Chapter 25

A number of women stood off watching from a distance, among them being Mary of Magdala - also called Mary of Bethena, Marmaryam, and Mary the mother of James the Younger and Joseph - and Salome, who had followed Jesus, administering to His needs in Galilee.

Un grupo de mujeres permanecían mirando desde la distancia, entre las que estaban María de Magdala – también llamada María de Bethena, Marmaryam, y María la madre de Santiago el Menor y José – y Salomé, que había seguido a Jesús, atendiendo a Sus necesidades en Galilea.

There were also others who had come to Jerusalem with Him, but the only disciple there was James.

Estaban también otros que habían venido a Jerusalén con Él, pero el único discípulo que estaba era Sasntiago.

When the women wept with pity, he said to them,

Cuando las mujeres lloraban con piedad, él les dijo,

“I see now what I was blind to before. Let us not waste tears in futile pity, but strengthen our hearts so His sacrifice is not in vain. He did this to change the hearts of the people. Let us be worthy of Him.”

“Ahora veo que yo estaba ciego antes. No desperdiciemos las lágrimas en una inútil piedad, sino fortalezcamos nuestros corazones para que Su sacrificio no sea en vano. Él ha hecho esto para cambiar el corazón del pueblo. Seamos dignos de Él.

Then James left, for he received word that the disciples were being sought, it being feared they would set fire to the Great Temple, or arouse the people so there was a revolt. There had been disturbances in the city, but because of Barabbas, only three were killed.

Entonces Santiago marchó, porque había recibido el recado de que los discípulos estaban siendo buscados, teniendo miedo de que prendieran fuego al Gran Templo, o soliviantaran al pueblo y se produjera una revuelta. Había habido disturbios en la Ciudad, pero por causa de Barabbas, sólo habían muerto tres.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to the house of John, and Markus and Joses also came there. It was in that house that the first words of this gospel were written.

María, la madre de Jesús, fue trasladada a casa de Juan, y Marcos y Joses también llegaron. Fue en esta casa en la que las primeras palabras de este evangelio fueron escritas.

Many of the disciples had deserted Jesus and were in hiding. Others went about not knowing what to do, their hearts full of misery and sorrow. They lacked the influence needed to save Jesus from the common pit of criminals. And Mary, His mother, did not claim the body, though the arrangements made were unknown to her.

Muchos de los discípulos habían desertado de Jesús y estaban escondidos. Otros daban vueltas sin saber qué hacer, sus corazones llenos de tristeza y pena. Ellos carecían de la influencia necesaria para salvar a Jesús de la fosa común de los criminales. Y María, Su madre, no reclamó el cuerpo, aunque los preparativos hechos eran desconocidos para ella.

Now, one of the elders of the Supreme Council was a man named Josias, called Joseph of Abramatha - son of Yokkim, son of Nathan, son of Elezar, son of Elihu, son of Yakim, son of Zadok - who lived on the Merchant’s Road, a day’s journey from Jerusalem. He also owned an estate north-west of the city. He had a brother-in-law named Nikodius, and both were secret followers of Jesus. Joseph of Abramatha, the wise Commander, had been present at the Council when it sat in judgment on Jesus, and he supported Him, but many more who could have done so were absent because of the hour.

Ahora bien, uno de los ancianos del Consejo Supremo era un hombre de nombre Josías, llamado José de Abramatha – hijo de Yokkim, hijo de Nathan, hijo de Elezar, hijo de Elihu, hijo de Yakim, hijo de Zadok – que vivía en la calle de los Mercaderes, a un día de distancia de

Jerusalén. También poseía inmuebles en el noroeste de la ciudad. Tenía un cuñado de nombre Nikodius, y ambos eran secretos seguidores de Jesús. José de Abramatha, un Comandante sensato, había estado presente en el Consejo cuando se llevó a juicio a Jesús, y Le había apoyado, pero muchos más que podrían haberlo hecho estaban ausentes debido a la hora.

When evening drew near and Jesus had been four hours on the cross, Joseph of Abramatha, being a man of status and authority, went to Pontius Pilate without fear, for they were friends. He requested the body of Jesus, his kinsman, saying, “It is written in our law that the sun shall not be permitted to set on the body of a murdered man.”

Cuando la tarde estaba cerca y Jesús llevaba cuatro horas en la cruz, José de Abramatha, siendo un hombre de respeto y autoridad, fue hacia Poncio Pilatos sin miedo, porque eran amigos. Él reclamó el cuerpo de Jesús, su pariente, diciendo, “Está escrito en nuestra ley que no se permitirá que el sol se ponga en el cuerpo de un hombre muerto.”

The Governor said, “You are an upright man, and I will not deny this to you.” But he was surprised to hear Jesus had died so quickly, and he sent for the centurion in charge of the execution, a man known to Joseph, who assured Pilate that Jesus was undoubtedly dead.

El Gobernador dijo, “Tú eres un hombre de honor, y no te negaré esto”. Pero estaba sorprendido de que Jesús hubiera muerto tan rápidamente, y mandó llamar al centurión a cargo de la ejecución, un hombre conocido por José, que aseguró a Pilatos que Jesús estaba indudablemente muerto.

On hearing this, Pilate granted the Commander custody of the body, and though some Jews present objected, wishing Jesus to be buried in the criminals’ pit, they had to submit to Roman law. Yet the Jewish law also stated it was the duty of the nearest relative to dispose of the body, irrespective of how death occurred.

Al oír esto, Pilatos entregó al Comandante la custodia del cuerpo, y a pesar de que algunos Judíos presentaron objeciones, queriendo que Jesús fuera enterrado en la fosa de los criminales, ellos habían aceptado la ley Romana. Incluso la ley de los Judíos establecía que era obligación del familiar más cercano hacerse cargo del cuerpo, independientemente de cómo ocurría la muerte.

Now this being the Sabbath Eve, the bodies could not remain upon their crosses after nightfall. Therefore, the Jews requested of Pilate that the legs of the condemned men be broken, allowing the bodies to hang free so they quickly died. So the soldiers took mallets and broke the legs of the other two, but when they came to Jesus, the centurion said, “He is already dead.”

Como se acercaba el Sabbath, los cuerpos no deberían permanecer sobre sus cruces después de la caída del sol. Por lo tanto, los Judíos pidieron a Pilatos que las piernas de los hombres condenados fueran rotas, mientras los cuerpos seguían colgados libres para que murieran rápidamente. Joseph the Commander took his son Joses, Nikodius and one other and, having already purchased a linen shroud, went to the place of execution and removed Jesus from the cross. Wrapping Him in the sheet, they carried Jesus through the darkness to a tomb already cut out of the rock. It was a two-chambered cavern north-west of the city, having a ledge running around the inside, and the entrance faced eastward towards the place of execution. It was the north end of a garden planted with cabbages, and the gardener was also custodian of the tomb.

José el Comandante llamó a su hijo Joses, Nikodius y a otro y, habiendo comprado ya un sudario de lino, fueron al lugar de la ejecución y bajaron a Jesús de la cruz. Envolviéndolo en el lienzo, trasladaron a Jesús en la oscuridad a una tumba ya excavada en una roca. Era una cueva de dos habitaciones en el noroeste de la ciudad, que tenía un saliente que rodeaba el interior, y la entrada miraba al Este hacia el lugar de la ejecución. Estaba terminada al Norte por un huerto plantado de repollos, y el jardinero era también el guardián de la tumba.

When Jesus had been place inside, a great stone was rolled across the entrance, and two men were left on guard beside it.

Cuando Jesús fue colocado dentro, una gran piedra se atravesó cruzando la puerta y dos hombres quedaron de guardia junto a ella.

Now, things happened on the Sabbath which may not be written, for they are in the secret of the Lord, known only to the elect of the House of God, which is in the Isle of Departure.

Ahora bien, Algunas cosas ocurrieron en el Sabbath que no pueden ser escritas, porque están en el secreto del Señor, conocidas sólo por el elegido de la Casa de Dios, que está en la Isla de Partida.

Those who guarded the tomb, when questioned regarding these things, said, “The disciples came early and carried Him away for burial in a proper manner at another place. For He was laid here only because of the Sabbath, and it was not His tomb.” None questioned them further, for this was proper. And the guards were only placed to protect certain bodies from those who would work evil sorceries on them, those who improperly tampered with bodies being put to death.

Los que guardaban la tumba, cuando preguntaban repasando estas cosas, decían, “Los discípulos vinieron pronto y Le llevaron fuera para un entierro en forma apropiada en otro lugar. Porque Él estaba depositado aquí sólo debido al Sabbath, y no era Su tumba. Nadie les cuestionaba, porque era lo apropiado. Y los guardas estaban sólo colocados para proteger algunos cuerpos de los que podrían trabajar malos hechizos en ellos, los que de forma impropia intentaban manejar los cuerpos que estaban puestos para la muerte.

After the Sabbath was over, some women came with spices and oils to deal with the body of Jesus. But when they came to the tomb, they found that the great stone had been rolled aside. The guards were gone, but a young man was seated just inside the entrance, and he said to them, “Do not be afraid of me, for I am a friend. Jesus, Whom you seek, is not here. But go and tell Peter that He will be with him as promised.” The women were very much afraid and left in haste.

Después de que el Sabbath pasó, algunas mujeres llegaron con especias y aceites para tratar el cuerpo de Jesús. Pero cuando llegaron a la tumba, encontraron que la gran piedra había sido puesta a un lado. Los guardias se habían ido, pero un joven estaba sentado justo dentro de la entrada, y les dijo, “No tengáis miedo de mí, porque soy un amigo. Jesús, a Quien vosotros buscáis, no está aquí. Pero id y decidle a Pedro que Él estará con él según lo prometido.” Las mujeres estaban muy asustadas y marcharon deprisa.

When they had gone, Marmaryam came with another and stood outside the tomb weeping. And as she did so, a voice behind her said, “Why do you weep?” Turning, she saw the gardener and said to him, “They have taken Jesus away, and I have no knowledge of what has happened to Him.” Then the gardener told her to go to John, the son of Annas.

Cuando ellas marcharon, Marmaryam llegó con otro y permaneció fuera de la tumba llorando. Y cuando lo estaba haciendo, una voz detrás de ella dijo, “¿Por qué lloras?” Volviéndose, vio al jardinero y le dijo “ Han cogido a Jesús lejos, y yo no sé lo que ha pasado con Él” Entonces el jardinero le dijo que fuera a Juan, el hijo de Annas.

Peter and two others were also making their way to the tomb when they met the women coming away. The women told them what they had seen and heard. And Peter, thinking they were talking wildly through sorrow, sent one of his companions to go with them. Then he hastened to the tomb, arriving to find it empty and no one there. So, being perplexed, he sat down outside while the other went in search of the gardener. While seated there, he saw a shining figure in the gloom within the tomb and knew it for a Spirit Messenger. And he heard a voice saying, “Jesus has fulfilled the promises and is truly the Chosen One, God’s Anointed.”

Pedro y otros dos también iban de camino hacia la tumba cuando se encontraron a las mujeres que volvían. Las mujeres les dijeron lo que habían visto y oído. Y Pedro, pensando que se habían vuelto locas de pena, mandó a uno de sus compañeros ir con ellas. Cuando corrió hacia la tumba, al llegar la encontró vacía y allí no había nadie. Así, estando perplejo, se sentó fuera mientras el otro iba a buscar al jardinero. Mientras estaba sentado allí, vio una figura que brillaba en las tinieblas dentro de la tumba y parecía un Espíritu Mensajero. Y oyó una voz diciendo, “Jesús ha cumplido las promesas y es verdaderamente el Elegido, El Señalado de Dios.

Then the other returned with the gardener, who told Peter to go and meet John, the son of Annas, at Emeras, about nine miles distant. And they went to that place, which was a village not far from the house of Joseph of Abramatha.

Entonces el otro volvió con el jardinero, que le dijo a Pedro que fuera a reunirse con Juan, el hijo de Annas, en Emeras, distante unas nueve millas. Y ellos fueron a aquel lugar, que era un pueblo no lejos de la casa de José de Abramatha.

Arriving there, they found John, the son of Annas, and another John, and James and Joses, the sons of Joseph by Anna (his first wife, the fair stranger), his son by Mary, and Mark, his adopted son. Nikodius was also there with Lazarus, and they were all in the house of Hosius. Later, a number of envoys came.

Al llegar allí, encontraron a Juan, el hijo de Annas, y a otro Juan, y Santiago y Joses, los hijos de José con Anna (su primera esposa, una gentil extranjera) su hijo con María y Marcos, su hijo adoptivo. También estaba allí Nikodius con Lázaro, y estaban todos en casa de Hosius.. Más tarde llegaron un grupo de enviados.

Then, while they were seated at a table, Jesus came among them and said, “Let us take food together and rejoice, for the prophecies have been fulfilled regarding the Chosen One as it is said in the Holy Books. The Servant of Man is arisen from among those who sleep, for death has not claimed Him. But these things, while fulfilling the promises, will not bring about the Rule of God, for this will not come while men sit waiting for signs. The people have been given that which fulfills their hopes and aspirations. Now surely they will believe in My cause and arise to sweep evil aside. Now the Spirit of Truth dwells among you, though it is still out of place in a world under the rule of man.”

Entonces, mientras estaban sentados a la mesa, Jesús llegó entre ellos y dijo, “Vamos a comer juntos y alegrarnos, porque las profecías han sido cumplidas respecto al Elegido según está escrito en los Libros Sagrados. El Servidor del hombre ha surgido de entre los que duermen, porque la muerte no Le ha reclamado. Pero estas cosas, aunque las profecías se cumplan, no traerán la Ley de Dios, porque ésta no llegará mientras los hombres estén esperando señales. Al pueblo se le ha dado lo que colmaba sus esperanzas y aspiraciones. Ahora con seguridad creerán en mi causa y se levantará para barrer el pecado a un lado. Ahora el Espíritu de la Verdad se derramará entre vosotros, aunque todavía está fuera de lugar en un mundo bajo la ley del hombre”.

Then Jesus told of all the things which had been written in the Holy Books concerning these things, and how the Chosen One, God’s Anointed, would be disowned by men, would suffer for their willfulness and arise from among the dead to appear on the third day. Then he said, “Are not all these things fulfilled in Me?”

Entonces Jesús habló de todo lo que había sido escrito en los Libros Sagrados concerniente a estas cosas, y cómo el Elegido, Señalado de Dios, debía ser repudiado por los hombres debía sufrir por su voluntad y levantarse de entre los muertos para aparecer al tercer día. Entonces dijo, “Acaso no se ha cumplido todas estas cosas en Mí?”

Then He departed.

Después Él se marchó.

Some days later, all the disciples who were the chosen of Jesus met in a secret place. And Jesus joined them and proved Himself to those who still disbelieved. And they said, “Sire, forgive our disbelief and forgive us for doubting the things You taught concerning Yourself.”

Algunos días después, todos los discípulos que eran los elegidos de Jesús se reunieron en un lugar secreto. Y Jesús se les unió y se mostró a los que todavía no creían. Y ellos dijeron, “Señor, perdona nuestra falta de fe y perdónanos por dudar de las cosas que tú enseñaste acerca de Ti mismo.”

Jesus said, “This is the day of the coming of the Lord, who will rule the Earth. Yet is it not written, ‘This will be a day of darkness, and not of light’?”

Then Jesus spoke these words: “I go to a place far away beyond the world, where you may not follow. For I fulfill the hopes of all men. Now, you go out, carrying the message that the prophecies have been fulfilled and the time is at hand when the Rule of God should be established among men. For, the promises having been fulfilled for the people, surely they will now believe and rally to the cause of Good, sweeping wickedness and evil from the face of the Earth. Say to them, ‘That has been done that had to be done.’

Jesús dijo, “Este es el día de la venida del Señor, que gobernará la Tierra. Acaso no está escrito, ‘Ese será un día de oscuridad, y no de luz’?”

Entonces Jesús dijo estas palabras, “Yo voy a un lugar muy lejano más allá del mundo, donde vosotros no podéis seguirme. Porque yo colmo las esperanzas de todos los hombres. Ahora yo llevo el mensaje de que las profecías se han cumplido y está cercano el tiempo en el que la Ley de Dios será establecida entre los hombres. Porque, habiendo sido las promesas cumplidas para el pueblo, con seguridad ahora creerán y se apuntarán a la causa del Bien, barriendo la maldad y el pecado de la sal de la Tierra. Decidles, “Lo que ha sido hecho, tenía que ser hecho”

“Now you must take up the burden, for if you would become children of God and reclaim your lost heritage, you must prove yourselves worthy heirs. Let not all the suffering be in vain.”

“Ahora debéis cumplir vuestro deber, porque si os convertís en hijos de Dios y reclamáis vuestra perdida herencia, debéis probar que sois dignos herederos. No dejéis que todo este sufrimiento sea en vano.”

Then He told them secret things concerning the Rule of God, and how men should be freed from trouble, distress and pain. He explained how each man could be freed of all sickness and see beyond the range of the eye. These and many other things were explained, and also many things concerning the Dominion of the Spirit.

Entonces Él les contó cosas secretas concernientes a la Ley De Dios, y cómo los hombres serían liberados del dolor, tristeza y penas. Explicó cómo cada hombre sería liberado de toda enfermedad y vería más allá del alcance de sus ojos. Estas y otras muchas cosas fueron explicadas y  también muchas respecto al Dominio del Espíritu.

He said, “Follow My teachings, and the power of the Holy Spirit will come to you, enabling you to do many great things causing wonder among others. Yet all these are the rightful possessions of men, if they will but establish their worthiness.

Él dijo, “Seguid mis enseñanzas y el poder del Espíritu Santo vendrá a vosotros, capacitándoos para hacer grandes cosas que causarán admiración entre los demás. Aunque todas estas cosas son posesiones legales de los hombres, con que ellos quieran establecer su fidelidad.

“Think not that God will descend from Heaven to do the work of men. The world is yours, but life is with God; in the end, there is the accounting. Man must be responsible for his own destiny, so seek no divine intervention while men remain apathetic. God comes to the aid only of those who strive, who surmount the difficulties and obstacles of life.”

“No penséis que Dios descenderá de los Cielos a hacer el trabajo de los hombres. El mundo es vuestro, pero la vida está con Dios; al final, existe un rendimiento de cuentas. El hombre debe ser responsable de su propio destino, así que no busque la intervención divina, mientras los hombres permanezcan apáticos. Dios viene a ayudar sólo a los que luchan, que superan las dificultades y obstáculos de la vida.”

Having said these things, Jesus revealed Himself to them in His form of glory, so they might know Truth had been established in Him. Then they were all bedazzled and astonished at what man could become and the extent of his powers awaiting development. Then they knew Jesus was all He claimed to be and hailed Him as Christ, the Anointed by God. For in Him the Spirit of Christ was manifested as in no other.

Habiendo dicho estas cosas, Jesús se les reveló en Su forma de gloria, para que pudieran saber que la verdad había sido establecida en Él. Entonces ellos quedaron deslumbrados y admirados ante lo que el hombre podría ser y el alcance de sus poderes que esperaban su desarrollo. Entonces ellos supieron que Jesús era todo lo que Él declaraba ser y le aclamaron como Cristo, El Señalado por Dios. Porque en él el Espíritu de Cristo se manifestaba como en ningún otro.

After this, Jesus left.

Después de esto, Jesús se fué

Now, rumors of strange events came to the ears of certain Jews who were Herodians and Sadducees. Then they were exceedingly angry with those in power who had inclined towards Joseph, the wise Commander. He said to those who raised their voices against him, “Why do you seek to stir up trouble? Those in high places, holding positions of power, did only what they thought best and complied with the law. What else could they do? I received the body of my kinsman because this was my duty, and I dealt with it decently, letting it rest in my private tomb over the Sabbath.”

Ahora bien, el rumor de extraños sucesos llegó a oídos de ciertos Judíos que eran Herodianos y Saduceos. Entonces se pusieron excesivamente enfadados con los que ejercían el poder que se habían inclinado hacia José, el sabio Comandante. Él dijo a los que levantaban sus voces contra él, “Por qué estáis buscando problemas? Los que ocupan altos lugares, ostentando posiciones de poder, sólo hicieron lo que ellos creyeron lo mejor y de acuerdo con la ley. Qué tendrían que haber hecho? Yo recibí el cuerpo de mi familiar porque este era mi deber, y le traté decentemente, dejándolo descansar en mi tumba privada durante el Sabbath.”

Despite his authority, there was evidence against Joseph, and he was imprisoned, being kept under constant guard. One Sabbath, during the night hours, the Spirit of Jesus was projected to Joseph so he was comforted. But the guards, seeing it, fainted with fear.

A pesar de su autoridad, había evidencia contra José, y él estaba impresionado, teniendo que permanecer bajo una guardia constante. Un Sabbath, durante las horas nocturnas, el Espíritu de Jesús se proyectó ante José para que fuera confortado.. Pero los guardias, al verlo, se desmayaron de miedo.

Then Joseph was brought before Pontius Pilate, but the Governor found no fault in him, and he was released.

Entonces José fue llevado ante Poncio Pilatos, pero el Gobernador no encontró falta en él, y fue liberado.

Later, Annas and his son-in-law, who were then the High Priests of Jewry, came to the house of Joseph, bringing with them the Holy Books written on scrolls within their box. They requested that he swear upon it in the sacred name of Aweh, but he made oath only that he had done no wrong or broken no law.

The wise Commander remained in his house for many days, after which he went about unmolested.

Más tarde, Annas y su yerno, que era entonces el Gran Sacerdote de los Judíos, llegó a la casa de José, llevando con él los Libros Sagrados escritos en rollos dentro de su caja. Ellos le exigieron que jurara sobre ellos en el sagrado Nombre de Aweh, pero él sólo hizo la promesa de que no había hecho nada malo o roto la ley.

El sabio Comandante permaneció en su casa varios días, después de los cuales él pudo salir sin ser molestado.

Then, when Pontius Pilate returned to Rome, Joseph departed from his home shores, coming to Setnadoin, from whence he moved to a well at the foot of a hill. He brought with him a clay cup which had been set in silver by a silversmith, and this was that cup used by Jesus.

Entonces, cuando Poncio Pilatos volvió a Roma, José partió de su tierra patria, llegando a Setnadoin, desde dónde él se dirigió a un pozo al pie de una colina. Llevaba con él una copa de arcilla que había sido bañada en plata por un platero, y esta era la copa usada por Jesús.

Some say Joseph married Holy Mary after the death of his wife, but this is a known heresy put about by those in ignorance of what is written, for his wife was not that Mary.

Algunos dicen que José se casó con Santa María después de la muerte de su esposa, pero esto es una conocida herejía inventada por los que ignoran lo que está escrito, porque su esposa no fué esta María.

Chapter 23 – Capítulo 23

When Jesus spent the days in Jerusalem, the nights were spent on the slopes of Mount Olive. And the disciples built shelters close to a place where there was an oil press.

Cuando Jesús permanecía un tiempo en Jerusalén pasaba las noches en las laderas del Monte de los Olivos. Y los discípulos levantaban un refugio cerca de un lugar en el que había un molino de aceite.

However, one day at eventide, Jesus went to the house of Simon the Pure, where some women who were followers of His were living. Though the disciples were given food, little was said to them; for, they being strangers, the people in the house were suspicious, and Simon lay on a cushion across from Jesus.

Sin embargo, un día al atardecer, Jesús llegó a casa de Simón el Puro, dónde algunas mujeres que eran Sus seguidoras estaban viviendo. Aunque los discípulos habían servido la comida, poco se les había dicho; porque, siendo extranjeros, la gente de la casa era desconfiada, y Simón permanecía en un almuadón frente a Jesús.

After they had eaten and were talking together, a woman came from a house nearby. She was veiled and carried an alabaster jar. Now, this was Mary of Magdala, whose father had been a merchant, but he disowned her, for she had lived with a centurion serving in the army of Rome. When he returned to his lawful wife, Mary had kept herself by singing in the taverns of Galilee.

Después de que habían comido y estaban hablando juntos, una mujer llegó desde una casa cerca. Se cubría con un velo y llevaba una jarra de alabastro. Bien, esta era María de Magdala, cuyo padre había sido un comerciante, pero la había desheredado, porque ella había vivido con un centurión que servía en el ejército de Roma. Cuando él volvió con su esposa legal, María se mantenía a sí misma cantando en las tabernas de Galilea.

The woman unsealed the jar and poured a sweet-scented oil over the head of Jesus, seeing which some of those present were indignant, saying, “What a waste, when this could have been sold for a lot of money which would have benefited the poor.”

La mujer destapó la jarra y extendió un dulce y oloroso aceite sobre la cabeza de Jesús, viendo que alguno de los presentes estaban indignados, diciendo, “¡Qué despilfarro!, cuando eso podría haber sido vendido por un montón de dinero que hubiera beneficiado a los pobres.

Jesus said, “Leave her alone. There is little point in being angry with her when all she has done is to honor Me. You can help the poor whenever you like, but I will not be here much longer.”

Jesús dijo, Dejadla sola. Es una pequeñez enfadarse con ella cuando todo lo que ha hecho ha sido por agasajarme. Vosotros podéis socorrer a los pobres en cualquier momento, pero yo ya no estaré aquí mucho tiempo”

Turning to Mary of Magdala, He said, “Why do you pay Me this honor? For the cost to you must have been great.”

Someone said, “The price was easily obtained.”

Mary said to Jesus, “Sire, I am she whom You saw in Paneas, for when women reviled me, I came to You and said, ‘Forgive my sins.’ When You asked wherein I had sinned, I said, ‘By loving while unwed.’ Thereupon You said, ‘That of itself is no wrongdoing and demonstrates greater love than that of many who say, “The price of my love is marriage.”’ You said I gave the greatest form of love any woman can give, for, being virgin, I went to my love without the security of marriage, seeking in no way to bind the man.”

Jesus said, “With this man you did no wrong, and though your love was unblessed in the eyes of men, providing you loved truly, it was pure and sanctified in the sight of God. The man, however, is not without sin in this manner and will surely be called to a proper accounting. And though since leaving him you have done wrong, he bears his portion of the guilt. You chose freely not to be a woman reserved for marriage - a choice you could rightly make. Only should you now seek marriage, saying, ‘Though I love you too, now I have my price,’ would you be doing wrong, this being committed against God, love and your husband.”

Jesús dijo, “Con ese hombre tú no hiciste nada malo, y por causa de tu amor has sido ultrajada a los ojos de los hombres, entregando tu amor sin falsedad, éste ha sido puro y santificado a los ojos de Dios. El hombre, sin embargo, no es inocente de la misma manera y seguramente será llamado en su momento a rendir cuentas. Y aunque desde que lo amaste tú hayas obrado mal, él tiene su parte de culpa. Tú eliges libremente no ser una mujer reservada al matrimonio -una elección que podrías haber hecho legalmente. Sólo si obtuvieras ahora un matrimonio, diciendo, ‘Puesto que te amo demasiado, ahora tengo mi precio’, tú estarías realizando un acto malo, siendo esto ejecutado contra Dios, contra el amor y contra tu esposo.”

Mary said, “Sire, I have been a sinner but have not sinned this last year, nor shall I again. Should I love once more, I will not now claim the rights of marriage which I once repudiated.”

María dijo, “Señor, yo he sido una pecadora pero no he pecado durante el último año, ni lo haré nunca. Si amara una vez más, no reclamaré ahora los derechos de matrimonio que una vez rechacé”.

Jesus said, “Love is a blending of spirits, and not a union of flesh. Woe to those whose love compounds discord in the place where love is fulfilled. If these things confound you, read the Books of Wisdom.”

Jesús dijo, “El amor es una mezcla de espíritus, y no una unión de la carne. Maldición para aquellos cuyo amor fomenta la discusión en el lugar en que el amor se siente realizado. Si estas cosas os confunden, leed los Libros de Sabiduría.”

During this time, those in positions of power were taking counsel as to how they might take Jesus by guile and deliver Him to the Romans. For they feared a rising of the people during the Great Festival of the Jews.

Durante este tiempo, los que estaban en posiciones de poder buscaban la mejor forma de coger a Jesús con astucia y entregarle a los Romanos. Porque tenían miedo de un levantamiento popular durante la Gran Fiesta de los Judíos.

Now, Judas Iscaroth, son of Simon, who had followed Joseph the Just before coming to Jesus and becoming one of the twelve envoys, sought for the Chosen One Who would deliver the Jews. This he now believed to be another, not Jesus; and he therefore sought to have Jesus held during the festival. Judas, unlike the other envoys, was a Judean; therefore he was unrestricted.

Pues bien, Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, que había seguido a José el Justo antes de acudir a Jesús y convertirse en uno de los doce enviados, buscaba al Elegido Que liberaría a los Judíos. Judas went to the Council and said, “My Master performs signs and fulfills prophecies which speak to the hearts of the people. Therefore, might they not proclaim Him in the coming days?”

The Council said, “The people are ripe for revolt, and troublemakers are many. We will take this One also. Reveal Him to us, and we will hold Him. And for the service you will be paid in silver.”

One who sat in the Council sent a warning to Jesus, saying, “Leave Bethena and go to Ephraim.” But Jesus returned a reply which said, “Things are as they should be, and the prophecies will be fulfilled.”

Uno de los que estaban en el Consejo mandó un aviso a Jesús, diciendo, “Deja Bethena y vete a Ephraim”. Pero Jesús mandó una contestación que decía, “Las cosas son como deben ser, y las profecías serán cumplidas.”

On the first day of the Festival, when lambs were being sacrificed, the disciples came to Jesus and asked where the Passover meal should be eaten. Jesus chose two of these and sent them away with this instruction: “Go down and cross the stream flowing eastward from the city, at a place where there is a covered well. There you will see a man seated with a water pitcher beside him. Say to this man, ‘We thirst but need more than water.’ He will then arise, saying nothing, and you must follow him at a distance. And when you see him enter a house, go in also, giving this message to the owner: ‘We come from the Master.’ He will then show you a room where you must make preparations.”

En el primer día del Festival, cuando los corderos estaban siendo sacrificados, los discípulos llegaron a Jesús y preguntaron dónde comerían la cena de Pascua, Jesús eligió a dos de ellos y los mandó por delante con estas instrucciones; “ Bajad y cruzad el río que fluye hacia el este de la ciudad, al lugar dónde hay un pozo cubierto. Allí veréis un hombre sentado con un cántaro de agua junto a él. Decid a este hombre: ‘Estamos sedientos pero necesitamos más que agua ‘ El entonces se levantará, sin decir nada, y vosotros debéis seguirlo a distancia. Y cuando le veáis entrar en una casa, entrad también, dando este mensaje al dueño: ‘Venimos del Maestro’. El entonces os enseñará una habitación donde debéis hacer los preparativos”.

Now, the house belonged to Obed, who was nigh four score years of age, whose brother was Barnabas the Elder. In an upper room, the disciples prepared the Passover meal. And when it was evening, Jesus came with the twelve envoys and three others, but only thirteen ate with Him.

Pues bien, la casa pertenecía a Obed, que estaba cerca de los ochenta años de edad, cuyo hermano era Bernabé el Mayor. En una habitación superior, los discípulos prepararon la comida de Pascua. Y cuando llegó la tarde, Jesús llegó con los doce enviados y otros tres, pero sólo trece comieron con él.

After He had taken His place at the table and all were seated, Jesus said, “I have very much wanted to keep this Passover with you because it is the last before My ordeal. And I tell you, I will not share another with you until My purpose is fulfilled.”

Después de haber ocupado Su lugar en la mesa y todos estaban sentados, Jesús dijo, “Yo he esperado mucho celebrar esta Pascua con vosotros porque es la última antes de Mi calvario. Y Yo os digo, no compartiré otro con vosotros hasta que Mi propósito sea cumplido.”

Then He took the cup before Him and drank, saying, “Blood is the life of men, while this is the life of the grape sacrificed for men, so it is a fitting and worthy symbol of He Who offers His life for men. I will not taste wine again until the Rule of God is established.”

Entonces cogió la copa que tenía delante y bebió, diciendo, “La sangre es la vida de los hombres, mientras que esto es la vida de la uva sacrificada por los hombres, así que es un apropiado y completo símbolo del Que ofrece su vida por los hombres. No volveré a probar vino de nuevo hasta que la Ley de Dios sea establecida.”

He then passed the cup to John, and, taking the bread, He gave thanks and broke it, saying, “This represents My body, which will be broken as an example to the sons and daughters of men; for all must freely sacrifice for others. As you eat of the bread which is sacrifice, so shall you eat the Bread of Eternal Life. For without sacrifice, there is no life. Henceforth, call it Remembrance Bread and Remembrance Wine; when meeting afterwards, do this and remember Me. But remember also the sacrifices which must be made for the cause of God.”

Entonces Él pasó la copa a Juan, y, cogiendo el pan, dio gracias y lo partió, diciendo, “Esto representa Mi cuerpo,, que será roto como un ejemplo para los hijos y las hijas de los hombres; porque todos deben sacrificarse libremente por los demás. Como vosotros coméis del pan que es un sacrificio, así comeréis el Pan de la Vida Eterna. Porque sin sacrificio no existe la vida. A partir de ahora, llamarlo el Pan del Recuerdo y el Vino del Recuerdo; cuando os reunáis después de esto, hacelo y recordadme. Pero recordad también los sacrificios que deben ser hechos por la causa de Dios.”

Jesus said, “The sacrifice is ready. The hand of the betrayer rests upon this table and dips in the bowl. But this is as it should be. Take the cup and drink again; let it seal a new covenant signed with the blood of One Who is dedicated to the cause of men and their salvation from darkness into life eternal.”

Jesús dijo, “El sacrificio está dispuesto. La mano del traidor está sobre la mesa y moja sus dedos en el cuenco. Pero esto es como debe ser. Coged la copa y bebed otra vez; esto sella un nuevo convenio firmado con la sangre de El Que se ha dedicado a la causa de los hombres y su salvación de la oscuridad a la vida eterna.”

Those about the table began to speculate among themselves as to who would do such a thing. But Jesus bid them be silent, saying, “There is no evil lacking some seeds of goodness which, if extracted, can be nurtured into great trees. A man, finding his storebag of seed grain is moldy, does not throw it out, but searches to find the good grains; and from these he grows a crop which ripens to goodness.”

Los que estaban en la mesa empezaron a especular entre ellos mismos sobre quién haría tal cosa. Pero Jesús intentó mantenerles en silencio, diciendo, “No hay pecado que carezca de cierta semilla de bondad que, si es extraída, puede ser convertida en un gran árbol. Un hombre, encontrando su saco de semillas de grano mohoso, no se deshizo de él, sino que buscó encontrar los granos buenos; y de estos brotó un maíz que maduró perfectamente.”

They then began disputing among themselves as to who was first in precedence among them. And Jesus said, “Those with worldly authority derive satisfaction from declaring themselves benefactors of the people, but the benefit they seek is that accruing to themselves. Let this not be so among you, the ones seeking least for themselves and giving most being those taking precedence.”

Entonces empezaron a discutir entre ellos sobre quién era el primero en precedencia entre ellos. Y Jesús dijo, “Los que con la autoridad mundana encuentran satisfacción en declararse a sí mismos benefactores del pueblo, pero los beneficios que persiguen son los que les benefician. No les dejéis permanecer entre vosotros, los que miran menos para sí mismos y dan la mayor parte estos son los que tendrán la precedencia.”

After a while, Jesus said, “My friends, I shall be with you only a short time now.” Peter said, “Sire, where do You go? Are You deserting us? Can we not come with You?”

Después de un rato, Jesús dijo, “Amigos míos, Yo estaré con vosotros sólo un corto tiempo ya”. Pedro dijo, “Señor, a dónde vas? Nos vas a abandonar? No podemos ir contigo?”

Jesus said, “You cannot follow Me immediately on this path, and to accompany Me would serve no purpose. But later on you can follow Me. Do not become fainthearted, for if you believe in what I have taught you, believe also that I will be guided and strengthened.

Jesús dijo, Vosotros no podéis seguirme inmediatamente en este camino y acompañarme no tendría propósito. Pero más tarde podéis seguirme. No seáis pusilánimes, porque si creéis en lo que Yo os he enseñado, también creéis que yo seré guiado y fortalecido.

“I shall prepare a place for you in the Kingdom of God and wait there to welcome you. Where I will be, you shall be also; and where you are, there too I will be. You know the way to where I am going and can follow, for the law and the Books of Wisdom are the Way, the Truth and the Light. I have brought you a light to show the way; follow it and you will not go astray.

“Yo prepararé un lugar para vosotros en el Reino de Dios y esperaré allí para daros la bienvenida. Dónde Yo estaré, vosotros estaréis también; y dónde vosotros estéis, allí estaré también Yo. Yo conozco el camino hacia dónde voy y puedo seguir, porque la ley y los Libros de Sabiduría son el Camino, la Verdad y la Luz. Yo os he traído una luz para señalar el camino; seguidlo y no lo perdáis.

“Later you will understand that I am united with the Father. And as I am united with Him, so you are united with Me. Though we are many, let us stand as one. And those who serve I will serve.

Más tarde comprenderéis que Yo estoy unido con el Padre. Y como Yo estoy unido con Él, así vosotros estaréis unidos conmigo. Aunque somos muchos, permaneced como uno. Y a los que sirven, Yo serviré.

“To he who believes in My teachings I will manifest. For what I do is done to prove to men My own convictions, that they will come to accept My teachings and follow the road of salvation. The people yearn for the fulfillment of the prophecies and will surely follow One Who fulfills them.”

“Al que crea en Mis enseñanzas Yo me manifestaré. Porque lo que Yo hago es hecho para probar a los hombres Mi propia convicción de que ellos aceptarán mis enseñanzas y seguirán el camino de salvación. El pueblo anhela el cumplimiento de las profecías y seguirá Al Que las cumple”

Thomas said, “Are You going to manifest only to us?”

Tomás dijo, “Te vas a manifestar sólo a nosotros?”

Jesus answered, “If anyone care for Me and My cause, I will speak to him through the power of the Holy Spirit, and it will come to him also. Those who do not care for Me or My cause will ignore My teachings, but do not fear them. Be on guard against those who pay lip service only. While I am with you, I can speak as men speak; but when I am gone, the Holy Spirit will bear messages in My name, clarifying your minds so you recall all I have taught you.

Jesús contestó, “ Si alguien presta atención a Mí y a Mi causa, Yo le hablaré por el poder del Espíritu Santo, y éste vendrá también a él. Los que no se preocupan de Mí o de Mi causa ignorarán Mis enseñanzas, pero no les temáis. Estad en guardia contra los que prestan sólo servicio con los labio. Mientras Yo estoy con vosotros, puedo hablar como los hombres; pero cuando Me haya ido, el Espíritu Santo llevará los mensajes en Mi nombre, clarificando vuestros pensamientos para que repitáis todo lo que Yo os he enseñado.

“In the Kingdom of the Spirit there are many splendid places, and I assure those who remain steadfast that they will be in the best of these. For when men die, each is drawn to the place whereof he is worthy; even to each one is prepared a place for his soul.

“En el Reino del Espíritu hay muchos lugares maravillosos, y yo aseguro a los que permanezcan firmes que ellos estarán en el mejor de ellos. Porque cuando los hombres mueren, cada uno es llevado al lugar al que corresponde; incluso para cada uno hay preparado un lugar para su alma.

“I will go down in the flesh to arise again in the spirit with power to manifest to men. I will demonstrate what man can do; and as I do, so can all men. I am a sacrifice to the misguided beliefs of men, that, in the fulfillment of those beliefs, they might turn to the path of their salvation.

“Yo moriré en el cuerpo para levantarme de nuevo en espíritu con poder para manifestarme a los hombres. Demostraré lo que el hombre puede hacer; e igual que Yo hago, así pueden hacer todos los hombres. Yo soy un sacrificio por las creencias desviadas de los hombres, para que, en el cumplimiento de estas creencias, puedan volver al camino de su salvación.

“I am the Vine, and He Who is above Me is the Cultivator; you are the branches, and the sap in Me flows out to you. The sap is My teachings, severed from which you will be like a branch cut from the vine, only suitable for burning. I am the Vine, and you are its fruit; and if the vine is sound, surely its fruit will be sound also.

“Yo soy el Vino, y El Que está sobre Mí es el Agricultor; vosotros sois las ramas, y la savia que hay en Mí fluye hacia vosotros. La savia son mis enseñanzas, de las que separados, seréis como una rama cortada de la cepa, que sólo sirve para quemar. Yo soy el Vino, y vosotros sois sus frutos; y si el vino es sonido, con seguridad sus frutos sonarán también.

“This is My last instruction to you: Love one another as I have loved you. For there is but one greater love than that of a man who would sacrifice his life for his friends, and that is sacrifice of a life for a cause where he serves those unknown to him. I have said, ‘Love one another,’ for you will be strengthened in the knowledge of that love.

Esta es Mi última recomendación para vosotros: Amaos los unos a los otros como yo os he amado. Porque sólo hay un amor más grande que el de un hombre que sacrificaría su vida por sus amigos, y este es el sacrificio de una vida por una causa en la que se sirve a los que no le conocen. Yo he dicho, ‘Amaos uno a otro’, porque seréis fortalecidos en el conocimiento de este amor.

“If the world hates you, it has hated Me first. If you were to remain part of the world, it would accept you as its own and love you. But because I have severed you from the world, setting you apart, it will hate you. For it is in the nature of worldly men to hate those who are different. And not only are you different, you also seek to point out their wickedness.

“Si el mundo os odia, me odia a Mí primero. Si vosotros seguís siendo parte del pueblo, éste os acepta como su igual y os ama. Pero puesto que Yo os he separado del mundo, permaneciendo aparte, éste os odiará. Porque está en la naturaleza de los hombres terrestres odiar a los que son diferentes. Y vosotros no sólo sois diferentes, sino que también señaláis su maldad.

“If I chose an easier path, your burden would be so much greater, and the fruit of the vine might fall on barren ground. As they have persecuted Me, so they would have persecuted you. As they have spurned My teachings, so they would have spurned yours. And as they rejected Me, so they would have rejected you.

“Si Yo elijo un camino más fácil, vuestra carga podría ser mucho mayor, y el fruto del vino podría caer en suelo árido. Como ellos Me han perseguido, así os querrían haber perseguido . Como ellos han refutado Mis enseñanzas, así querrán haber refutado las vuestras. Y como ellos Me han rechazado, así querrán rechazaros a vosotros.

“I have much more to say, but you cannot receive it now. Later, the Spirit of Enlightenment will come when you are ready and guide you truthfully. It will speak to you with a voice of its own, but will convey to you what comes from above. Soon now you will see Me no more in the flesh, but you will behold Me in a new and glorious form.”

“Yo tengo mucho más que decir, pero ahora no podéis recibirlo. Más tarde, el Espíritu de la Iluminación vendrá cuando estéis preparados y os guiará verdaderamente. Os hablará con su propia voz pero os convencerá de que viene de arriba. Dentro de poco no me veréis más en cuerpo, sino que Me contemplaréis en una nueva y gloriosa forma.”

Those with Jesus did not understand the meaning of what He said, and discussed it among themselves, saying, “What does He mean by ‘soon’?” Others said, “What can He mean when He says, ‘Soon you will no longer see Me, but then you will behold Me’?” The others said, “We just cannot tell.”

Los que estaban con Jesús no comprendían el significado de lo que Él decía, y discutían entre ellos, diciendo, “Qué quiere decir con “pronto”. Otros decían, “Qué quiere significar cuando dice, ‘Pronto no Me veréis más, pero después me contemplaréis’?” Los otros decían, “No podemos decirlo”

Jesus, knowing what they were saying and what was in their thoughts, said, “You are wondering about the things I have said. I can assure you that while you sorrow, the world will rejoice, for its hopes are fulfilled. A woman becomes afraid just before she gives birth, but once the ordeal is over, she no longer recalls the labor pains but rejoices in her child. So too you will grieve for a while, but I will manifest to you, and then you will rejoice in your hearts.

Jesús, sabiendo lo que ellos estaban diciendo y lo que tenían en su pensamiento, dijo, “Estáis desconcertados por las cosas que he dicho. Puedo aseguraros que mientras vosotros sufrís, el mundo se regocijará, porque sus esperanzas son cumplidas. Una mujer se asusta con razón antes de dar a luz, pero una vez la tarea está acabada, ella ya no recuerda los dolores del parto, sino que se regocija en su hijo. Así también estáis asustados por un tiempo, pero yo Me manifestaré a vosotros, y entonces os regocijaréis en vuestros corazones.

“The Father’s will is that the things I teach should be given to the people, but they will not listen, arguing among themselves as to who I am. Therefore, I must drain the bitter cup of life to its last dregs. Then they will say, ‘This is He,’ and heed My words. This I do for men, and none can say I have not faced up to the tests of life or I have shirked its supreme trial.”

“Es la voluntad del Padre que las cosas que Yo enseño sean dadas al pueblo, pero ellos no quieren escuchar, discutiendo entre ellos mismos sobre quién soy Yo. Por lo tanto, debo apurar la copa ácida de la vida hasta sus últimos posos. Después ellos dirán, ‘Este es Él’, y escucharán mis palabras. Esto Yo lo hago por los hombres, y nadie puede decir que no he afrontado las pruebas de la vida o he superado su obstáculo supremo”.

The disciples then drank the reeling cup, and Jesus said to Peter, “I depend upon you to carry the burden among the brethren.”

Entonces los discípulos bebieron pasándose la copa y Jesús dijo a Pedro, “Yo te impongo el llevar el peso entre los hermanos.”

Peter said, “Sire, I am ready to go anywhere, to follow You to prison or even to death.”

Pedro dijo, “Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir a cualquier sitio, a seguirte a prisión e incluso a morir”

Jesus said, “Before the cock’s crow in the morning, even you, the most loyal of men, will desert Me. Must I undergo the ordeal friendless?”

Jesús dijo, “Antes del canto del gallo en la mañana, incluso tú, el más leal de los hombres, renegarás de Mí. Debo sufrir mi destino sin amigos?”

Then all the others assured Him of their loyalty.

Entonces todos los demás Le aseguraron su lealtad.

Jesus said, “When I sent you out with few possessions, did you ever go short of anything?” They said, “No.”

Jesús dijo, “Cuando Yo os mandé con pocas posesiones, os hice ir faltos de algo?” Ellos dijeron, “No”.

Jesus then said, “Things are different now. Those who have a purse of money had better take it with them and keep a pack prepared for flight. Whoever is without a sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one. For I can assure you I will fulfill all that the Holy Books say. And is it not written, ‘He was classified as an outlaw’? Yes, truly all that is written will be fulfilled in Me, and men will find salvation through this fulfillment.”

Jesús entonces dijo, “Ahora las cosas son diferentes. Los que tienen una bolsa de dinero harían bien en cogerla con ellos y dejar un paquete preparado para huir. Cualquiera que esté sin espada, dejadle vender su capa y comprar una. Porque Yo puedo aseguraos que cumpliré todo lo que los Libros Sagrados dicen. Y acaso no está escrito, ‘Él fue considerado como un malhechor’? Sí, en verdad todo lo que está escrito se cumplirá en Mí, y los hombres encontrarán la salvación a través de este cumplimiento.”

One of the disciples said, “Look, Sire. We have two swords among us.” Jesus said, “That is sufficient.”

Uno de los discípulos dijo, “Mira, Señor, tenemos dos espadas entre nosotros.” Jesús dijo, “Eso es suficiente”.

Peter said, “Sire, are You going to lead us against the kingdom of evil in arms?”

Pedro dijo, “Señor, nos vas a guiar Tú contra el reino del mal con armas?”

Jesus said, “The battle is for the immortal souls of men. Feast your eyes on Me, for the hour draws near when I shall no longer be with you in body.”

Jesús dijo, “La batalla es por el alma inmortal de los hombres. Alegrad vuestros ojos en Mí, porque la hora se acerca en que Yo ya no estaré con vosotros en cuerpo.”

Then He said to Judas, “Go, spend whatever money is needful, but make haste.” No man there understood the meaning of this saying.

Entonces Él dijo a Judas, “ Ve, gasta cualquier dinero que sea necesario, pero hazlo deprisa.” Nadie allí entendió el significado de estas palabras.

When Judas had gone, Jesus said, “Upon Me has fallen the obligation for fulfilling the hopes of men. Now I give you a last command: Stand by one another. For if you remain loyal to My cause and to each other, all will know you are true men of God. Do not worry overmuch; have faith in the goodness of God and in Me. In the Kingdom of Heaven there are many places, and had it been otherwise, I would have told you. I go first and will prepare a compatible place for all who are with us.

Cuando Judas se fue, Jesús dijo, “Sobre Mí ha caído la obligación del cumplimiento de las esperanzas de los hombres. Ahora os doy una última recomendación: Permaneced juntos uno a otro. Porque si seguís leales a Mi causa y cada uno a otro, todos sabrán que sois verdaderos hombres de Dios. No os asustéis demasiado; tened fe en la bondad de Dios y en Mí. En el Reino de los Cielos hay muchos lugares, y si fuera de otra forma, os lo habría dicho. Yo voy el primero y prepararé un lugar apropiado para todos los que están con nosotros.

“Do not fear because of the destruction of the body. Remember all I have told you. But be staunch and steadfast, for as they have persecuted Me, so will they persecute you. Remember, I have overcome the fears of the flesh; this is My conquest. I will now reveal the secret of My glory: It is dedication to service. And that glory is the heritage of all men.”

No temáis por la destrucción del cuerpo. Recordad todo lo que os he dicho. Pero estad alerta y dispuestos, porque como ellos Me han perseguido, así os perseguirán. Recordad, yo he superado los miedos del cuerpo; esta es mi conquista. Ahora os revelaré el secreto de Mi gloria: Este es la dedicación al servicio. Y esta gloria es la herencia de todos los hombres.”

When they had finished, Jesus went out with His followers and, passing over the stream of Kedron, went to a place called Gethsemane because of an oil press there. He took eleven, as Markus the Judean, who was a priest, did not go, Peter being jealous of him. This Markus had been a follower of John of the Wilderness and was a friend of Judas.

Cuando hubieron finalizado, Jesús salió con Sus seguidores y, pasando sobre el arroyo de Kedron, llegó a un lugar llamado Gethsemane a causa de un molino de aceite que había. Él llevó a once, como Marcos el Judeo, que era sacerdote, no fue, Pedro estaba celoso de él. Este Marcos había sido un seguidor de Juan del Desierto y era amigo de Judas.

When Jesus departed with the eleven, Markus did not return to his mother’s house in Ophal, but stayed with Lazarus and the others. After Jesus had gone, men came to take Him, and Markus, snatching a cloak, dashed out to warn Jesus.

Cuando Jesús partió con los once, Marcos no volvió a casa de su madre en Ophal, sino que permaneció con Lázaro y los otros. Después de que Jesús se había ido, unos hombres llegaron a cogerle, y Marcos, robando una capa, salió corriendo a avisar a Jesús.

Though knowing what should be done for the Chosen One, Judas went to the captain of the Temple guard and said, “I am one of those who follow Jesus the Galilean, but I fear what He intends to bring about. Therefore, let Him be held as the Council has decreed.”

Sin embargo conociendo lo que haría el Elegido, Judas fue al capitán de la guardia del Templo y dijo, “Yo soy uno de los que siguen a Jesús el Galileo, pero me da miedo lo que Él intenta llevar a cabo. Por lo tanto, cogedle como el Consejo ha decidido”

When Jesus reached the chosen spot in Gethsemane, He turned and said to those with Him, “Pray that you may be spared the test.”

Cuando Jesús llegó al lugar elegido en Gethsemane, Se volvió y dijo a los que estaban con Él, “Rezad para que podáis superar la prueba”

He then took Peter, James and John and withdrew with them about a stone’s throw away. Jesus was depressed and filled with foreboding. And He said to the three, “I am going apart to pray for strength to do what must be done. You stay here and keep watch. Perhaps the cup of bitterness will pass Me by, for with the Father all things are possible. But I fear there is no other way for me but to abide My destiny.”

Después Él cogió a Pedro, Santiago y Juan y se retiró con ellos a una distancia de un tiro de piedra. Jesús estaba deprimido y lleno de premoniciones. Y les dijo a los tres, “Me he venido aparte para pedir fortaleza para hacer lo que debo hacer. Estad aquí y manteneos despiertos. Tal vez la copa de acidez pasará de Mí, porque con el Padre todas las cosas son posibles. Pero me temo que no hay otra forma para mí sino soportar Mi destino.”

Jesus went just a short distance and lifted His face to the stars and red-glowing moon above. James heard Him pray, “Father, everything is in Your hand. Let it not be as I would have it, but according to Your will; I leave it in Your hand. But let not the ordeal be too much for Me. The hour is at hand. Strengthen the Son Whom You have glorified with the power of Your Spirit, that He may bring to fruition the task You have set Him, leading men to the path of eternal life. Is there no other way?”

Jesús fue a corta distancia y levantando su cara a las estrellas y la luna que resplandecía rojiza arriba, Santiago le oyó rezar, “Padre, todo está en Tus manos. No dejes que sea lo que yo quisiera, sino de acuerdo con Tu voluntad; Yo me entrego en Tus manos, pero no dejes que el destino sea demasiado para Mí. La hora ha llegado. Fortalece al Hijo a Quien Tú has glorificado con el poder de Tu espíritu, que pueda llevar al éxito la tarea que Tú Le has impuesto, conduciendo a los hombres al camino de la vida eterna, No hay otra forma?”

He then came back to the three, and the sweat stood out redly on His brow. And finding two asleep, for they were heavy with wine, He said to Peter, “Simon, could you not stay awake even at a time such as this? Be vigilant and watch, praying you may be spared a greater test.

Después Él volvió a los tres, y y el sudor fluía como rojo en su frente. Y encontrando dos dormidos, porque habían bebido muchos, él dijo a Pedro, “Simón, no puedes estar despierto siquiera en un momento como este? Estad vigilantes y despiertos, pidiendo que no tengáis que superar una prueba más grande.

“In days to come, men will lift up their eyes to Heaven and say, ‘Blessed was He Who came in the name of God, bringing us the light of salvation.’ My soul is very sorrowful because of the things I must endure and accomplish, that the aspirations of men shall not be denied a response. Tarry, therefore, a while longer, keeping Me company so I do not weaken. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. It is a dreadful thing I have to do.”

En los próximos días, los hombres elevarán sus ojos a los Cielos y dirán, ‘Bendito era El Que vino en el nombre de Dios, trayéndonos la luz de la salvación”. Mi alma está muy asustada por las cosas que tengo que afrontar y conseguir, que las aspiraciones de los hombres no quedarán sin respuesta. Esperad, sin embargo, durante un rato, haciéndome compañía para que yo no desfallezca. El espíritu está dispuesto,, pero la carne es débil. Es una cosa pavorosa lo que tengo que hacer.”

Then He went away again, but what He prayed no man knows.

Entonces Él se apartó de nuevo, pero lo que rezó nadie lo sabe.

When He returned, all three were asleep, for the wine had befuddled them. Jesus said, “Still sleeping. Now it is enough, for the hour has come, and the Servant of Man is betrayed into the hands of his enemies. Let us wait no longer, for here they come.” Jesus was now quite calm and strengthened.

Cuando Él volvió, los tres estaban dormidos, porque el vino les había aturdido. Jesús dio, “Todavía durmiendo. Ahora ya es suficiente, porque el momento ha llegado, y el Servidor del Hombre es entregado a las manos de sus enemigos. No esperéis ya más, porque aquí llegan.”. Jesús estaba ahora completamente calmado y fortalecido.

Now, the place where Jesus had gone was known to Judas, who arrived accompanied by the Temple guards carrying torches, staves and cudgels.

Seeing them, Jesus stood up and said, “Whom do you seek?” Judas went up to Him and said, “Sire, I am here.”

Ahora bien, el lugar al que había ido Jesús era conocido por Judas, que llegó acompañado por la guardia del Templo llevando antorchas, personal y garrotes.

Al verlos, Jesús se levantó y dijo,, “A quién buscáis?” Judas se acercó a Él y dijo, “Señor, aquí estoy”.

He kissed Jesus to let Him know he came with friendly intentions, but it also identified Him. For though those who came knew Jesus by sight, the law required that some other identify Him. But He was not taken according to the law, but by the Temple guards.

Él besó a Jesús para hacerle saber que venía con intenciones amigables, pero también Le identificó. Porque a pesar de que los que llegaban conocían a Jesús, la ley requería que algún otro Le identificara. Pero Él no fue prendido de acuerdo con la ley, sino por la guardia del Templo.

Jesus said, “So the Chosen One has been selected for sacrifice by a kiss.” But Judas said, “No, Sire; there will be no sacrifice.”

Jesús dijo, “Así el Elegido ha sido seleccionado para el sacrificio por un beso.” Pero Judas dijo, “No, Señor, No será sacrificado.”

When the Temple guards seized hold of Jesus, one with Him drew a sword and wounded one of them. Another said, “Shall we smite with our swords?”

Cuando la guardia del Templo se apoderó de Jesús, uno de los suyos sacó una espada e hirió a uno de ellos. Otros dijeron, “Les golpearemos con nuestras espadas?”

But Jesus forbade this, saying to the captain of the guard, “Were My Kingdom of this world, I would order my followers to take up arms. But My Kingdom is not of this world, and evil cannot be vanquished by evil.”

Pero Jesús se lo impidió, diciendo al capitán de la guardia, “Si Mi Reino fuera de este mundo, podría ordenar a mis seguidores que sacaran las armas. Pero Mi Reino no es de este mundo y el mal no puede ser vencido por el mal.”

He rebuked them with the words, “Did you expect to find a dangerous criminal who had to be overcome with weapons? I have been among you many days, and you left Me alone. Still, what has to be done will be done, so do as you must.”

Él les reprendió con estas palabras, “Esperábais encontrar a un criminal peligros que tendría que ser vencido con las armas? He estado entre vosotros muchos días, y me habéis dejado solo. Así que, qué ha tenido que pasar, para que debáis hacer esto.”?

The captain of the guard said, “If this were left until tomorrow, many would die.”

El capitán de la guardia dijo, “Si esto se dejara para mañana, muchos podrían morir”.
