Chapter 7 – Capítulo 7

Coming from the wilderness, Jesus still retained the full power of the Holy Spirit. Having it on trusteeship from God, He would not use it unworthily. At night it shone around Him like a pale blue haze; and though many have it, never has another manifested it in such strength.

Volviendo del desierto, Jesús conservaba todavía el poder total del Espíritu Santo. Teniéndolo como depositario de Dios, Él no lo usaría de forma indigna. Por la noche brillaba a su alrededor como un vago azul pálido; y aunque muchos lo tenían, nunca otro lo había manifestado con tal fuerza.

Two followers of John the Forerunner - one being Andrew the brother of Simon - were sent by him to be with Jesus and accompanied Him to the Galilean Sea of the Gentiles. Early in the morning Andrew sought out his brother and said, “We have found the Deliverer,” but at the time Simon thought another was meant.

Dos seguidores de Juan el Precursor -siendo uno Andrés el hermano de Simón- fueron enviados por éste para estar con Jesús y acompañarle al Mar de los Gentiles en Galilea. Por la mañana temprano Andrés llevó aparte a su hermano y le dijo, “Hemos encontrado al Libertador”, pero el mismo tiempo Simón estaba reflexionando algo distinto.

When Jesus had known Simon for two days, He said, “You are strong, silent and steady, one likely to be ever steadfast in conflict; therefore you shall be called Peter,” this meaning “the Rock” in the tongue of the Gentiles. And from that day Simon became a follower of Jesus.

Cuando Jesús conoció a Simón durante dos días, le dijo, “Tú eres fuerte, silencioso y firme, alguien que se mantiene siempre firme en el conflicto; Por lo tanto serás llamado Pedro”, que significa “La Roca” en la lengua de los Gentiles. Y desde aquel día Simón se convirtió en seguidor de Jesús

Passing along the shore, they came upon the Tower of Fishermen, and a boat was being unloaded by its owners. One who accompanied Jesus said, “Those are good men known to me.”

Caminando a lo largo de la orilla, llegaron junto a la Torre de los Pescadores, y una barca estaba siendo descargada por sus dueños. Uno que acompañaba a Jesús dijo, “Estos son buenos hombres me parece”

Then Jesus spoke to them while sharing a meal and later said, “Fishing is a good life, but there is a better one. Follow Me and you will become fishers of men.” So, placing their boat in the keeping of others, they followed Jesus.

Entonces Jesús les habló mientras compartían una comida y más tarde dijo:, “Pescar es una buena vida, pero ha una mejor. Seguidme y seréis pescadores de hombres”. Así, dejando su barca al cuidado de otros, ellos siguieron a Jesús.

At this time, Jesus spoke with caution, for the people still recalled Judas the Galilean who had smitten the Romans in battle. Jesus was a Man of long silences, and many thought Him strange. But He taught all along the shore of the Galilean Sea and called others to follow Him. They worked wherever they could, for Jesus said, “What we offer is not to be sold like a common chattel, and we will not take anything without giving value in return.”

En aquel tiempo, Jesús hablaba con precaución, porque la gente todavía recordaba a Judas el Galileo que había golpeado a los Romanos en la batalla. Jesús era un Hombre de largos silencios, y muchos Le consideraban extraño. Pero Él hablaba a todos a los largo de la orilla del Mar de Galilea y llamó a otros para que Le siguieran. Ellos trabajaban dondequiera que pudieran, porque Jesús decía, “Lo que nosotros ofrecemos no es para ser vendido como una mercancía cualquiera, y no tomaremos nada sin entregar su valor a cambio”

He healed many, saying, “It is not I but the Power from Above with Me.”

Some of the disciples said, “It is truly He Who heals.”

Algunos discípulos decían, “ Es verdaderamente Él Quien cura”

But He did not cure all, for in some it created a disturbance, while many were not cured because this would have done them more harm than good.

When asked, “How do You heal?” Jesus replied, “By the finger of God.” This is what the prophets had said regarding these things: “These are the words of God: ‘I will restore you to health and heal your wounds. Be strong of heart and courageous, neither afraid nor dismayed, for I am with you always.’”

Cuando le preguntaban, “Cómo haces para curar?” Jesús contestaba,, “Por el dedo de Dios”. Esto es lo que los profetas han dicho acerca de estas cosas; “ Estas son las palabras de Dios; “Yo restauraré tu salud y curaré tus heridas. Sé fuerte de corazón y valiente, no te asustes ni abandones, porque yo estoy siempre contigo””.

About this time, the disciples questioned Jesus concerning the World of Spirits wherein lay the Kingdom of Heaven, and He said, “It is like a flight of stairs leading from cellar to roof. They who enter the house are given a place on the stairs and may step downwards and back, but never up, though the stair above is not unknown to them. Those on the top stair are in glorious sunshine, while those at the bottom are in darkness and gloom.”

En aquellos tiempos, los discípulos preguntaron a Jesús sobre el Mundo del Espíritu donde está el Reino de los Cielos, y Él dijo, “Es como una escalera de peldaños que va desde el sótano al tejado. A los que entran en la casa se les da un lugar en un peldaño y pueden bajar y volver, pero nunca subir, aunque los peldaños superiores no les son desconocidos. Los del peldaño superior están en gloriosa claridad, mientras los que los de lo hondo están en la oscuridad y la lobreguez”

A disciple said, “Many who do not come mock Your words.” Jesus replied, “Dogs bite stones, not those who throw them.”

Un discípulo le dijo: “Muchos que no vienen se burlan de tus palabras” Jesús Contestó, “Los perros muerden las piedras, no los que se las lanzan

Someone asked, “Are You the Hammer of God? For all yearn for God’s intervention and when that comes will rejoice, saying, ‘This is the day of the One God for which we have long waited.’”

Alguien preguntó, “Eres tú el Martillo de Dios? Porque todos suspiran por la intervención de Dios y llevamos mucho tiempo esperando”

Jesus answered, “There is a time for sowing and a time for reaping, everything to its appointed time.”

Jesús contentó, “Hay un tiempo para sembrar y un tiempo para cosechar, cada cosa a su debido tiempo”.

Jesus gathered His followers around Him and taught as follows: “These days are a night of ignorance when all is dark, but I am the Light which will dispel the darkness. My Light will light your lamps, and you too will become bearers of the Light. I am the Light to point the way, and none can find the way to God except by the Light.

Jesús reunía a sus seguidores alrededor de Él y les hablaba así: “Estos días son una noche de ignorancia en la que todo es oscuro, pero yo soy la Luz que dispersará la oscuridad. Mi Luz encenderá vuestras lámparas y vosotros también seréis portadores de la Luz. Yo soy la Luz que señala el camino y nadie puede encontrar el camino excepto por la Luz.

“I come to testify concerning the Father, for those following My way see God in the Light of the Father. Does not a father chastise in love and punish with affection? Does he not give you tasks only just within your power of accomplishment? Even as with an earthly father, so with the Heavenly Father, Who is infinitely greater. Being flesh, we understand earthly ways, but the ways of God may also be known and understood, for His Spirit resides in all men.

“Yo vengo a dar testimonio del Padre, porque los que sigan mi camino podrán ver a Dios en la Luz del Padre. Acaso un padre no castiga con amor e impone esfuerzos con afecto? ¿No os impone la tarea justo dentro de vuestros poder de cumplirla? Igual que pasa con un padre terrenal, así con el Padre Celestial, Que es infinitamente más grande. Siendo carne, nosotros entendemos los caminos terrestres, pero los caminos de Dios también pueden ser conocidos y comprendidos, porque Su Espíritu reside en todos los hombres.

“Be upright in faith yourselves, and teach uprightness and Truth. Fear no man, especially the rich and powerful, for they live in servitude to their possessions and position. You must carry the Light to many, but few will be those who light the lamp of their lives from it.

Sed honrados en vuestra propia fe, y aprended la probidad y la Verdad. No temáis a los hombres, especialmente a los ricos y poderosos, porque ellos viven en la servidumbre de sus posesiones y su posición. Debéis llevar la Luz a todos, pero pocos serán los que iluminen la lámpara de sus vidas de ella.

“Do not covet riches, for though few men possess them, all who do are not free but are themselves possessed by their wealth. Because riches are the possession of a few, all seek them. Even so are my words; were they possessed by all, none would value them.”

“No codiciéis riquezas, porque a pesar de que unos pocos las poseen, ninguno de ellos es libre sino que están ellos mismos poseídos por sus caudales. A causa de que las riquezas están en posesión de unos pocos, todos las desean. Lo mismo les pasa a mis palabras; si fueran poseídas por todos, nadie las valoraría”

One said to Jesus, “Sire, we are not all like John who could surely eat bread made with sand. Is there no easy way?”

Alguien le dijo a Jesús, “Señor, nosotros no somos todos como John que seguramente come pan hecho con arena, ¿no hay un camino fácil?

Jesus said, “The only easy paths in life lead nowhere, or are cut by others. But the path I point can be cut by none but yourselves.

Jesús contestó, “El único camino fácil en la vida no conduce a ninguna parte, o está practicado por otros. Pero el camino que yo señalo no puede ser ocupado por nadie excepto por vosotros mismos.

“A peddler going from place to place is willing to undergo the hardships incurred through his wandering, in order to earn his livelihood. Even so should you be prepared to cheerfully accept the hardships imposed by life, in order to gain glory in the life which follows.

Un vendedor que va de un sitio a otro está expuesto a experimentar los infortunios contraídos por su vagabundeo, con objeto de ganar su sustento. De la misma manera os debéis preparar para aceptar llenos de alegría los infortunios impuestos por la vida, con objeto de ganar la gloria en la vida que sigue,

“If a child is not raised with austerity, can it enjoy the pleasures of later life? Only the foolish parent overindulges the child, and if it is done in the name of affection, the parent is either a hypocrite or irresponsible.”

Si un niño no crece con austeridad, puede disfrutar los placeres de una vida futura? Sólo los padres locos miman demasiado a un niño, y si lo hacen en nombre del cariño, el padre es o un hipócrita o un irresponsable”

Now, close by there was a well, and the disciples were drawing water for drinking. Jesus called them over and said, “Do you find the water refreshing?” They replied, “Yes, we have drunk our fill and are refreshed.”

Bien, cerca de allí había un pozo, y los discípulos estaban sacando agua para beber. Jesús les llamó y les dijo, “¿habéis encontrado el agua refrescante?” Ellos contestaron, “ Sí, hemos bebido hasta hartarnos y nos hemos refrescado”

Jesus said, “Does any water remain in the well?” They replied, “Sire, this well is inexhaustible and cannot be drunk dry by any number of men.”

Jesús dijo, ¿No queda nada de agua en el pozo? Ellos contestaron, “Señor este pozo es inagotable, y no puede secarse por beber muchos hombres”

Then Jesus said, “It is even so with my teachings. What I have revealed so far is but a small portion of the whole, yet it suffices for the present needs. The people among whom we go are perverse and headstrong and, like a thirsting ass, can be given only sufficient to ease their pressing need. If they say to you, ‘This is beyond our understanding’ or ‘You have told us only in part,’ recall this well and the refreshing water you obtained from it.”

Entonces Jesús dijo, “Lo mismo pasa con mis enseñanzas. Lo que yo he revelado es mucho pero es sólo una pequeña porción de la totalidad, aunque es suficiente para las necesidades presentes. La gente entre la que vamos es perversa y dura de cabeza y, como a burros sedientos, sólo se les puede dar lo suficiente para calmar sus urgentes necesidades. Si os dicen, “Esto está más allá de nuestra comprensión” o”Nos habéis dicho sólo una parte”, recordad este pozo y la refrescante agua que habéis obtenido de él”

One of the disciples asked, “How shall we judge what people do, whether it be good or whether it be bad?”

Uno de los discípulos preguntó, “Cómo sabremos juzgar lo que la gente hace, si es bueno o es malo?

Jesus said, “If you are unsure whether a person’s actions be good or bad, incline in his favor. If anything may be interpreted favorably or otherwise, then interpret favorably.

Jesús dijo, “Si no estás seguro de si las acciones de una persona son buenas o malas, inclínate a su favor. Si cualquier cosa debe ser interpretada favorablemente o de otra forma, entonces interprétala favorablemente.

“Do not seek for wrongdoing, like dogs chasing a foul smell. If a good man does something appearing to be bad, then withhold judgment, wondering whether there be some good motive behind it. Yet do not be easily hoodwinked. If one with a bad reputation does something seemingly good, question his motives, but bear in mind that no man is either wholly good or wholly evil.”

No busquéis la maldad, como los perros que encuentran un olor desagradable. Si un buen hombre hace algo que parece estar mal, entonces absteneos de juzgar, preguntándoos si hay algún buen motivo tras ello. Sin embargo no os dejéis engañar fácilmente. Si alguien con mala reputación hace algo aparentemente bueno, cuestionar sus motivos, pero llevad en el pensamiento que nadie es ni totalmente bueno ni totalmente malo.

Jesus said, “Fortify yourselves with the knowledge of Truth as I have imparted it to you. Rejoice in the knowledge that you stand within its everlasting light.”

Jesús dijo, “Fortificaos vosotros mismos con el conocimiento de la Verdad tal como yo os la he enseñado. Regocijaos en el conocimiento de que poseéis dentro su eterna luz”

The disciples said, “Sire, we are grateful for what You give us. We know each of us is a part of the Everlasting Spirit. We have truly found Truth and see it more clearly than others. We are children of the Light and of the Spirit, even as we are children of the Father. None of us can ever repay You, for we have been given treasure beyond riches. Only the Heavenly Father can provide proper recompense for Your labors among men.”

Los discípulos dijeron, “Señor, estamos agradecidos por lo que nos has dado. Sabemos que cada uno de nosotros es una parte del Espíritu Eterno. Verdaderamente hemos encontrado la Verdad y la vemos con más claridad que otros. Somos Hijos de la luz y del Espíritu, igual que somos Hijos del Padre. Ninguno de nosotros puede nunca corresponderte, porque se nos ha entregado un tesoro más allá de las riquezas. Sólo el Padre Celestial puede darte una recompensa apropiada a Tu labor entre los hombres”.

At this time, Jesus was teaching His disciples at a place apart, for He was still wary of the people, but He and the disciples went among them to earn their bread.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús enseñaba a Sus discípulos en un lugar apartado, porque Él era todavía cauteloso con la gente, pero Él y los discípulos iban entre ellos para ganarse su pan.

Jesus healed many, but to His disciples He said, “I have not come to strengthen the bodies of men but their spirits. For if man is wholesome in spirit, he is wholesome in body. It is better to treat the man than the malady.”

Jesús sanaba a muchos, pero a Sus discípulos les decía, “Yo no he venido a fortalecer el cuerpo de los hombres sino sus espíritus. Porque si el hombre es saludable de espíritu, es saludable de cuerpo. Es mejor tratar al hombre que a la enfermedad.

One day, a disciple returning from his labor said to Jesus, “Sire, we work all day and scarcely sleep at night, yet when we tell of Your teachings we are abused and mocked by the people. Where is the benefit in this? Should we not be treated otherwise?”

Un día, un discípulo volviendo de su trabajo le dijo a Jesús, “Señor, trabajamos todos los días y apenas dormimos por la noche, sin embargo cuando hablamos de tus enseñanzas somos injuriados y ridiculizados por la gente. ¿dónde está el beneficio de esto? ¿no deberíamos ser tratados de otra forma?

Jesus said, “When I was a Boy, the poor would gather about My mother’s door, for she always had an extra loaf in the oven for them. One day, a beggar, having been fed often and now perhaps considering it his entitlement, found fit to scold her, for this day she was not well, and therefore slow. She, not being used to this, began to weep.

Jesús dijo, “Cuando yo era un Muchacho, los pobres se acumulaban a la puerta de mi Madre, porque ella tenía siempre un pan extra en el horno para ellos. Un día, un mendigo, habiendo sido alimentado otras veces y quizá considerando ahora que éste era su derecho, empezó a reñirla, porque ese día ella no estaba bien y por lo tanto débil. Ella, que no estaba acostumbrada a esto, empezó a llorar.

“So I say unto you, do not let the talk of thoughtless tongue perturb you, for this is only a foretaste of what is to come. These things are refining processes of the Spirit, therefore rejoice for the benefit rather than sorrow for the hurt.

Así yo te digo, no dejes la conversación de una lengua irreflexiva te perturbe, porque eso es sólo un anticipo de lo que está por llegar. Estas cosas son procesos refinados del Espíritu, por lo tanto, alégrate por el beneficio mejor que por el dolor del daño

“For when my mother cried, I said to her, ‘Dry your eyes and be happy, for now you can perform your charitable acts to perfection. Had those who stood about the door praised you, the deed would have been less worthy, having been done for their praise and therefore not entirely out of charity. Many do good works because it increases their self-esteem, but charity is not giving the bone to a hungry dog, but giving the meat when hungry yourself.’”

Porque cuando mi madre lloró, yo le dije, “Seca tus ojos y sé feliz, porque ahora puedes encaminar tus actos de caridad hacia la perfección. Los que estaban junto a la puerta te suplicaban, la acción podría haber sido menos meritoria, habiendo sido realizada por sus súplicas y por tanto no enteramente por caridad. Muchos hacen buenas obras porque aumentan su autoestima, pero la caridad no es darle lo bueno a un perro hambriento, sino darle la comida cuando tú mismo estás hambriento”

Andrew said to Jesus, “If we give all we have to the poor, they will grow fat and slothful, preferring a life of beggary to one of toil.”

Andrés le dijo a Jesús, “Si le damos todo lo que tenemos a los pobres, ellos acabarán gordos y perezosos, prefiriendo la vida del vagabundo a la del que se esfuerza”

Jesus said, “Charity is giving a hand to a blind man, or soothing the wounds of those smitten by the spirit-strengthening sword of life. It is good to help those in distress or those who cannot help themselves, but sometimes giving does more harm than good. Many give because it eases their conscience or raises their self-esteem. Such giving is not goodness. But when giving entails self-sacrifice, then it is better to give than to receive, for the benefit lies in the sacrifice made and not in the thing bestowed.

Jesús dijo, “La caridad es dar la mano a un hombre ciego, o calmar las heridas de los golpeados por la espada de la vida que fortalece el espíritu. Es bueno socorrer a los que están en desgracia o a los que no se pueden ayudar a sí mismos, pero algunas veces dando se hace más mal que bien. Muchos dan para tranquilizar sus conciencias o elevar su autoestima. Dar así no es bondad. Pero cuando el dar entraña un autosacrificio, entonces es mejor dar que recibir, porque el beneficio está en el sacrificio hecho no en la cosa donada.

“A rich man was going away, so he gave a purse of silver to each of his two servants so they could keep themselves while he was away. One servant spent the money on merchandise which he hawked around the city and, by being thrifty, was able to recover the silver with sufficient over to buy a stall and then a shop. When the master returned, he said to this man, ‘Such efforts should not go unrewarded,’ and made him a gift of the silver.

“Un hombre rico tenía que ir lejos, así que entregó una bolsa de plata a cada uno de sus dos sirvientes así podrían cuidarse ellos mismos mientras él estaba lejos. Uno de los sirvientes gastó el dinero en mercancías que vendía en los alrededores de la ciudad y, porque era frugal, fue capaz de recuperar la plata con suficiente ganancias como para comprar un puesto y después una tienda. “The other servant, having the purse of silver, began to spend it on pleasure and a life of ease, so when the master returned, there was nothing left. This angered the master after seeing how hard the other had toiled, so he demanded repayment of the silver and, when this could not be done, enslaved the man.

El otro sirviente, al tener la bolsa de plata, empezó a malgastarlo en placeres y una vida de comodidad, así que cuando el dueño volvió, no había quedado nada. Esto enfadó al dueño después de ver lo fuerte que el otro se había afanado, así que le exigió el pago de la plasta y, como esto no se podía hacer, hizo esclavo al hombre.

“The improvident servant was unable to understand why the other has been given a gift and freedom, while he was enslaved for being unable to repay - why he who had money was given more. Yet I say to you, this is the way of the Father Who gives trusteeship of Earth’s bounty to His children. Likewise, they are given talents of spiritual gold which are greater than any earthly silver, but these many choose to bury in the ground. For them the day of accounting must surely come.”

“El imprudente siervo era incapaz de comprender por qué al otro le había dado un regalo y la libertad, mientras que él era esclavizado por ser incapaz de devolverlo -por qué el que tenía dinero había recibido más. Sin embargo Yo os digo, este es el camino del Padre Que entrega como encargo el regalo de la Tierra a Sus hijos. Asimismo, ellos han recibido talentos de oro espiritual que son mayores que cualquier plata terrestre, pero muchos de ellos eligen lo enterrado en el suelo. Para éstos vendrá con toda seguridad el día del recuento”

Jesus tarried long beside the waters, moving from place to place and teaching His disciples according to their understanding. Some were like strong, well-plastered cisterns holding water without leaking a drop; others could not retain all that was poured into them. Jesus taught each only in accordance with his capacity, and some carried much more of His teachings than others.

Jesús permanecía mucho junto al agua, caminando de sitio en sitio y enseñando a Sus discípulos de acuerdo con su comprensión. Algunos eran como fuertes, bien enlucidas cisternas que guardaban el agua sin derramar una gota; Otros no podían retener todo lo que se vertía en su interior. Jesús enseñaba a cada uno sólo de cuerdo con su capacidad, y algunos lograban más de Sus enseñanzas que otros.

One day, at eventide, Jesus said, “Because you are wearied and your task seems endless, do not despair. What you do may be likened to a man down by the shore whose master has set him the task of carrying water from the sea to fill a hole in the sand. The sea flows no less, neither does the land become flooded. When the master comes, the man says to him, ‘This is a fruitless task to which I can see no end,’ and the master replies, ‘It is one which grows easier with time, and each day you are paid.’

Un día, al atardecer, Jesús dijo, “Porque estáis cansados y vuestro trabajo parece sin fin, no desesperéis. Lo que hacéis puede ser semejante a un hombre sentado en la orilla cuyo maestro le ha impuesto el trabajo de acarrear agua del mal para llenar un agujero en la arena. El mar no disminuye ni la tierra se inunda. Cuando el maestro llega, el hombre le dice, “Este es un trabajo inútil al que no puedo ver el fin” y el maestro contesta, “Esto es algo que crece más fácil con el tiempo, y cada día tú eres asalariado”

“Two men, finding favor in the eyes of a king, were promised high positions in a distant city, but had to find their own way. They set off together and stayed the first night at an inn where there were many attractions. One man spent the night in drinking and merriment; the other, finding an experienced traveler who knew the road, kept the night in his company. This second man learned that by going a particular way he would avoid a thick forest full of wild beasts; a turning would lead him away from a swamp, and others from a precipice and thorny thickets. He went to bed and awoke early, feeling refreshed, and went his way. The other man, being heavy-headed and sluggish, started late in the day.

“A dos hombres, encontrando favor a los ojos de un rey, se les prometió una alta posición en una ciudad distante, pero tenían que encontrar su propio camino. Salieron juntos y pararon la primera noche en una pensión donde había muchas atracciones. Uno de los hombres pasó la noche bebiendo y divirtiéndose; el otro, encontrando a un viajero experimentado que conocía el camino, pasó la noche en su compañía. El segundo aprendió que yendo por un camino particular podría encontrar un espeso bosque lleno de fieras salvajes; un desvío le podría llevar lejos de un pantano, y otro lejos de un precipicio y de matorrales espinosos. Él se fue a la cama y se levantó pronto, sintiéndose despejado y emprendió su camino. El otro hombre, como tenía resaca y pereza, empezó tarde durante el día.

“The early starter, heeding all he had been told, came quickly to the city and enjoyed his rewards. The other became lost in the forest and was wounded by wild beasts. He wandered through swamps and fell down the precipice to die of weariness among the thickets. Now, the thick forest is ignorance, the swamps are delusions, the precipice the carnal desires which lure men to spiritual disaster, and the thorny tickets tribulation and suffering, without which development is impossible. The experienced traveler is a disciple of the Light, and the man who reaches the city one who listens to him.”

El que había empezado antes, haciendo caso de todo lo que se le había dicho, llegó rápidamente a la ciudad y obtuvo su recompensa. El otro se perdió en el bosque y fue atacado por animales salvajes. Vagabundeó por el pantano y cayó al precipicio para morir de cansancio entre los matorrales. Pues bien, el bosque espeso es la ignorancia, el pantano es la desilusión, el precipicio los deseos carnales que llevan al hombre al desastre espiritual, y los espinosos matorrales la tribulación y el sufrimiento, sin el que el desarrollo es imposible. El viajero experimentado es un discípulo de la luz, y el hombre que alcanzó la ciudad alguien que le había escuchado.”

The disciples said, “Sire, many people hear our words, but how many take them to heart and benefit? We are trying to bail out the sea with a shell.”

Jesus said, “Then you are learning patience and persistence in a good school. If a cloak is placed around a shivering man, his body becomes warm and is comforted, but if it is placed around a boulder, there is neither effect nor response.

“Though I have told you the days fly as though carried on the wings of swallows, do not act as though the day’s labor is all important and must be completed within the day. Doing this you become less able to perform the task, for he who tries to reach out over the edge of his limitations falls into a pit and achieves nothing.”

James, the disciple, said, “If a man of unlimited wealth says, ‘Come and count silver pieces from sunrise to sunrise, and all the pieces counted will be yours,’ could the man counting be expected to sleep during the night?”

“Water drawn from the ground or falling from the sky will produce burning weeds and grass, but to produce bread to eat and wine to drink, water from the brows of men must be added. The Destroyer - PART 3 / EL DESTRUCTOR

FROM THE SCROLL OF ADEPHA/ DEL PERGAMINO DE ADEPHA

The Doomshape, called The Destroyer, in Egypt, was seen in all the lands whereabouts. In colour it was bright and fiery, in appearance changing and unstable. It twisted about itself like a coil, like water bubbling into a pool from an underground supply, and all men agree it was a most fearsome sight. It was not a great comet or a loosened star, being more like a fiery body of flame.

La Forma del Destino, llamado el Destructor, en Egipto, se vio en todas las tierras de alrededor. El color era brillante y ardiente, cambiando de apariencia e inestable. Se retorcía sobre sí mismo como una serpentina, como agua burbujeante en una acequia desde una fuente subterránea, y todos los hombres afirmaron que era la visión más horrible. Its movements on high were slow, below it swirled in the manner of smoke and it remained close to the sun whose face it hid. There was a bloody redness about it, which changed as it passed along its course. It caused death and destruction in its rising and setting. It swept the Earth with grey cinder rain and caused many plagues, hunger and other evils. It bit the skin of men and beast until they became mottled with sores.

Sus movimientos en lo alto eran lentos, por debajo se arremolinaba en forma de humo y permanecía cerrado hacia el sol cuya faz ocultaba. Causaba muerte y destrucción con sus subidas y paradas. The Earth was troubled and shook, the hills and mountains moved and rocked. The dark smoke-filled Heavens bowed over Earth and a great howl came to the ears of men, borne to them upon the wings of the wind. It was the cry of the Dark Lord, the Master of Dread. Thick clouds of fiery smoke passed before him and there was an awful hail of hot stones and coals of fire. The Doomshape thundered sharply in the Heavens anond shot out bright lightings.

La Tierra temblar y se sacudieron, las planicies de las planicies y las montañas y se movieron y se balancearon. The channels of water were turned back unto themselves when the land tilted, and great trees were tossed about and snapped like twigs. Then a voice like ten thousand trumpets was heard over the wilderness, and before its burning breath the flames parted. The whole of the land moved and mountains melted. The sky itself roared like ten thousand lions in agony, and bright arrows of blood sped back and forth across its face. Earth swelled up like bread upon the hearth.

This was the aspect of the Doomshape called The Destroyer, when it appeared in days long gone by, in olden times. It is thus described in the old records, few of which remain. It is said that when it appears in the Heavens above, Earth splits open from the heat, like a nut roasted before the fire. Then flames shoot up through the surface and leap about like fiery fiends upon black blood.

Este era el aspecto de la Forma del Destino llamado el Destructor, cuando apareció en los días hace tiempo pasados, en los tiempos antiguos. The moisture inside the land is all dried up, the pastures and cultivated places are consumed in flames and they and all trees become white ashes. The Doomshape is like a circling ball of flame which scatters small fiery offspring in its train. It covers about a fifth part of the sky and sends writhing snakelike fingers down to Earth. Before it the sky appears frightened, and it breaks up and scatters away. Midday is no brighter than night. It spawns a host of terrible things.

These are things said of The Destroyer in the old records, read them with a solemn heart, knowing that the Doomshape has its appointed time and will return. It would be foolish to let them go unheeded. Now men say, “Such things are not destined for our days”. May the Great God above grant that this be so. But come, the day surely will, and in accordance with his nature man will be unprepared.

Estas cosas se dicen del Destructor en los registros antiguos, leedlos con un corazón serio, sabiendo que la Forma del Destino tiene su tiempo señalado y volverá. THE DARK DAYS / LOS DÍAS OSCUROS

The dark days began with the last visitation of The Destroyer and they were foretold by strange omens in the skies. All men were silent and went about with pale faces.

The leaders of the slaves which had built a city to the glory of Thom stirred up unrest, and no man raised his arm against them. They foretold great events of which the people were ignorant and of which the temple seers were not informed.

These were days of ominous calm, when the people waited for they knew not what.

The presence of an unseen doom was felt, the hearts of men were stricken.

Laughter was heard no more and grief and wailing sounded throughout the land. Even the voices of children were stilled and they did not play together, but stood silent.

The slaves became bold and insolent and women were the possession of any man. Fear walked the land and women became barren with terror, they could not conceive, and those with child aborted. All men closed up within themselves.

The days of stillness were followed by a time when the noise of trumpeting and shrilling was heard in the Heavens, and the people became as frightened beasts without a herdsman, as asses when lions prowl without their fold.

The people spoke of the God of the slaves, and reckless men said. “If we knew where this God were to be found, we would sacrifice to him”. But the God of the slaves was not among them. He was not to be found within the swamplands or in the brickpits. His manifestation was in the Heavens for all men to see, but they did not see with understanding. Nor would any God listen, for all were dumb because of the hypocrisy of men.

La gente hablaba del Dios de los esclavos y los hombres imprudentes dijeron: “Si supiéramos dónde se puede encontrar ese Dios, le haríamos sacrificios”. The dead were no longer sacred and were thrown into the waters. Those already entombed were neglected and many became exposed. They lay unprotected against the hands of thieves. He who once toiled long in the sun, bearing the yoke himself, now possessed oxen. He who grew no grain now owned a storehouse full. He who once dwelt at ease among his children now thirsted for water. He who once sat in the sun with crumbs and dregs was now bloated with food, he reclined in the shade, his bowls overflowing.

La muerte ya no era sagrada y era arrojada dentro del agua. Los enterrados previamente fueron abandonados y muchos quedaron al descubierto. Estaban sin protección contra las manos de los ladrones. El que antes trabajaba mucho tiempo al sol, arrastrando la yunta él mismo ahora poseía bueyes. El que no cultivaba ni un grano ahora tenía un almacén lleno. Cattle were left unattended to roam into strange pastures, and men ignored their marks and slew the beasts of their neighbours. No man owned anything.

El ganado se había dejado sin atención vagar por los prados ajenos y los hombres ignoraban sus lindes y mataba los animales de sus vecinos. Nadie era propietario de nada.

The public records were cast forth and destroyed, and no man knew who were slaves and who were masters. The people cried out to the Pharaoh in their distress, but he stopped his ears and acted like a deaf man.

Los registros públicos se habían desechado y destruido, y nadie sabía quién era esclavo y quién era el amo. El pueblo suplicaba al Faraón en su miseria, pero él se no oía y se hacía el sordo.

There were those who spoke falsely before Pharaoh and had Gods hostile towards the land, therefore the people cried out for their blood to appease it. But it was not these strange priests who put strife in the land instead of peace, for one was even of the household of Pharaoh and walked among the people unhampered.

Había algunos que hablaron falsamente ante el Faraón y tenían Dioses hostiles hacia la tierra, por lo que el pueblo pedía su sangre para apaciguarlos. Dust and smoke clouds darkened the sky and coloured the waters upon which they fell with a bloody hue. Plague was throughout the land, the river was bloody and blood was everywhere. The water was vile and men’s stomachs shrank from drinking. Those who did drink from the river vomited it up, for it was polluted.

Las nubes de humo y polvo oscurecían el cielo y coloreaban las aguas en las que caían de un color sanguinolento. La plaga se extendía por toda la tierra, el río era color de sangre y la sangre estaba por todas partes. El agua era asquerosa y el estómago de los hombres se contraía al beber. Los que bebían del río vomitaban, porque estaba contaminado.

The dust tore wounds in the skin of man and beast. In the glow of The Destroyer the Earth was filled with redness. Vermin bred and filled the air and face of the Earth with loathsomeness. Wild beasts, afflicted with torments under the lashing sand and ashes, came out of their lairs in the wastelands and caveplaces and stalked the abodes of men. All the tame beasts whimpered and the land was filled with the cries of sheep and moans of cattle.

El polvo levantaba heridas en la piel del hombre y los animales. El el brillo del Destructor la Tierra estaba llena de rojez. Los bichos se reproducían y llenaban el aire y la superficie de la Tierra con cosas nauseabundas. Los animales salvajes, afligidos con las molestias bajo la arena azotante y los burros, salieron de sus guaridas en el desierto y de sus cuevas y asaltaron las moradas de los hombres. Trees, throughout the land, were destroyed and no herb or fruit was to be found. The face of the land was battered and devastated by a hail of stones which smashed down all that stood in the path of the torrent. They swept down in hot showers, and strange flowing fire ran along the ground in their wake.

Los árboles, a través de la tierra, fueron destruidos y ni hierba ni fruto se podía encontrar. La faz de la tierra estaba ajada y devastada por la granizada de piedras que tiraba todo lo que se erguía en el camino de la corriente. Caían en un ardiente aguacero, y, como consecuencia, una extraña corriente de fuego avanzaba a lo largo del suelo.

The fish of the river died in the polluted waters; worms, insects and reptiles sprang up from the Earth in huge numbers. Great gusts of wind brought swarms of locusts which covered the sky. As the Destroyer flung itself through the Heavens, it blew great gusts of cinders across the face of the land. The gloom of a long night spread a dark mantle of blackness which extinguished every ray of light. None knew when it was day and when it was night, for the sun cast no shadow.

Los peces del río murieron en las aguas contaminadas; gusanos, insectos y reptiles surgieron de la Tierra en gran cantidad. Una gran ráfaga de viento trajo un enjambre de langostas que cubrieron el cielo. Como el Destructor tiraba él mismo desde de los Cielos, soplaban grandes ráfagas de cenizas a través de la faz de la tierra. The darkness was not the clean blackness of night, but a thick darkness in which the breath of men was stopped in their throats. Men gasped in a hot cloud of vapour which enveloped all the land and snuffed out all lamps and fires. Men were benumbed and lay moaning in their beds. None spoke to another or took food, for they were overwhelmed with despair. Ships were sucked away from their moorings and destroyed in great whirlpools. It was a time of undoing.

La oscuridad no era la limpia negrura de la noche, sino una espesa oscuridad en la que el aliento de los hombres se paraba en sus gargantas. Los hombres boqueaban en una ardiente nube de vapor que envolvía toda la tierra y extinguía todas las lámparas y los fuegos. Los hombres estaban entumecidos y yacían gimiendo en sus lechos. The Earth turned over, as clay spun upon a potter’s wheel. The whole land was filled with uproar from the thunder of The Destroyer overhead and the cry of the people. There as the sound of moaning and lamentation on every side. The Earth spewed up its dead, corpses were cast up out of their resting places and the embalmed were revealed to the sight of all men. Pregnant women miscarried and the seed of men was stopped.

La Tierra se volteó de un lado a otro, como la arcilla gira sobre el torno del alfarero. En todas partes se oía el sonido de quejidos y lamentaciones. La Tierra vomitaba sus muertos, los cadáveres aparecían fuera de sus lugares de reposo y los embalsamados estaban a la vista de todos los hombres. Las mujeres embarazadas abortaban y la semilla de los hombres se interrumpió

The craftsman left his task undone, the potter abandoned his wheel and the carpenter his tools, and they departed to dwell in the marshes. All crafts were neglected and the slaves lured the craftsmen away.

El artesano dejó su trabajo sin hacer, el alfarero abandonó su torno y el carpintero sus herramientas y marcharon a vivir a los pantanos. Todas las barcas fueron abandonadas y las esclavos atraían a los artesanos lejos.

The dues of Pharaoh could not be collected, for there was neither wheat nor barley, goose nor fish. The rights of Pharaoh could not be enforced, for the fields of grain and the pastures were destroyed. The highborn and the lowly prayed together that life might come to an end and the turmoil and thundering cease to beat upon their ears. Terror was the companion of men by day and horror their companion by night. Men lost their senses and became mad, they were distracted by frightfulness.

Los derechos del Faraón no podrían ser recaudados, porque no había ni trigo ni cebada, ni aves de corral ni pescado. Los derechos del Faraón no podrían ser ejecutados, porque los campos de trigo y los pastos estaban destruidos. On the great night of The Destroyer’s wrath, when its terror was at its height, there was a hail of rocks and the Earth heaved as pain rent her bowels. Gates, columns and walls were consumed by fire and the statues of Gods were overthrown and broken. People fled outside their dwellings in fear and were slain by the hail. Those who took shelter from the hail were swallowed when the Earth split open.

En la larga noche de la cólera del Destructor, cuando su terror estaba en su cúspide, hubo un granizo de rocas y la Tierra palpitó como si un dolor arañara sus entrañas. Puertas, columnas y muros fueron consumidos por el fuego y las estatuas de los Dioses cayeron y se rompieron. La gente salió de sus casas por el pánico y fueron muertos por el granizo. The habitations of men collapsed upon those inside and there was panic on every hand, but the slaves who lived in huts in the reedlands, at the place of pits, were spared. The land burnt like tinder, a man watched upon his rooftops and the Heavens hurled wrath upon him and he died.

Las casas de los hombres colapsaron en el interior de ésta y había pánico en cada mano, pero los esclavos que vivían en cabañas en las tierras de juncos, junto al lugar de las canteras, se salvaron. La tierra ardió como yesca, un hombre miraba sobre su tejado y los Cielos dispararon su ira sobre él y murió.

The land writhed under the wrath of The Destroyer and groaned with the agony of Egypt. It shook itself and the temples and palaces of the nobles were thrown down from their foundations. The highborn ones perished in the midst of the ruins and all the strength of the land was stricken. Even the great one, the first born of Pharaoh, died with the highborn in the midst of the terror and falling stones. The children of princes were cast out into the streets and those who were not cast out died within their abodes.

La tierra se retorcía bajo la ira del Destructor y gemía con la agonía de Egipto. Se agitaba ella misma y los templos y palacios de los nobles cayeron desde sus cimientos. Algunos de noble cuna perecieron en medio de las ruinas y todos los valientes de la tierra fueron heridos. There were nine days of darkness and upheaval, while a tempest raged such as never had been known before. When it passed away brother buried brother throughout the land. Men rose up against those in authority and fled from the cities to dwell in tents in the outlands.

Hubo nueve días de oscuridad y sacudidas, mientras una tempestad bramaba tal como no se había conocido antes. Cuando todo acabó el hermano luchaba contra el hermano por cuestiones de tierra. Egypt lacked great men to deal with the times. The people were weak from fear and bestowed gold, silver, lapis lazuli, turquoise and copper upon the slaves, and to their priests they gave chalices, urns and ornaments. Pharaoh alone remained calm and strong in the midst of confusion. The people turned to wickedness in their weakness and despair. Harlots walked through the streets unashamed. Women paraded their limbs and flaunted their womanly charms. Highborn women were in rags and the virtuous were mocked.

Egipto carecía de grandes hombres para tratar con estos tiempos. El pueblo estaba debilitado por el miedo y entregaban oro, plata, lapislázuli, turquesas y cobre a los esclavos y a sus sacerdotes les daban cálices, urnas y ornamentos. Sólo el Faraón permanecía tranquilo y fuerte en medio de la confusión. La gente se entregó a la maldad en su debilidad y desesperación. Las prostitutas paseaban por las calles sin vergüenza. Las mujeres enseñaban sus miembros y presumían de sus encantos femeninos. Las mujeres nobles iban con harapos y las virtuosas eran motivo de burla

The slaves spared by The Destroyer left the accursed land forthwith. Their multitude moved in the gloom of a half dawn, under a mantle of fine swirling grey ash, leaving the burnt fields and shattered cities behind them. Many Egyptians attached themselves to the host, for one who was great led them forth, a priest prince of the inner courtyard.

Fire mounted up on high and its burning left with the enemies of Egypt. It rose up from the ground as a fountain and hung as a curtain in the sky. In seven days, by Remwar the accursed ones journeyed to the waters. They crossed the heaving wilderness while the hills melted around them; above, the skies were torn with lightning. They were sped by terror, but their feet became entangled in the land and the wilderness shut them in. They knew not the way, for no sign was constant before them.

El fuego subió a lo más alto y sus ardor permaneció con los enemigos de Egipto. Subió desde el suelo como una fuente y puso como una cortina en el cielo. Durante siete días, por Remwar los malditos viajaron hasta el agua. Cruzaron el ardiente desierto mientras los cerros temblaban a su alrededor; arriba, los cielos habían cambiado con claridad. They turned before Noshari and stopped at Shokoth, the place of quarries. They passed the waters of Maha and came by the valley of Pikaroth, northward of Mara. They came up against the waters which blocked their way and their hearts were in despair. The night was a night of fear and dread, for there was a high moaning above and black winds from the underworld were loosed, and fire sprang up from the ground. The hearts of the slaves shrank within them, for they knew the wrath of Pharaoh followed them and that there was no way of escape. They hurled abuse on those who led them, strange rites were performed along the shore that night. The slaves disputed among themselves and there was violence.

Volvieron ante Noshari y pararon en Shokoth, el lugar de las minas. Pasaron las aguas de Maha y llegaron por el valle de Pikaroth, hacia el norte de Mara. Pharaoh had gathered his army and followed the slaves. After he departed there were riots and disorders behind him, for the cities were plundered. The laws were cast out of the judgment halls and trampled underfoot in the streets. The storehouses and granaries were burst open and robbed. Roads were flooded and none could pass along them. People lay dead on every side. The palace was split and the princes and officials fled, so that none was left with authority to command. The lists of numbers were destroyed, public places were overthrown and households became confused and unknown.

El Faraón reunió su ejército y persiguió a los esclavos. Después de su partida hubo disturbios y desórdenes detrás de él, porque las ciudades estaban destruidas. Las leyes se sacaron de las salas de juicio y se pisotearon en las calles. Los almacenes y los graneros fueron abiertos a la fuerza y saqueados. Pharaoh pressed on in sorrow, for behind him all was desolation and death. Before him were things he could not understand and he was afraid, but he carried himself well and stood before his host with courage. He sought to bring back the slaves, for the people said their magic was greater than the magic of Egypt.

El Faraón fue presa del sufrimiento, porque detrás de él todo era desolación y muerte. Ante él había cosas que no podía entender y estaba asustado, pero se sobrepuso y se mantuvo fuerte ante su ejército con coraje. Él intentaba hacer volver a los esclavos, porque la gente decía que sus magos eran mejores que los magos de Egipto.

The host of Pharaoh came upon the slaves by the saltwater shores, but was held back from them by a breath of fire. A great cloud was spread over the hosts and darkened the sky. None could see, except for the fiery glow and the unceasing lightnings which rent the covering cloud overhead.

El ejército del Faraón cayó sobre los esclavos por las playas de agua salada, pero tuvo que retroceder por una exhalación de fuego. Una enorme nube se había extendido sobre las tropas y había oscurecido el cielo. No se podía ver nada, excepto el ardiente brillo y la creciente claridad que rasgaba la envolvente nube sobre las cabezas.

A whirlwind arose in the East and swept over the encamped hosts. A gale raged all night and in the red twilit dawn there was a movement of the Earth, the waters receded from the seashore and were rolled back on themselves. There was a strange silence and men, in the gloom, it was seen that the waters had parted, leaving a passage between. The land had risen, but it was disturbed and trembled, the way was not straight or clear. The waters about were as if spun within a bowl, the swampland alone remained undisturbed. From the horn of The Destroyer came a high shrilling noise which stopped the ears of men.

Una turbulencia de aire se levantó en el Este y cayó sobre los ejércitos acampados. Un vendaval sopló toda la noche y en la roja claridad crepuscular hubo un movimiento de Tierra, las aguas retrocedieron desde las playas y se enrollaron hacia atrás sobre sí mismas. Del cuerno del Destructor llegó el más penetrante sonido que obstruyó los oídos de los hombres.

The slaves had been making sacrifices in despair, their lamentations were loud. Now, before the strange sight, there was hesitation and doubt; for the space of a breath they stood still and silent. Then all was confusion and shouting, some pressing forward into the waters against all who sought to flee back from the unstable ground. Then, in exaltation, their leader led them into the midst of the waters through the confusion. Yet many sought to turn back into the host behind them, while others fled along the empty shores.

Los esclavos habían estado haciendo sacrificios con desesperación, sus lamentaciones eran estrepitosas. Ahora, ante la extraña visión, había vacilación y duda. All became still over the sea and upon the shore, but behind, the Earth shook and boulders split with a great noise. The wrath of Heaven was removed to a distance and stood upwards of the two hosts.

Todo se tranquilizó sobre el mar y en la playa, pero detrás, la Tierra se movió y las piedras se rompieron con un gran estruendo. La ira del Cielo se trasladó a cierta distancia y permaneció sobre los dos ejércitos.

Still the host of Pharaoh held its ranks, firm in resolve before the strange and awful happenings, and undaunted by the fury which raged by their side. Stern faces were lit darkly by the fiery curtain.

Then the fury departed and there was silence, stillness spread over the land while the host of Pharaoh stood without movement in the red glow. Then, with a shout, the captains went forward and the host rose up behind them. The curtain of fire had rolled up into a dark billowing cloud which spread out as a canopy. There was a stirring of the waters, but they followed the evildoers past the place of the great whirlpool.

Entonces la furia desapareció y se hizo el silencio, la tranquilidad se extendió sobre la tierra mientras el ejército del Faraón permanecía sin movimiento en el rojo resplandor. Entonces, con un grito, los capitanes fueron hacia adelante y el ejército se lanzó detrás. La cortina de fuego se había enrollado hacia arriba en una oscura nube ondulante que desplegó como un dosel. The passage was confused in the midst of the waters and the ground beneath unstable. Here, in the midst of a tumult of waters, Pharaoh fought against the hindmost of the slaves and prevailed over them, and there was a great slaughter amid the sand, the swamp and the water. The slaves cried out in despair, but their cries were unheeded. Their possessions were scattered behind them as they fled, so that the way was easier for them than for those who followed.

El paso era confuso en medio de las aguas y el suelo de abajo inestable. Aquí, en medio del tumulto de las aguas, el Faraón luchó contra la retaguardia de los esclavos y los venció y hubo una enorme matanza entre la arena, el pantano y el agua. Los esclavos gritaban de desesperación, pero sus gritos no eran atendidos. Then the stillness was broken by a mighty roar and through the rolling pillars of cloud the wrath of The Destroyer descended upon the hosts. The Heavens roared as with a thousand thunders, the bowels of the Earth were sundered and Earth shrieked its agony. The cliffs were torn away and cast down. The dry ground fell beneath the waters and great waves broke upon the shore, sweeping in rocks from seaward.

Entonces la tranquilidad se rompió por un enorme rugido y a través de los pilares enrollados de la nube la ira del Destructor descendió sobre los ejércitos. Los Cielos resonaron como con mil truenos, las entrañas de la Tierra se separaron y la Tierra chillaba su agonía. Los acantilados giraron en su lugar y se derrumbaron. La tierra seca cayó bajo el agua y grandes olas rompieron contra la playa, rozando en las rocas desde la parte del mar.

The great surge of rocks and waters overwhelmed the chariots of the Egyptians who went before the footmen. The chariot of the Pharaoh was hurled into the air as if by a mighty hand and was crushed in the midst of the rolling waters.

La gran oleada de rocas y agua arroyó las carros de los Egipcios que iban delante de los hombres a pie. El carro del Faraón fue levantado en el aire como por una enorme mano y se estrelló en medio de las arremolinadas aguas.

Tidings of the disaster came back by Rageb, son of Thomat, who hastened on ahead of the terrified survivors because of his burning. He brought reports unto the people that the host had been destroyed by blast and deluge. The captains had gone, the strong men had fallen and none remained to command. Therefore, the people revolted because of the calamities which had befallen them. Cowards slunk from their lairs and came forth boldly to assume the high offices of the dead. Comely and noble women, their protectors gone, were their prey. Of the slaves the greater number had perished before the host of Pharaoh.

Las noticias del desastre llegó por Rageb, hijo de Thomat, que se adelantó a la cabeza de los aterrorizados supervivientes a causa de sus quemaduras. Él trajo noticias al pueblo de que el ejército había sido destruido por sacudidas y la inundacion. Los capitanes habían muerto, los hombres fuertes habían caído y no quedaba nadie para mandar. The broken land lay helpless and invaders came out of the gloom like carrion. A strange people came up against Egypt and none stood to fight, for strength and courage were gone.

La tierra agrietada permaneció sin auxilio y los invasores llegaron de la oscuridad como la carroña. Un pueblo extranjero vino contra Egipto y nadie se levantó a luchar, porque la fuerza y el coraje se habían perdido.

The invaders, led by Alkenan, came up out of the Land of Gods, because of the wrath of Heaven which had laid their land waste. There, too, had been a plague of reptiles and ants, signs and omens and an earthquake. There, also, had been turmoil and disaster, disorder and famine, with the grey breath of The Destroyer sweeping the ground and stopping the breath of men.

Los invasores, liderdos por Alkenan, llegaron de la Tierra de los Dioses, a causa de la ira de los Cielos que había dejado su tierra estéril. Allí, también había habido una plaga de reptiles y hormigas, signos y presagios y un terremoto. Anturah gathered together the remnants of his fighting men and the fighting men who were left in Egypt, and set forth to meet the Children of Darkness who came out of the eastern mountains by way of the wilderness and by way of Yethnobis. They fell upon the stricken land from behind the grey cloud, before the lifting of the darkness and before the coming of the purifying winds.

Anturah reunió juntos el remanente de sus guerreros y los guerreros que habían quedado en Egipto, y salió al encuentro de los Hijos de la Oscuridad que vinieron desde las montañas del Este por el camino del desierto y por el camino de Yethnobis. Cayeron sobre la golpeada tierra desde detrás de la nube gris, antes del levantamiento de la oscuridad y antes de la llegada de los purificantes vientos.

Rageb went with Pharaoh and met the invaders at Herosher, but the hearts of the Egyptians were faint within them. Their spirits were no longer strong and they fell away before the battle was lost. Deserted by the Gods above and below, their dwellings destroyed, their households scattered, they were as men already half dead. Their hearts were still filled with terror and with the memory of the wrath which had struck them from out of Heaven. They were still filled with the memory of the fearsome sight of The Destroyer and they knew not what they did.

Rageb fue con el Faraón y encontró a los invasores en Herosher, pero los corazones de los Egipcios estaban débiles en su interior. Sus espíritus ya no eran fuertes y se retiraron lejos antes de que la batalla acabara. Despreciados por los Dioses arriba y abajo, sus viviendas destruidas, sus familias dispersadas, eran como hombres ya medio muertos. Sus corazones todavía estaban llenos de terror y con la memoria de la ira que les había golpeado desde los Cielos. Estaban todavía llenos con la memoria de los temerosos signos del Destructor y no sabían lo que hacían.

Pharaoh did not return to his city. He lost his heritage and was seized by a demon for many days. His women were polluted and his estates plundered. The Children of Darkness defiled the temples with rams and ravished women who were crazed and did not resist. They enslaved all who were left, the old, young men and boys. They oppressed the people and their delight was in mutilation and torture.

El Faraón no volvió a su ciudad. Renunció a su herencia y fue poseído por un demonio durante muchos días. Sus mujeres estaban infectadas y sus estados saqueados. Los Hijos de la Oscuridad profanaron los templos con carneros y raptaron a las mujeres que estaban locas y no se resistían. Esclavizaron a todos los que habían quedado, los viejo,jóvenes y niños. Oprimieron al pueblo su delicia era la mutilación y la tortura.

Pharaoh abandoned his hopes and fled into the wilderness beyond the province of the lake, which is in the West towards the South. He lived a goodly life among the sand wanderers and wrote books.

El Faraón abandonó sus esperanzas y huyó al desierto más allá de la provincia del lago, que está en el Oeste hacia el Sur. Vivió una venturosa vida entre las errantes arenas y escribió libros.

Good times came again, even under the invaders, and ships sailed upstream. The air was purified, the breath of The Destroyer passed away and the land became filled again with growing things. Life was renewed throughout the whole land.

Kair taught these things to the Children of Light in the days of darkness, after the building of the Rambudeth, before the death of the Pharaoh Anked.

Llegaron buenos tiempos de nuevo, incluso bajo los invasores, y los barcos navegaron río arriba. El aire se purificó, el aliento del Destructor quedó lejos y la tierra se lleno otra vez de cosas que brotaban. La vida se renovó a través de toda la tierra.
