CHAPTER TWO (Capítulo dos)

THE BIRTH OF MAN (El Nacimiento del Hombre)

The love of God penetrated the third veil and became the Seed of Souls within the Soul Sea. The body of man God made of water and things of the Earth, breathing into him the Spirit of Life, that he might live. But man, when young, lived only to eat and drink and to fornicate, for, being conscious only of the Earth, he knew only earthly things and earthly ways.

El amor de Dios penetró el tercer velo y se convirtió en la Semilla de las Almas en el Alma del Mar. El cuerpo del Hombre lo hizo Dios de agua y materia de la Tierra, insuflando en su interior el Espíritu de Vida, que él debe vivir. Pero el hombre, durante la juventud, vivió sólo para comer, beber y fornicar, porque, siendo sólo consciente de la tierra, sólo conocía las cosas terrenales y las costumbres terrenales.

Now the Spirit of God Moved over the face of the Earth, but was not of the Earth. It held all things and was in all things, but on Earth could not be apart from anything. Without substance it was awake, but entering substance it slept.

Consider that which was told by the servants of Eban, of Heavenman who once wandered the Earth, He had no earthly substance and could not grasp its fruits, for he had no hands. He could not drink its waters, for he had no mouth, nor could he feel the cool winds upon his skin. They tell how the ape tribe Selok, led by Heavenman, perished by flames before the Valley of Lod, Only one she-ape reaching the cave heights above.

Ahora el Espíritu de Dios se movió sobre la faz de la Tierra, pero no era de la terrenal. Mantenía todas las cosas y estaba en todas las cosas, pero en la tierra no se le puede apartar  de nada. Sin sustancia  estaba despierto, pero entrando en la sustancia dormía.

Recordar lo que fue dicho por los sirvientes de Eban, acerca del hombre celestial que antiguamente deambulaba por la Tierra. Él no tenía sustancia terrenal y no podía coger sus frutos, porque no tenía manos. No podía beber de sus aguas, porque no tenía boca, ni podía sentir el viento templado sobre su piel. Ellos cuentan cómo la tribu de monos Selok, 

encabezada   por el Hombre Celestial, pereció por las llamas antes del Valle de Lod. Sólo una hembra-mono subió alcanzando la cueva más alta.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

When Heavenman was reborn of the she-ape in the cavern of Woe, could he taste the fruits of the Earth and drink of her waters, and feel the coolness of her winds? Did he not find life good? It is not all a tale of the courtyard!

Man, created from earthly substance alone, could not know things not of Earth, nor could Spirit alone subdue him. Had man not been created, who would have known God's wisdom and power? As the Spirit fills the body of man, so does God fill His creation.

Cuando el Hombre Celestial fue reencarnado por la hembra-mono en la cueva de Woe, ¿pudo probar los frutos de la Tierra y beber sus aguas y sentir la tibieza de sus vientos? ¿ no encontró una buena vida? No todo es un cuento de corrillo.

El hombre, creado sólo de sustancia terrenal, no puede conocer cosas que no son de la Tierra, ni puede el Espíritu dominarle solo. No ha sido creado el hombre para poder conocer el poder y la sabiduría de Dios?. Igual que el Espíritu llena el cuerpo del hombre, así Dios llena su creación.

Therefore, it was that God saw something had to be which joined Earth and Spirit and was both. In His wisdom and by the creative impulse which governs the Earth, He prepared a body for man, for the body of man is wholly of Earth.

Por consiguiente, así fue que Dios vio que habría que hacer algo para juntar la Tierra y el Espíritu y que existieran ambos. En su sabiduría y creativo impulso que gobierna la Tierra, Él preparó un cuerpo para el hombre, porque el cuerpo del hombre es enteramente de Tierra (terrestre)

Behold, the great day came when the Spirit, which is God, was joined with the beast, which is Earth. Then Earth writhed in the labour of travail. Her mountains rocked back and forth and her seas heaved up and down. Earth groaned in her lands and shrieked in her winds. She cried in the rivers and wept in her storms.

Mirad, el gran día llegó cuando el Espíritu, que es Dios, se unió a la bestia, que es Tierra. Entonces la Tierra se retorció por el esfuerzo del trabajo. Sus montañas se hundieron y desaparecieron y sus mares se movieron arriba y abajo. La Tierra gemía en sus campos y chillaba por sus vientos. Gritó en sus ríos y se inundó por sus tormentas.

So man was born, born of upheaval and strife. He came wretchedly and tumultuously, the offspring of a distraught Earth. All was in discord, snow fell in the hot wastelands, ice covered the fertile plains, the forests became seas. Where once it was hot, now it was cold and where no rain had ever fallen, now there were floods. So man came forth, man the child of calamity, man the inheritor of creative struggle, man the battleground of extremes.

Así nació el hombre, nacido del cataclismo y la contienda. Llegó desgraciada y tumultuosamente, vástago de una tierra demente. Todo estaba al revés, la nieve caía en las calientes tierras baldías, el hielo cubría las fértiles planicies, los bosques se habían convertido en mar. Dónde antes hacía calor, ahora hacía frío y dónde la lluvia no había caído jamás, ahora había una inundación. Así el hombre fue expulsado, hombre hijo de la calamidad, hombre heredero de una lucha creativa, hombre campo de batalla de los extremos.                                                             

Earth nurtured man with cautious affection, weaning him in the recesses of her body. Then, when he was grown sufficiently to be lifted so he walked in the uprightness of God, she took him and raised him above all other creatures. She led him even into the presence of God and she laid him on His Great Altar.

La Tierra nutría al hombre con cauteloso afecto, apartándolo gradualmente de las entrañas de su cuerpo. Entonces, cuando creció lo suficiente para levantarse y así caminar ante la nobleza de Dios, ella le cogió y le elevó sobre todas las demás criaturas. Lo condujo hasta la presencia de Dios y lo colocó sobre Su Gran Altar.

                                                                                   

A man imperfect, of earthly limitations, a thing unfinished, ungainly and unlearned, but proudly was He presented to Earth's Creator. Not her first-born was man, the son of Earth, the grandchild of God, man the heir of tribulation and the pupil of affliction.

Un hombre imperfecto, de limitaciones terrenales, una cosa inacabada, desgarbado e ignorante, pero con orgullo le fue presentado al Creador de la Tierra. El hombre no era su primer parto, el hijo de la Tierra, el nieto de Dios, el hombre heredero de la tribulación y el protegido de la aflicción. 

God saw man, the offering of Earth to her Lord, unconscious on the High Altar, a sacrifice to Him and a dedication to the Spirit of Fate. Then from out of the unfathomable heights and from behind the impenetrable veil, God came down above the Altar and He breathed into man the breath of Eternal Life. Into his sleeping body God implanted a fragment of Himself, the Seed of a Soul and the Spark of Divinity, a man the mortal became man the heir of God and the inheritor of immortality. Henceforth he would have dominion over God's earthly estate, but he also had to unravel the Circles of Eternity, and his destiny was to be an everlasting seeking and striving.

Dios miró al hombre, la ofrenda de la Tierra a su Señor, desmayado sobre el Gran Altar, un sacrificio hacia él y una ofrenda al Espíritu del Hado. Entonces desde las más insondables alturas y desde detrás de un impenetrable velo, Dios bajó sobre el Altar e insufló dentro del hombre el aliento de la Vida Eterna. Dentro de su cuerpo durmiente Dios implantó un fragmento de Sí mismo. La semilla de un Alma y  la chispa de la Divinidad, el hombre mortal se convirtió en el hombre heredero de Dios y el heredero de la inmortalidad. Desde entonces dominaría sobre la herencia terrena de Dios, pero también tendría que desenmarañar los Círculos de la Eternidad y su destino era el ser un perpetuo buscador y luchador

Man slept, but God opened the Great Eye within him and man saw a vision of unsurpassed glory. He heard the voice of God saying,

"O man, in your hand is now placed the tablet of your inheritance, and My seal is upon it. Know that all you desire within your heart may be yours, but first it is necessary that you be taught its value. Behold, the Earth is filled with things of usefulness, they are prepared to your hand for a purpose, but the task is upon you to seek them out and learn their use. This is the tuition for the management of your inheritance."

El hombre dormía, pero Dios abrió el Gran Ojo de su interior y el hombre tuvo una visión de insuperable gloria. Oyó la voz de Dios diciendo:

“ Oh, hombre, en tu mano está ahora el registro de tu herencia, y mi espíritu está sobre él. Sepas que todo lo que desees en tu corazón puede ser tuyo, pero primero es necesario que tú aprendas su valor. Escucha, la Tierra está llena de cosas de utilidad, están preparadas para tus manos con un propósito, es tu responsabilidad buscarlas y aprender su uso. Esta es la enseñanza para el manejo de tu herencia”.  

                                                                                                                                                         "What you know to be good, seek for and it shall be found. You may plumb the seas and pluck the stars. You may live in everlasting glory and savour eternal delights. Above and below and all about there is nothing beyond your reach; all, with one exception, is yours to attain". Then God laid His hand upon man, saying, "Now you are even as I, except you sleep there enclosed in matter in the Kingdom of Illusion, while I dwell here in the freedom of Reality and Truth. It is not for me to come down to you, but for you to reach out to Me."

Man then saw a vision of glory encompassing even the Spheres of Splendour. Unbounded wisdom filled his heart and he beheld beauty in perfection. The ultimate of Truth and Justice were unveiled before him. He became one with the profound peace of eternity and knew the joys of unceasing gladness.

Lo que tú creas que es bueno, búscalo y lo encontrarás. Debes sondear los mares y coger las estrellas. Debes vivir en un eterno deleite de gloria y sabor sempiterno. Arriba y abajo y alrededor no hay nada fuera de tu alcance; Todas las cosas, con una excepción, son tuyas para adquirir conocimientos”. Entonces Dios puso su mano sobre el hombre, diciendo: “ Ahora tú eres casi como yo, excepto que tú duermes ahí enclavado en la materia en el Reino de la Ilusión, mientras yo habito aquí en la libertad de la Realidad y Verdad. Yo no puedo bajar a ti, pero tú puedes llegar a Mí.”

El hombre entonces tuvo una visión de gloria abarcando casi las Esferas de Esplendor.   Una ilimitada sabiduría llenó su corazón y contempló la belleza en toda su perfección. El fundamento de la Verdad y la Justicia se revelaron ante él. El se hizo uno con la profunda paz de la eternidad y conoció la alegría de la felicidad sin fin.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       The eternal ages of time unrolled as a scroll before his eyes, and he saw written thereon all that was to become and occur. The great vaults of Heaven were opened up unto him and he saw the everlasting fires and unconsumable powers that strove therein. He felt within himself the stirring of inexpressible love, and unlimited designs of grandeur filled his thoughts. His spirit ranged unhampered through all the spheres of existence. He was then even as God Himself, and he knew the secret of the Seven Spheres within Three Spheres.

Las eternas edades del tiempo se desplegaron como un papiro ante sus ojos, y vio escritas en ellas todo lo que sucedería y ocurriría. La gran bóveda del cielo se abrió sobre él y vio los fuegos eternos y los poderes sin fin que se afanaban dentro. Sintió dentro de sí mismo la conmoción de un inexpresable amor, e ilimitados designios de grandeza llenaron su pensamiento. Su espíritu se desplegó libre a través de todas las esferas de la existencia. Él era entonces casi como el mismo Dios, y supo el secreto de las Siete Esferas dentro de las Tres Esferas.

Then God lifted His hand from man and man was alone. The great vision departed and he awoke, only a dim and elusive recollection, no more than the shadow of a dream remained. But deep within the sleeping Soul there was a spark of remembrance and it generated within man a restless longing for he knew not what. Henceforth, man was destined to wander discontented, seeking something he felt he knew but could not see, something which continually eluded him, perpetually goaded him, and forever tantalized him. Deep within himself man knew something greater than himself was always with him and part of him, spurring him on to greater deeds, greater thoughts, greater aspirations. It was something out beyond himself, scarcely realized and never found; something which told him that the radiance seen on the horizon but dimly reflected the hidden glory beyond it.

Y entonces Dios retiró su mano del hombre y el hombre estaba solo. La gran visión se borró y él despertó, sólo un fino y elusivo recuerdo, no más que la sombra de un sueño permanecía. Pero dentro del Alma dormida había un resto de recuerdo y producía en el hombre un vivo deseo de no sabía qué. Desde entonces, el hombre fue destinado a buscar descontento, buscando algo que le faltaba, pero  no podría verlo, algo que siempre le eludía, constantemente le incitaba y siempre le atormentaba. En el fondo de sí mismo sabía siempre que había algo más grande que él, con él, parte de él, espoleándole a las mayores hazañas, los más grandes pensamientos, las mayores aspiraciones. Había algo más allá de sí mismo, apenas realizado y nunca encontrado; algo que le decía que el resplandor percibido en el horizonte pero reflejado muy débilmente pertenecía a la oculta gloria.

Man awoke, the revelation and vision gone, only the grim reality of Earth's untamed vastness surrounded him. But when he arose and stepped down onto the bosom of his Mother Earth he was undaunted by the great powers that beset him or by the magnitude of the task ahead. Within his heart he knew destiny lay beyond the squalor of his environment, he stepped out nobly, gladly accepting the challenge.

El hombre despertó, la revelación y la visión se borraron, sólo la desagradable realidad de la indomada vastedad de la Tierra le rodeaba. Pero cuando se levantó y bajó al seno de su madre Tierra iba intrépido por los grandes poderes que le dominaban o animado por la magnitud de la tarea. Dentro de su corazón sabía que el destino se hallaba más allá de la miseria de su alrededor, caminó noblemente, aceptando gustosamente el cambio.

He was now a new man, he was different. He looked above and saw glory in the Heavens. He saw beauty about him and he knew goodness and things not of the Earth. The vision of eternal values arose before his inner eye. His Spirit was responding to its environment, man was now man, truly man.

Ahora era un hombre nuevo, era diferente. Miró hacia arriba y vio gloria en los Cielos. Vio belleza a su alrededor y conoció la bondad y cosas que no eran de la Tierra. La visión de los valores eternos surgió ante sus ojos interiores. Su espíritu estaba respondiendo a su ambiente, el hombre ahora era un hombre, verdaderamente hombre.

The nature of man on Earth was formed after the nature of things in Heaven, and man had all things contained as potential within himself, except divine life. But he was as yet an untrained, undisciplined child, still nurtured simply upon the comforting bosom of Earth.

La Naturaleza del hombre en la Tierra se formó después de la naturaleza de los Cielos y el hombre tenía todas las cosas como potencial dentro de él, excepto vida divina. Pero todavía era rebelde, niño caprichoso, todavía nutrido  solamente por el confortable seno de la Tierra.

Man grew in stature, but Earth was not indulgent, for she disciplined him firmly. She was ever strict and unyielding, chastening him often with blasts of displeasure. It was indeed the upbringing of one destined for greatness; he was made to suffer cold, that he might learn to clothe himself; sent into the barren places, that his limbs should be strengthened, and into forests, that his eye should become keen and his heart strong. He was perplexed with difficult problems and set the task of unraveling the illusions of Nature. He was beset with hardships of every description. He was tested with frustrations and tempted with allurements; never did Earth relax the vigilance of her supervision.

El hombre creció en estatura, pero la Tierra no era indulgente, para disciplinarle de forma firme. A veces era severa e inflexible, castigándole a menudo con ráfagas de infortunio. Era verdaderamente la educación de alguien destinado a la grandeza; se le hacía sufrir frío para que tuviera que aprender a  vestirse él solo, llegaba a sitios estériles, para que sus piernas se fortalecieran, y dentro de los bosques, para que sus ojos se hicieran agudos y su corazón fuerte. Estaba confuso con los problemas difíciles y acometía la  tarea de desenmarañar las ilusiones de la Naturaleza. Era acosado con penas de todas clases. Fue probado con frustraciones y tentado con alicientes; Nunca relajó la Tierra la vigilancia de su supervisión.

The child was raised sternly, for he needed the fortitude, courage and cunning of a man, to fit him for the task ahead. He grew wily and wiry in the hunt; he became adaptable, able to cope with any untoward happening. Overcoming the bewilderments of early days he found explanations for the perplexities of his surroundings. Yet the struggle for knowledge, the need for adaptation and the effort to survive were never relaxed. The Earthchild was well trained and disciplined, he was never unduly mollycoddled. He cried for bread and went hungry, he shivered and was cast out, he was sick and driven into the forest. Weary he was lashed with storms, thirsty he found the wasters dried up. When weak his burden was increased and in the midst of rejoicing he was struck down with sorrow. In moments of weakness he cried, "Enough!" and doubted his destiny; but always something fortified and encouraged him, the Earthling never forfeited his Godlikeness.

El muchacho fue tratado severamente, porque necesitaba la fortaleza, el coraje y la astucia de un hombre, para adaptarle a la tarea futura. Creció sagaz y fuerte para la caza; se hizo adaptable, siendo capaz de enfrentarse a cualquier suceso inesperado. Venciendo el aturdimiento de los primeros días encontró explicación para las confusiones de sus alrededores. Aún así, el interés por el conocimiento, la necesidad de adaptación y el esfuerzo para sobrevivir nunca se relajaron. El hijo de la Tierra estaba bien entrenado y disciplinado, nunca fue indebidamente mimado. Gritaba por la comida y andaba hambriento, se retorcía y era expulsado, estaba enfermo y caminaba hacia el bosque. Fatigado era azotado con tormentas, sediento encontraba los arroyos secos. Cuando estaba débil su carga era incrementada y en medio del regocijo era derribado con dolor. En momentos de debilidad él gritaba, “¡ya está bien!” y dudaba de su destino; pero siempre algo le fortificaba y le infundía coraje. Su parte terrena nunca le quitó su Divinidad.

For man was man, he was not cowed, nor his Spirit broken; a wise God knew his limitations. As it is written in the wisdom of men, 'over chastisement is as bad as no chastisement at all'. But man was rarely chastised, he was tried, tested and challenged; he was led, prodded and urged, yet nothing was done unnecessarily. The seeming imperfections of Earth, the hazards and inequalities of life, the cruelty, harshness and apparent indifference to suffering and affliction are not what they seem; as it is, Earth is perfect for its purpose. It is ignorance of that purpose which makes it appear imperfect.

Where is there a wiser father than the Spirit of God, or a better mother than Earth? What man is now he owes to these, may he learn to be duly grateful. Above all let him never forget the lessons learned in his upbringing. 

Pero el hombre era un hombre, no se acobardó ni se rompió su Espíritu; un sabio Dios conocía sus limitaciones. Como está escrito en la sabiduría de los hombres, “un castigo excesivo es tan malo como la falta total de castigo”. Pero el hombre raramente era castigado, fue afligido, probado y cambiado; fue dirigido, empujado e incitado, y nada de esto se hizo en vano. Las aparentes imperfecciones de la Tierra, el azar y la desigualdad de la vida, la crueldad, la aspereza y la aparente indiferencia a los sufrimientos y aflicciones no es lo que parece; según es, la Tierra es perfecta para su propósito. Es la ignorancia del propósito lo que lo hace parecer imperfecta.

¿Dónde hay un padre más sabio que el Espíritu de Dios, o una madre mejor que la Tierra? Lo que el hombre es ahora se lo debe a esto, debe aprender a estar debidamente agradecido. Sobre todo no dejarle olvidar nunca las lecciones aprendidas en su crianza.

CHAPTER THREE 

THE DESTRUCTION AND RE-CREATION

It is known, and the story comes down from ancient times, that there was not one creation but two, a creation and a re-creation. It is a fact known to the wise that the Earth was utterly destroyed once then reborn on a second wheel of creation. 

At the time of the great destruction of Earth, God caused a dragon from out of Heaven to come and encompass her about. The dragon was frightful to behold, it lashed its tail, it breathed out fire and hot coals, and a great catastrophe was inflicted upon mankind.

Es sabido, y la historia viene de tiempos muy remotos, que hubo no una creación, sino dos, una creación y una recreación. Es un hecho conocido por los sabios que la Tierra fue destruida totalmente una vez y entonces se reinició un segundo ciclo de creación.

En tiempos de la gran destrucción de la Tierra, Dios permitió a un dragón de más allá de los Cielos venir y rodearla por todas partes. El dragón era espantoso de contemplar, agitaba su cola, exhalaba fuego y carbones ardientes, y una gran catástrofe se abatió sobre la humanidad.

The body of the dragon was wreathed in a cold bright light and beneath, on the belly, was a ruddy hued glow, while behind it trailed a flowing tail of smoke. It spewed out cinders and hot stones and its breath was foul and stenchful, poisoning the nostrils of men. Its passage caused great thunderings and lightnings to rend the thick darkened sky, all Heaven and Earth being made hot. The seas were loosened from their cradles and rose up, pouring across the land. There was an awful, shrilling trumpeting which outpowered even the howling of the unleashed winds.

El cuerpo del dragón estaba adornado con una fría y apagada luz brillante, en el vientre, tenía un marcado tono rojizo, mientras por detrás arrastraba una abundante cola de humo. Vomitaba cenizas y ardientes piedras y su aliento era sucio y maloliente, envenenando la nariz de los hombres. Su paso causó grandes truenos y relámpagos hasta rasgar el grueso cielo oscurecido, todos los Cielos y la Tierra se abrasaron. Los mares fueron levantados de sus lechos y se elevaron, vertiéndose sobre la tierra. Hubo un tremendo trompetazo penetrante que casi superó el silbido de los desencadenados vientos.

Men, stricken with terror, went mad at the awful sight in the Heavens. They were loosed from their senses and dashed about, crazed, not knowing what they did. The breath was sucked from their bodies and they were burnt with a strange ash.

Then it passed, leaving Earth enwrapped within a dark and glowering mantle which was ruddily lit up inside. The bowels of the Earth were torn open in great writhing upheavals and a howling whirlwind rent the mountains apart. The wrath of the sky-monster was loosed in the Heavens. It lashed about in flaming fury, roaring like a thousand thunders; it poured down fiery destruction amid a welter of thick black blood. So awesome was the fearfully aspected thing that the memory mercifully departed from man, his thoughts were smothered under a cloud of forgetfulness.

Los hombres, afligidos por el terror, se volvieron locos ante el espantoso signo en los Cielos. Perdieron el uso de sus sentidos y chocaban entre sí, enloquecidos, sin saber lo que hacían. La respiración fue succionada de sus cuerpos y ardieron con unas cenizas extrañas.

Cuando pasó, dejando la Tierra envuelta con un oscuro manto que era rojizo, se incendió por dentro. Las entrañas de la Tierra se abrieron en un cataclismo inexpresable y un aullador torbellino rasgó las montañas. El estruendo del monstruo celeste se perdió en los Cielos. Azotaba alrededor con furia ardiente, rugiendo como mil truenos; causando una ardiente destrucción entre un mar de espesa sangre negra. Tal fue el terror de la horrenda cosa contemplada que la memoria de forma misericordiosa lo borró del hombre, su recuerdo fue cubierto bajo una nube de olvido.

 The Earth vomited forth great gusts of foul breath from awful mouths opening up in the midst of the land. The evil breath bit at the throat before it drove men mad and killed them. Those who did not die in this manner were smothered under a cloud of red dust and ashes, or were swallowed by the yawning mouths of Earth or crushed beneath crashing rocks.

La Tierra vomitaba con grandes explosiones de sucio aliento por los tremendos agujeros abiertos en medio de los campos. El gas pestilente mordía la garganta antes de enloquecer a los hombres y matarlos. Los que no morían de esta forma eran ahogados bajo una nube de polvo rojo y cenizas,o eran tragados por las abiertas bocas de la Tierra o aplastados bajo una roca desprendida.

The first sky-monster was joined by another which swallowed the tail of the one going before, but the two could not be seen at once. The sky-monster reigned and raged above Earth, doing battle to possess it, but the many bladed sword of God cut them in pieces, and their falling bodies enlarged the land and the sea.

El primer monstruo celeste se juntó con otro que mordía la cola del que vino primero, pero el segundo no pudo ser visto en aquella ocasión. El monstruo celeste prevalecía y bramaba sobre la Tierra, presentando batalla para vencerle, pero alguna hoja de la espada de Dios le cortó en trozos y sus cuerpos derribados agrandaron la tierra y el mar.

In this manner the first Earth was destroyed by calamity descending from out of the skies. The vaults of Heaven had opened to bring forth monsters more fearsome than any that ever haunted the uneasy dreams of men.

De esta manera la primera Tierra fue destruida por una calamidad que descendió del cielo. Las bóvedas de los Cielos se abrieron para sujetar al monstruo más tenebroso que cualquier otro que pudieran concebir los inquietos sueños de los hombres.

Men and their dwelling places were gone, only sky boulders and red earth remained where once they were, but amidst all the desolation a few survived, for man is not easily destroyed. They crept out from caves and came down from the mountainsides. Their eyes were wild and their limbs trembled, their bodies shook and their tongues lacked control. Their faces were twisted and the skin hung loose on their bones. They were as maddened wild beasts driven into an enclosure before flames; they knew no law, being deprived of all the wisdom they once had and those who had guided them were gone. 

Los hombres y sus lugares habitables habían desaparecido, sólo las piedras del cielo y la tierra roja permanecían dónde estaban antes, pero en medio de toda la desolación un pequeño grupo sobrevivió, porque al hombre no se le destruye fácilmente. Salieron gateando de las cuevas y bajaron de los sitios montañosos. Sus ojos eran feroces y sus piernas temblaban, sus cuerpos se agitaban y sus lenguas carecían de control. Sus caras estaban torcidas y su piel colgaba suelta en sus huesos. Eran como enloquecidas bestias salvajes dentro de un cercado ante las llamas; no conocían leyes, privados de todo el saber que tuvieron en un tiempo y los que les guiaban no estaban.

The Earth, only true Altar of God, had offered up a sacrifice of life and sorrow to atone for the sins of mankind. Man had not sinned in deed but in the things he had failed to do. Man suffers not only for what he does but for what he fails to do. He is not chastised for making mistakes but for failing to recognize and rectify them.

La Tierra, el único verdadero altar de Dios, ofreció un sacrificio de vida y dolor para expiar los pecados de la humanidad. El hombre no había pecado en lo que hizo, sino en lo que había dejado de hacer. El hombre no sólo sufre por lo que hace sino también por lo que deja de hacer. No es un castigo por equivocarse sino por fallar en reconocerlo y rectificarlo.

Then the great canopy of dust and cloud which encompassed the Earth, enshrouding it in heavy darkness, was pierced by ruddy light, and the canopy swept down in great cloudbursts and raging storm waters. Cool moon tears were shed for the distress of Earth and the woes of men.

Entonces el gran dosel de polvo y nubes que acompañaba a la Tierra, encerrándola en una dura oscuridad, fue traspasada por una rojiza luz, y el dosel derramó un gran chaparrón y produjo una furiosa tormenta de agua. La fría luna derramaba lágrimas por la desgracia de la Tierra y el dolor de los hombres.

When the light of the sun pierced the Earth's shroud, bathing the land in its revitalizing glory, the Earth again knew night and day, for there were now times of light and times of darkness. The smothering canopy rolled away and the vaults of Heaven became visible to man. The foul air was purified and new air clothed the reborn Earth, shielding her from the dark hostile void of Heaven.

Cuando la luz del sol penetró la mortaja de la Tierra, bañando los campos con su gloria revitalizadora, la Tierra conoció de nuevo la noche y el día, porque ahora había tiempo de luz y tiempo de oscuridad. La cubierta de humo se disipó y las bóvedas del Cielo se hicieron visibles al hombre. El sucio aire se purificó y un nuevo aire rodeó a la renacida Tierra,protegiéndola del negro vacío hostil de los Cielos.

The rainstorms ceased to beat upon the faces of the land and the waters stilled their turmoil. Earthquakes no longer tore the Earth open, nor was it burned and buried by hot rocks. The land masses were re-established in stability and solidity, standing firm in the midst of the surrounding waters. The oceans fell back to their assigned places and the land stood steady upon its foundations. The sun shone upon land and sea, and life was renewed upon the face of the Earth. Rain fell gently once more and clouds of fleece floated across day-skies.

Las tormentas de rayos dejaron de golpear la faz de la tierra y las aguas calmaron sus tumultos. Los terremotos ya no rasgaron la Tierra abierta, y no hubo  ni incendios ni muertes por rocas ardientes. La masas de los campos restablecieron su  estabilidad y solidez, permaneciendo firmes en medio de las agitadas aguas. Los océanos retrocedieron a sus sitios asignados y las tierras se asentaron firmemente sobre sus fundamentos. El sol brillaba sobre la tierra y el mar, y la vida se renovaba sobre la faz de la Tierra. La lluvia cayó dulcemente una vez más y unas nubes de algodón flotaban a través del cielo diurno.

The waters were purified, the sediment sank and life increased in abundance. Life was renewed, but it was different. Man survived, but he was not the same. The sun was not as it had been and a moon had been taken away. Man stood in the midst of renewal and regeneration. He looked up into the Heavens above in fear for the awful powers of destruction lurking there. Henceforth, the placid skies would hold a terrifying secret.

Las aguas se purificaron, los sedimentos se hundieron y la vida creció en abundancia. La vida se renovó, pero era diferente. El hombre sobrevivió pero no era el mismo. El sol no era como había sido y la luna se había cambiado de lugar. El hombre permaneció en medio de una renovación y regeneración. Miraba arriba hacia los Cielos con miedo por los terribles poderes de destrucción contenidos allí. En adelante, los plácidos cielos contendrían un terrorífico secreto.

Man found the new Earth firm and the Heavens fixed. He rejoiced but also feared, for he lived in dread that the Heavens would again bring forth monsters and crash about him.

El hombre encontró una nueva tierra firme y los Cielos fijos. Se alegró pero también estaba asustado porque vivía en el terror de que los Cielos trajeran otra vez los monstruos y los lanzara contra él

When men came forth from their hiding places and refuges, the world their fathers had known was gone forever. The face of the land was changed and Earth was littered with rocks and stones which had fallen when the structure of Heaven collapsed. One generation groped in the desolation and gloom, and as the thick darkness was dispelled its children believed they were witnessing a new creation. Time passed, memory dimmed and the record of evens was no longer clear. Generation followed generation and as the ages unfolded, new tongues and new tales replaced the old. 

Cuando los hombres salieron de sus escondites y refugios, el mundo que sus padres habían conocido había desaparecido para siempre. La faz de la tierra había cambiado y estaba empedrada con las rocas y piedras que habían caído cuando la estructura de los Cielos colapsó. Una generación anduvo en la desolación y el pesimismo y cuando la gruesa oscuridad se desvaneció, sus hijos pensaron que eran testigos de una nueva creación. El tiempo pasó, la memoria disminuyó y el recuerdo de los acontecimiento no estuvo claro durante mucho tiempo. Generación tras generación y según las épocas se desarrollaron, nuevas lenguas y nuevas historias reemplazaron a las antiguas.
