y abusen de Mí, seré fortalecido por el espíritu de Dios, y ya nada me podrá perturbar’?

“I accept those whose motives, when seeking to do good, are misunderstood, for their place in glory is established. Is it not written, ‘Because they have reviled and slandered you, eternal glory will be granted’?

“Acepto a aquellos cuyos motivos, cuando quieren hacer un bien, son malinterpretados porque su lugar en la gloria está establecida. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Porque te han ultrajado y calumniado, yo te garantizaré la vida eterna’?

“You whom I accept are the salt of the Earth, but if the savor of the salt disappears, it is useless. As salt without any flavor would be good for nothing, so those without goodness in their hearts serve no purpose. As salt adds flavor to food, so do good men make life more acceptable.

“Vosotros a quienes yo acepto sois la sal de la Tierra, pero si el sabor de la sal desaparece, es inútil. Como la sal sin ningún sabor no sería buena para nada, así los que no tienen bondad en su corazón no sirven a ningún propósito. Igual que la sal añade sabor a la comida, así los hombres buenos hacen la vida más aceptable.

“I am your Light, but you are the light of the world. Therefore, build a strong city set on a hill, for a light shining from a hilltop cannot be hidden. I have given you the light so it may be put to use, for men do not put a lighted candle under a grain basket but in a candlestick where it can light up the room.

“Yo soy vuestra Luz, pero vosotros sois la luz del mundo. Por lo tanto, construid una ciudad fuerte sobre una colina, porque la luz que brilla desde lo alto de una colina no puede ser escondida. Yo os he dado la luz según puede ser usada, porque los hombres no colocan una vela encendida bajo un cesto de gano, sino en un candelabro dónde pueda iluminar la habitación.

“Let your lights shine before men, so they see the path clearly. Join your lights together, so they combine to form an unquenchable flame. For while a candle is easily snuffed out, it takes many men to subdue a forest fire.

“Dejad que vuestra luz brille ante los hombres, así verán el camino claramente. Poned juntas vuestras luces, así se mezclarán para formar una llama inextinguible. Porque mientras una vela se apaga fácilmente, se necesitan muchos hombres para apagar el fuego de un bosque.

“Be stouthearted and resolute, for the struggle will be grim. The foe is wily and well entrenched behind thick walls.

“Sed resueltos y valientes, porque la lucha será feroz. El enemigo es astuto y está bien atrincherado tras espesos muros

“Those who have lived with poverty and misery, maintaining a cheerful heart in tribulation, will arise to glory. Those who are broken serving the cause of God will receive a mantle of splendor. Those whose proper desires remain unfulfilled on Earth will find fulfillment in Heaven. Those who have cheerfully borne affliction or deformity will radiate strength. And those who die for the cause of justice and peace will inherit life in glory.

“Los que han vivido en la pobreza y miseria, manteniendo el corazón alegre en la tribulación, será elevados a la gloria. Los que han sufrido sirviendo a la causa de Dios recibirán un manto de esplendor. Los que por propio deseo permanecen sin cumplir en la Tierra, encontrarán cumplimiento en los Cielos. Los que han llevado alegremente la aflicción o la deformidad irradiarán fuerza. Y los que mueran por causa de la justicia y la paz heredarán la vida en la gloria.

“I reject those who oppose the Rule of God. I herald a reborn world, even as I was heralded; but while such as these encumber the Earth, it will not be reborn. I assure you of this: Unless the world be reborn, it cannot know the Rule of God. The upheaval of the labor pains will be great. For though many will say, ‘Speed the day’ with their lips, in their hearts they will be saying, ‘The cost is too great; spare the coming.’ By their fruits shall they be known, and by their deeds shall they be judged.

“Yo rechazo a los que se oponen al Mandato de Dios. Yo anuncio un renacido mundo, igual que Yo fui renacido; pero mientras tales como esos llenen la Tierra, no será renacida. Yo os aseguro esto: A no ser que el mundo se renueve, no puede conocer el Mandato de Dios. La sacudida de los dolores del trabajo será grande. Porque aunque muchos dicen, ‘El día se aproxima” con sus labios, en sus corazones estarán diciendo, ‘El coste es demasiado grande; hay tiempo de sobra (¿?)’. Por sus frutos serán conocidos y por sus obras serán juzgados.

“I reject the rich who live with their riches, or those who live beyond the bounds of moderation, for they shall be humbled in outer darkness. Is it not written, ‘Those in houses of comfort, where they sit at ease listening to instruments of music and sleep on soft beds of ivory, shall not survive’?

Yo rechazo al rico que vive con su riqueza, o a los que viven más allá de los límites de la moderación, porque serán humillados en la oscuridad exterior. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Los que viven en casas de confort, dónde permanecen a sus anchas oyendo instrumentos de música y duermen en camas de marfil, no sobrevivirán’?

“I reject those who gorge themselves with refinements of food while others hunger, for they shall hunger in the Kingdom of the Spirit. Is it not written, ‘They who serve God will be filled, but those who do not will want’?

Yo desprecio a los que se atracan ellos mismos con comidas refinadas mientras otros pasan hambre, porque ellos estarán hambrientos en el Reino del Espíritu. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Los que sirven a Dios serán satisfechos, pero los que no lo hacen pasarán necesidad’?

“I reject those who scorn the way of wisdom, seeking vain pleasures which dull the spirit, for they shall be sorrowful in their proper place. Is it not written, ‘The spirits of those who serve God shall be joyful, but the spirits of those who reject Him shall weep in sorrow and regret’?

Yo rechazo a los que desprecian el camino de la sabiduría, buscando placeres que embotan el espíritu, porque serán castigados en sus lugares asignados. Acaso no está escrito, ‘ Los espíritus de los que sirve a Dios serán felices, pero los espíritus de los que Le rechazan se lamentarán con dolor y remordimientos’?.

“I reject the arrogant and selfish and those mainly concerned with themselves, for they will be friendless in their place. Is it not written, ‘The things built of selfishness and false pride will be broken’?

“Yo rechazo al arrogante y al soberbio y a los que se ocupan principalmente de sí mismos, porque estarán sin amigos en su sitio. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Las cosas hechas de soberbia y falsa piedad serán destruídas’?

“I reject the liars and deceivers, for their abode is a place of darkness. Is it not written, ‘The deceitful shall not know the presence of God’?

“Yo rechazo a los mentirosas y a los defraudadores, porque su morada es un lugar en la oscuridad. Acaso no está escrito, ‘ El embustero no conocerá la presencia de Dios’?

“I reject those who encourage ignorance, walking stiff-necked, their hearts an unopened book, for they shall not be enlightened. Is it not written, ‘Those who shower scorn on the words of others and close their eyes to righteousness shall not receive a righteous reward in their place’?

“Yo rechazo a los que fomentan la ignorancia, que caminando con altanería, sus corazones como libros cerrados, porque ellos no serán iluminados. Acaso no se ha escrito, ‘Los que extiendan desprecio en las palabras de otros, y cierren sus ojos a la honradez, no recibirán una noble recompensa en su sitio’?

“I reject the fornicators and adulterers and those who seek after lewd pleasures, for they shall go to a place of uncleanness. Is it not written, ‘Only they who are clean can come into the presence of God’?

“Yo rechazo a los fornicadores y adúlteros y a los que corren tras lascivos placeres, porque ellos irán a un lugar de suciedad. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Sólo los que están limpios pueden llegar a presencia de Dios’”

“I reject those who in any way cause needless suffering, for they shall go to a place of pain. Is it not written, ‘He who causes distress, though it be done in secret, yet he is seen and will repay’?

Yo rechazo a los que de cualquier forma causan sufrimientos innecesarios, porque irán a un lugar de sufrimiento. Acaso no está escrito, ‘El que causa desgracia, aunque lo haga en secreto, será visto y le será devuelta’?

“I reject the hypocrites and self-deceivers, for their loathsomeness will be properly purged. Is it not written, ‘Words not written in the heart should never issue from the mouth’?

“Yo rechazo a los hipócritas y a los auto-impostores porque su repugnancia será debidamente purgada. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Las palabras no escritas en el corazón nunca serán emitidas por la boca’?

“Woe to all who hear My words but twist their meaning to suit their convenience. If a man says he is with Me but does not abide by My teachings, then he is a hypocrite. If he says, ‘But I live in circumstances where this does not apply,’ he is a liar. Far better that such as these say, ‘We are against You,’ for until they do, the world will not be reborn.

“Maldición para todo el que escucha Mis palabras pero retuercen su significado para conseguir sus conveniencias. Si un hombre dice que está Conmigo pero no cumple Mis enseñanzas, entonces es un hipócrita. Si dice, ‘Pero es que vivo en unas circunstancias en las que no se pueden aplicar’ es un mentiroso. Mucho mejor es que diga, ‘Estamos contra Ti”, porque mientras ellos lo hagan, el mundo no será renovado.

“I bring light to the thrashing floor of life, where suffering and misfortune are the flails, tribulation and distress the winnowing fan and the Wisdom of God the winnowing shovel. Here the wheat is separated from the husks, the chaff is thrown out, and the good grains gathered up.

“Yo traigo la luz para remover el fundamento de la vida, dónde el sufrimiento y la desventura son las cribas, la tribulación y la desgracia el entusiasmo que aventa y la Sabiduría de Dios la pala aventadora. Aquí el trigo es separado de la cáscara y la broza es arrojada fuera y los buenos granos se almacenan.

“I come to build a new Temple, and if you say, ‘These are good teachings,’ and take them to your heart but tomorrow revile your neighbor and deceive your kinfolk, you are an unstable brick. If the Temple be built with such material, surely it will collapse, and those within will perish. Is it not better if it were never built? If you say, ‘But I am weak,’ then examine your defects and take the first step to stability; but examination is a waste of time unless leading to rectification.

“Yo vengo a construir un nuevo Templo, y si decís,, ‘Estas son buenas enseñanzas’ y las aceptáis en vuestros corazones pero mañana ultrajáis a vuestro vecino y despreciáis a vuestra familia, sois unos inestables ladrillos. Si el Templo es construído con tal material, seguramente colapsará y morirán todos los que estén dentro. No es mejor que no se hubiera levantado nunca?. Si decís, ‘Pero es que soy débil”, entonces examina tus defectos y da el primer paso para la estabilidad; pero el examen dura demasiado tiempo a no ser que esté encaminado a la rectificación.

“I call you to serve no mean cause, but to stand beside Me and claim your inheritance. Those who dispute the claim are the ones I reject, and you must set your faces against them, even as I do. Come and inherit the incorruptible glory which is in Heaven, even as flesh is on Earth. The way is narrow and difficult, for no one who has not been tempted and tried can attain his reward.

“Yo os llamo a servir no a una causa inferior, sino a permanecer junto a Mí y reclamar vuestra herencia. Los que discuten la reclamación son a los que yo rechazo, y debéis plantarles cara, tal como yo hago. Venid y heredad la incorruptible gloria que está en los Cielos, igual que la carne está en la Tierra. El camino es estrecho y difícil, porque nadie que no ha sido probado y no se haya esforzado puede esperar su recompensa.

“He that is near Me is close to a blazing fire and may get burned, but he who withdraws from the heat withdraws from Heaven. Some have said, ‘The yoke of the law sits heavy on our shoulders,’ but I tell you, I come not to lighten but to increase the burden. Moses brought the law which says not to kill, but I say, any who releases anger on his brother without just cause shall not escape judgment.

“El que está junto a Mí está cerca de un fuego encendido y puede quemarse, pero el que se retira del calor se retira de los Cielos. Alguien ha dicho, ‘El yugo de la ley está depositado muy fuerte sobre nuestras espaldas’, pero yo os digo, Yo no vengo a aligerar sino a aumentar la carga. Moisés trajo la ley que dice no matar, pero yo os digo, cualquiera que atemorice a su hermano sin una razón justa no escapará de ser juzgado.

“The law you have condemns adultery, but I tell you that if any man looks upon a woman with fornication in mind, he is no less guilty. For it is what a man thinks that will lead him to glory or decay. He who is pure in love does not defile his heart by looking at another woman with fornication in view.

“La ley que tenéis condena el adulterio, pero yo os dicho que si un hombre mira a una mujer con la fornicación en el pensamiento, no es menos culpable. Porque es lo que el hombre piensa lo que le guiará a la gloria o le hará caer. El que es puro en el amor no ensucia su corazón mirando a otra mujer con la intención de fornicar.

“The law you have says, ‘No man shall put his wife aside unless he give her a bill of divorcement,’ but I tell you that whosoever seeks to put his wife aside, except for adultery or she is found unchaste, places her on the path of adultery and is therefore not guiltless. What God has blended in spirit let no man seek to sever, but those joined in body and not in spirit are not sanctified.

“La ley que tenéis dice, ‘Nadie expulsará a su mujer a no ser que le dé una declaración de divorcio’, pero yo os digo que cualquiera que intente expulsar a su mujer, excepto por adulterio o porque ella no es casta, la coloca en el camino del adulterio, por lo que no es inocente. Lo que Dios ha unido en espíritu nadie puede separarlo, pero los que se juntan por el espíritu no están santificados.

“The law you have says, ‘You shall not swear falsely or break an oath, though if you vow something to the service of God, the pledge must be kept.’ I tell you never to swear any oath, but confine yourself to a straightforward ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ It is needless to say more, for the word of a godly man is more binding than the most solemn oath sworn by another. If you are not a godly man, then doubtless your word and oath would be worthless anyway.

“La ley que tenéis dice, “Nunca jurarás falsamente ni romperás una promesa, incluso si prometes algo para el servicio de Dios, la promesa debe mantenerse’. Yo os digo que nunca juréis una promesa sino limitaros a un honrado ‘sí’ o ‘no’. No es necesario decir más, porque la palabra de un hombre honrado es más obligatoria que la más solemne promesa rota por otro. Si no eres un hombre de bien, tu sin duda tu palabra y tu promesa será despreciada en cualquier parte.

“If your eye give cause for complaint, leading you towards lewdness or obscenity, pluck it out. It is of greater advantage to suffer disfigurement on Earth than to be cast into the depths to suffer it there. If your right hand give cause for complaint, cut it off, for if your body be maimed on Earth, you bear it a little time; but surely do nothing to prevent it remaining intact in the place of glory.

“Si vuestro ojo es causa de queja, llevándoos hacia la lascivia o la obscenidad, arrancarlo. Es más ventajoso sufrir un desfiguramiento en la Tierra que ser arrojado a las profundidades a sufrirlo allí. Si vuestra mano derecha os causa perjuicio, cortarla, porque si tu cuerpo está mutilado en la Tierra, lo estaréis por poco tiempo; pero seguramente no hacéis nada por impedirlo al conservarlo intacto en el lugar de la gloria.

“The law you have says, ‘Love your neighbors and hate your enemies,’ but I tell you to love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who deceive or persecute you. For if you only give love for love, this cannot be claimed as a meritorious thing, when even criminals return the love of those who love them. If you only repay good with good, dealing fairly only with those who treat you likewise, how can merit be claimed for this, which is no more than criminals do? It is the same if you give only to those who give to you, for criminals give to their own kind. Can you stand by and let it be said that criminals treat each other better than do godly men? Love your enemies, but not their faults. Love those who hate you, but concede nothing to their wickedness. Give without expectation of return; then only can you lay claim to goodness and be called a Servant of God.

“La ley que tenéis dice, ‘Ama a tus vecinos y odia a tus Enemigos’, pero yo os digo que améis a vuestros enemigos, haced el bien a los que os odian y orad por los que os engañan u os persiguen. Porque si sólo dais amor por amor, eso no puede ser aclamado como algo meritorio, cuando incluso los criminales vuelven al amor de los que les quieren. Si sólo pagáis bien con bien, conduciéndoos educadamente con los que os tratan de la misma forma, como se puede reclamar mérito por esto, que no es más que lo que hacen los criminales?. Es lo mismo si dais sólo a quién os da, porque los criminales dan a su propia clase. Podéis estar conformes y dejar que se diga que los criminales se tratan mejor unos a otros de lo que lo hacen los hombres buenos?. Amad a vuestros enemigos, pero no sus faltas. Amad a los que os odian, pero no concedáis nada a su maldad. Dad sin esperar recompensa; sólo entonces podéis estar en situación de reclamar la bondad y ser llamados Siervos de Dios.

“I have not come to abolish the law or to change the teachings of the prophets, but to complete them, adding any necessary clarification and interpreting them to the understanding of men. But the time has come to ask: When will they be put into practice? When will men bring God out of the Temple and make Him a participant in their daily lives? When will men carry these things in their hearts and stop paying them lip service?

Yo no he venido a abolir la ley ni cambiar las enseñanzas de los profetas, sino a completarlas, añadiendo cualquier aclaración necesaria e interpretándolas para la comprensión de los hombres. Pero ha llegado el momento de preguntar: Cuando serán puestas en práctica? Cuando sacarán los hombres a Dios del Tempo y Le harán partícipe de su vida diaria?. Cuando llevarán los hombres estas cosas en su corazón y dejarán de pagarle con jarabe de pico (palabras)?

“I say with certainty, so long as Earth and the Heavens above it remain, not even the smallest particle shall be deducted from the law until the purpose it serves has been completed. Therefore, if anyone try to avoid even the least obligation imposed by the law, or to set aside the slightest of its restrictions, or teach others to do the same, he will be an insignificant thing in the life to come. But whoever lives by them, leading others to do likewise, will achieve the greatest heights of glory.

“En verdad os digo, mientras que la Tierra y los Cielos encima permanezcan, ni siquiera la menor partícula se cambiará de la ley hasta que la intención a la que sirve haya sido completada. Por lo tanto, si alguien intenta evitar siquiera la más pequeña obligación impuesta por la ley o arreglar el escamoteo de sus restricciones, o enseñar a otros a hacer lo mismo, él será una cosa insignificante en la vida que ha de venir. Pero cualquiera que viva para ella, llevando a otros a hacer lo mismo, acabará en el lugar mas alto de la gloria.

“Do all charitable acts privately, not displaying your righteousness to catch the eyes of others, for by so doing you void their benefits. Only those seeking public acclaim and hypocrites do these things ostentatiously. Never seek publicity for your deeds or goodness nor let it be forced on you. I assure you that those who do these things have their reward on Earth, and nothing awaits them elsewhere. When setting out on an errand of goodness, keep your right hand in ignorance of the left hand’s deeds. Do your good deeds in secret, knowing they are not overlooked and will be duly rewarded, but do them without thought of reward, or they will lose their merit.

“Haced todas las obras de caridad de forma privada, no exponiendo su nobleza para atraer los ojos de los otros, porque al hacerlo así perderéis su beneficio. Sólo los que buscan la aclamación pública y los hipócritas hacen estas cosas ostentosamente. Nunca busquéis publicidad para vuestras acciones o buenas obras ni dejéis que sean forzadas en vosotros. Yo os aseguro que los que hacen estas cosas tienen su recompensa en la Tierra, y nada les espera en ningún sitio. Cuando os dispongáis a un recado de bondad, dejad que vuestra mano derecha ignore las acciones de la mano izquierda. Haced vuestras buenas obras en secreto, sabiendo que no son vigiladas y recibiréis la debida recompensa, pero hacedlas sin pensar en la recompensa, o perderán su mérito.

“Do not be like the hypocrites who pray in the sight of everyone; they are being rewarded now. Pray in solitude, for your Father can be contacted from anywhere and is everywhere. Never use needless repetition or ramble on in the mistaken belief that the more you say, the more likely you are to be heard. Do not be a mere babbler of words, for prayer is not formed by words alone. Remember, your every need is known, so whatever is withheld may be for your own good. Prayer is contact between spirit and Spirit, and should seek only to reinforce the strength of the spirit.

“No seáis como los hipócritas que rezan a la vista de todo el mundo; ellos ya han sido recompensados. Orad en soledad, porque vuestro Padre puede ser contactado desde cualquier sitio y está en cualquier sitio. No uses la repetición sin necesidad ni divagues creyendo equivocadamente que cuanto más digáis, más atentamente seréis oídos. “This is a pattern for prayer: ‘Our Father in Spirit, may Your nature become known among men and Your rule established on Earth, according to the heavenly plan. May Your design be completed. Give us the sustenance we need, and overlook our transgressions as we overlook the transgressions of others. Do not test us too severely, and strengthen us against the servants of evil.’

“Este es un modelo de oración, ‘Oh, Espíritu del Padre, haz que Tu naturaleza sea conocida entre los hombres y Tu mandato se establezca en la Tierra, de acuerdo con el plan celestial. Haz que tus designios sean completados. Danos el sustento que necesitamos y disculpa nuestras transgresiones, así como nosotros disculpamos las transgresiones de los demás. “If you overlook the failings of others and forgive people for the wrongs they have done to you, then the burden of your own will be alleviated. Also, when you fast or undertake an obligation, do not be like the hypocrites who lengthen their faces, going about it self-righteously, bringing themselves to the attention of others.

“Hoard no earthly treasures which can be destroyed by moths and decay, or may be stolen by thieves. It is far better to establish a storehouse in the Spiritland, for there you can accumulate treasures beyond reach of these things. A man’s heart is never far from the place where he establishes his credit.

“Si vosotros disculpáis los fallos de otros y perdonáis a la gente por los males que os han hecho, entonces, el yugo de vuestra propia voluntad será aliviado. De la misma manera, cuando ayunéis o aceptéis una obligación, no hagáis como los hipócritas que levantan sus caras, mostrándose arrogantemente, atrayendo hacia sí la atención de otros.

“No acumuléis tesoros terrenales que pueden ser destruídos por las polillas y desmoronarse o pueden ser robados por los ladrones. Es mucho mejor establecer un almacén en Tierras del Espíritu (Spiritland), porque allí podéis acumular tesoros más valiosos que estas cosas. El corazón de un hombre no está nunca muy lejos del lugar en el que establece su crédito.

“Providing you view everything optimistically, maintaining a cheerful and confident outlook, you will radiate assurance. If you do not, you will shed despondency and gloom wherever you go. No man has ever succeeded in serving two masters, for his loyalties must lie with one or the other. Neither can a man have two prime objectives; he must aim for an earthly goal or a spiritual one.

Procurando ver todas las cosas con optimismo, manteniendo la alegría y una perspectiva confiada radiaréis seguridad. Si no, sembraréis el desaliento y pesimismo dondequiera que vayáis. Ningún hombre ha triunfado sirviendo a dos dueños, porque su lealtad debe inclinarse

hacia uno u otro. Ni puede un hombre tener dos objetivos primarios; él debe aspirar a una meta terrenal o a una espiritual.

“I advise you not to worry unduly about the future needs of the body, how it will be nourished and clothed. There is more to life than eating and comfort, while overdone pleasure soon palls. Keep this one fact constantly in mind: The soul is of more importance than the body.

“Os recomiendo que no os preocupéis demasiado de las futuras necesidades del cuerpo, cómo lo nutriréis y vestiréis. Es mejor vivir que comer y estar cómodo, pues los placeres exagerados acaban pronto. Retened este hecho constantemente en el pensamiento: el alma es más importante que el cuerpo.

“Think about the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap or gather in a harvest, yet provision has been made for their needs. Do you think any less consideration has been given to your welfare? Trust in the powers above, and when things go wrong, try to understand the reason. When you are being tried by tribulation, try and see the objective of the test.

“Pensad en los pájaros en el aire; ellos no siembran ni cosechan ni guardan recolectando, aún así tienen provisiones para sus necesidades, Creéis que menos consideración se ha dado a vuestro bienestar? “Is there anyone among you who, by though alone, can add an arm’s length to his height? Worry is a useless activity of the mind, so why worry about food and clothing? Look how the wild flowers grow in the meadows: they do not toil or spin, yet Solomon in full regalia was not attired so attractively as one of these. If such beauty is bestowed on wildflowers, which can display it for only a few days before being consumed, shall God not give much more attention to you, His children? Or have you no faith in anything?

“ Hay alguno entre vosotros que, por sí mismo, pueda añadir la longitud de un brazo a su altura? Preocuparse es una actividad inútil del pensamiento, así que por qué preocuparse por la comida o el vestido? Mirad cómo brotan las flores silvestres en los prados; ella no se afanan ni corren, incluso Salomón con todos sus adornos no estaba engalanado tan atractivamente como una de ellas. Si tal belleza es adjudicada a las flores silvestres, que pueden disfrutar de ella sólo unos pocos días antes de ser consumidas, no prestará Dios mucha más atencióna vosotros, Sus hijos? “Therefore, worry less about material things, and concentrate more on the spiritual, making the cause of God your main concern. Do this, and all other things will come within your reach. Do not worry about tomorrow, for it will look after itself. Each day will bring you sufficient problems without the need to worry about those of other days.

“Por lo tanto, preocuparos poco de las cosas materiales, y concentraos más en las espirituales, haciendo la causa de Dios vuestro único asunto. Haced esto, y todas las demás cosas llegarán a extenderse en vuestro interior. No os preocupéis por el mañana, porque se verá después de sí mismo. Cada día os traerá suficientes problemas sin necesidad de preocuparse por los de otros días.

“There is no reason why hypocrisy, the disease of the day, should come so naturally to men. But which of you is not contaminated by it? How many of you are self-deceivers, making excuses for these things? How is it you can readily detect the small faults in others while being absolutely blind to your own much greater ones? How can you say to another, ‘Let me help you see more clearly,’ when you are practically blind yourself? You, hypocrites and self-deceivers, first examine your own faults and failings before criticizing those of others.

No hay razón de por qué la hipocresía, enfermedad de estos días, llegara tan naturalmente a los hombres. Pero quién de vosotros no está contaminado por ella? Cuántos de vosotros os habéis auto-engañado, buscando excusas para estas cosas? Cómo es que podéis detectar certeramente una pequeña falta en otros mientras sois totalmente ciegos para las vuestras muchas veces más grandes? Cómo podéis decir a otro, ‘déjame ayudarte a ver claramente’ cuando vosotros mismos sois prácticamente ciegos? Vosotros, hipócritas y auto-engañados, primero examinar vuestras propias faltas y caídas antes de criticar las de otros.

“Never be afraid to voice your needs, and if you have a friend, turn to him whenever you require help, for this is the nature of friendship. Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened. These things are the law of life, for at the end it will be said to you, ‘As you sought, so have you found; and according to the manner of asking have you received.’ It is not what you seek, but how you seek; not what you request, but the manner of requesting.

“Nunca tengáis miedo de contar vuestras necesidades, y si tenéis un amigo, vuélvete a él cada vez que necesites ayuda, porque esta es la naturaleza de la amistad. Pide, y recibirán; buscas y encontrarás; llama y la puerta se abrirá. Estas cosas son la ley de la vida, porque al final se te dice, “ Según busques, así encontrarás; y de acuerdo con la forma de pedir tú recibirás.’ No es lo que busques, sino cómo lo buscas; no lo que pides, sino la manera de la petición.

“Is there any man among you who, if his son ask for bread, will give him a stone, or a snake if he ask for a fish? If, then, you, with all your mortal faults and ignorance, know how to give the right things to your children, how much more able is God to give what is right for His.

“Hay algún hombre entre vosotros que, si su hijo le pide pan, le dé una piedra, o una serpiente si él pide pescado? Entonces, si vosotros con todas vuestros fallos terrenales e ignorancia, sabéis dar lo apropiado a vuestros hijos, cuánto más capaz es Dios para dar lo que es correcto para Él.

“The things you surely do not need are comfort and content, while assurance and security open the gates to spiritual apathy. Enter by the narrow, unpretentious gate, for the road leading to the dark abyss has a wide road and attractive entrance, while the gate leading to immortality is austere, and the road fraught with difficulties.

“Las cosas que con seguridad no necesitáis son el confort y la satisfacción, puesto que la confianza y la seguridad abren las puertas a la apatía espiritual. Entrad por la angosta, la puerta sin pretensiones, Porque el camino que lleva al oscuro abismo tiene una amplias y atractiva entrada, mientras la puerta que lleva a la inmortalidad es austera, y el camino está lleno de dificultades.

“Beware of false prophets and those who would mislead you, for many seeking to promote their own ends walk the ways of righteousness, clothed in sheepskins, but are hypocrites, being ravening wolves within. Those who indicate an easy path are false guides. And those who say another can absolve them from the effects of their misdeeds expound an error.

“Precaveos de los falsos profetas y de los que os quieran guiar mal, porque muchos buscando promover sus propios fines caminan por caminos de rectitud, vestidos en pieles de cordero, pero son hipócritas, siendo lobos hambrientos por dentro. Los que recomiendan caminos fáciles son falsos guías. Y los que dicen a otros que pueden absolverles de los efectos de sus malas acciones exponen un error.

“You will know them by the effects of their teachings, just as a good tree is recognized through the fruit it bears. Can the wildthorn produce grapes, or are figs found growing on thistles? If a tree fail to produce good fruit, it is cut down and burned, for it can serve no better purpose. Therefore I say, judge men by the fruits of their labors.

“Los conoceréis por el efecto de sus enseñanzas, igual que un buen árbol es reconocido por el fruto que produce. Puede el espino silvestre producir uvas, o se pueden encontrar higos creciendo en los cardos? Si un árbol deja de producir buen fruto, se corta y se quema, porque no puede servir a mejor propósito. Por lo tanto, Yo os digo, juzgad a los hombres por el fruto de sus trabajos

“Some hail Me as their Leader, thinking this will help them in the life to come, but it will not. Only those who wholeheartedly serve the cause and purpose of God will enjoy this in full glory. Many who do things in My name will expect Me to intercede for them, but to these I will say, I did not know you, or authorize the statements you made; by your deeds shall you be judged.

“Algunos Me aclaman como su Líder, pensando que esto les ayudará en la vida futura, pero no será así. Sólo los que sirvan de todo corazón a la causa y propósito de Dios lo disfrutará en completa gloria. Muchos que realizan cosas en mi nombre confiarán en Mí para interceder por ellos, pero yo les diré, Yo no os he conocido, ni he autorizado la exposición que hacéis; seréis juzgados por vuestras obras.

“This does not apply to those who, hearing My words, put them into practice, for they are like the sensible man who built his house on a foundation of rock. The rain poured down and the floods rose; the wind howled above and beat against the house. But it did not collapse because it was set firmly.

“Esto no es aplicable a los que, oyendo Mis palabras, las ponen en práctica, porque son como el hombre sensible que levanta su casa sobre unos cimientos de roca. La lluvia la lava y el suelo se eleva; el viento sopla por arriba y choca contra la casa. Pero la casa no se cae porque está firmemente asentada.

“But there will be many who, hearing these words of Mine, will ignore them. And these may be likened to a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain poured down, the floods rose, the wind howled and beat against the walls, and the whole house collapsed.

Pero habrá muchos que, oyendo esta palabras de Mí, las ignorarán. Y estos pueden ser comparados a un hombre loco que construye su casa e la arena. La lluvia circula por debajo, los suelos se elevan, el viento sopla y choca contra los muros, y toda la casa colapsa.

“I herald the coming of the Rule of God and a reborn world. I accept those who follow My way, and I will lead them into their kingdom. I reject all those who are against My way.

“Yo anuncio la llegada del Mandato de Dios y un renacer del mundo. Acepto a los que siguen Mi c amino, y les conduciré a su reino. Rechazo a todos los que están contra Mi camino.

“I call upon men of good will to follow us - men who wholeheartedly desire the light and oppose the way of darkness. But the road may be long and beset by many foes. Yet have no fear of those who come with swords and fiery words; their danger is apparent. Those who will be our undoing are the hypocrites and self-deceivers who pay lip service only and manipulate the words of the law to accord with their convenience. I tell you this: Many will come, but few will be selected.

“Yo llamo a los hombres de buena voluntad a seguirnos -los hombres que desean de todo corazón la luz y se oponen al camino de la obscuridad. Pero el camino puede ser largo y acosado por muchos enemigos. Sin embargo no temáis a los que llegan con espadas y obscenas palabras; su peligro es aparente. Los que serán nuestra ruina son los hipócritas y los autoengañados que rinden servicio sólo por la boca y manipulan las palabras de la ley para que se acomoden a su conveniencia. Yo os digo: Muchos vendrán, pero pocos serán escogidos.

“Moses viewed the promised land only from Pisgah. Let this not be your fate. Face the difficulties ahead, overcome the evildoers who maintain the rule of evil, and claim your reward. The sword is drawn, but the battle has yet to be won.

“Moisés veía la tierra palestina sólo desde Pisgah. No permitáis que éste sea vuestro destino. Plantad cara a las dificultades, venced a los malvados que mantienen el poder del mal, y reclamad vuestra recompensa. La espada está preparada, pero la batalla todavía tiene que ser ganada.

“In the reborn world, the wolf shall lay down with the lamb, and the lion with the kid, and a little child shall play with them. Surely, because of their goodness and goodwill, even the wild beasts will submit themselves to the will of those who participate in the Rule of God.”

“En el mundo renacido, el lobo se sentará junto al cordero y el león junto al cabrito y un niño pequeño jugará con ellos. Con seguridad, or su bondad y buena voluntad, incluso las bestias salvajes se someterán a la voluntad de los que participan en el Mandato de Dios

When Jesus finished speaking, the great assembly of people was silent. For, unlike other teachers, He appeared inspired by divine authority. But within moments they were excitedly discussing the words among themselves.

Cuando Jesús acabó de hablar, la gran multitud de gente estaba silenciosa. Porque, a diferencia de otros maestros, Él parecía inspirado por la autoridad divina. Pero al momento discutían excitados las palabras entre ellos mismos.

Then a disciple who stood beside Jesus shouted, “All who serve God, praise Him. For He has sent a true Enlightener and a Deliverer, and will Himself reign over us through the Spirit which fills His Son. Heed these things, follow the way of Jesus, take up the cross of life and the Rule of God is at hand.”

Entonces un discípulo que permanecía junto a Jesús dijo en alto, “Todos los que sirven a Dios, que Le recen. Porque ha mandado un verdadero Iluminado y Libertador, y reinará sobre nosotros por el Espíritu que llena a Su Hijo. Atiende estas cosas, seguidor del camino de Jesús, coge la cruz de la vida y el Mandato de Dios está a mano”

There were many among the crowd who said, “Surely This is God’s Anointed for Whom we have long awaited. Now we will be delivered according to the promises of the prophets.”

Hearing the things said by the people among themselves, Jesus was saddened and said to Bartholomew, who stood near Him, “Tomorrow they will revert to their old way of life and permit evil to reign through hypocrites and self-deceivers. How can they be brought to understand that should God intervene to bring about the Rule of God, Earth and mankind will have failed Him and be unworthy of His rule? Life’s purpose is to produce shepherds, not sheep. But the lives of the people are turned inwards upon themselves.”

Había muchos entre la multitud que decían, “Seguramente Éste es el Enviado de Dios, al que hemos esperado tanto tiempo. Ahora seremos liberados de acuerdo con las promesas de los profetas. Oyendo estas cosas dichas por el pueblo entre ellos Jesús se entristecía y le dijo a Bartolomé, que estaba cerca de Él, “Mañana volverán a sus antiguas costumbres de vida y permitirán reinar al mal a través de los hipócritas y auto-engañados. Cómo pueden ser llevados a comprender que si Dios interviniera para traer Su Mandato, la Tierra y la humanidad le habrán fallado y serán indignos de su guía? El propósito de la vida es producir postores no ovejas. Pero la vida de la gente se ha replegado sobre sí mismos”

It was now late in the day, but many people still lingered. And a disciple said to Jesus, “Sire, the crowd was very large, and many did not hear all Your words. Could You not speak to these? For, though hungry, they would rather listen to You.”

Ya estaba el día avanzado, pero mucha gente todavía se había quedado. Uno de los discípulos dijo a Jesús, “Señor, la multitud es muy grande, y muchos no han oído todas Tus palabras. No podrías hablar para ellos? Porque, a causa del hambre, podrían escucharte mejor”

Jesus said, “My throat aches, but I have bread more satisfying than that which fills the stomach, and meat more satisfying than worldly meat. My supply is inexhaustible. I have multiplied this through you, so now you go among the people and provide what they need.”

Jesús dijo, “Me duele la garganta, pero tengo un pan más satisfactorio que el que llena el estómago, y carne más satisfactoria que la carne mortal. Mi suministro es inextinguible, lo he multiplicado por vosotros, así que ahora id entre la gente y dadles lo que necesitan
